  1. Hi! Friends, who has repaired his "S2-P" with serious problems in the service in Germany ? Tell me, what was the price of repair? As far as I know my problem can not be solved by multiple battery charging or leaving the camera without battery for many days. My problem is 99% on the motherboard, which will most likely be replaced completely at the service. I have asked Leica several times this question of the approximate cost to replace the motherboard, but they won't tell me an approximate price. It's hard for me to send them the camera now, but I might be able to do so if I know the approximate cost of the most expensive camera repair (replacing the entire motherboard). Do you think it will be more than 1000 euros, right? If it's more expensive, I might be better off selling the camera for parts. PS The camera stopped working completely, two screens and all controls are completely disabled. However, the shutter button, exposure metering in the viewfinder and even autofocus works, but it doesn't record photos to the memory card. A warning signal flashes in the lower left corner of the viewfinder. The battery trick doesn't help, also attaching the grip (battery pack) doesn't help. Other memory cards, batteries, lenses do not help. The camera has not been exposed to rain. Careful use. A familiar repairman says that there is probably no voltage on the motherboard, that Leica will probably replace the entire motherboard. Thank you all for any possible answers.
  2. Hello from Japan. I bought a used Leica M7 because it was a great price with two lenses. I love the features and proportions of the M7. Most of all, I love the fact that the camera was born in 2002 (I have a personal attachment to 2002). Of course, there is the issue of the repairability of the electronic shutter. Now, my Leica M7 that I bought is a bit scratched up. It's used, and it's an early model of the M7. But since it is my first Leica and I plan to travel with it until it is beyond repair, I want to freshen it up and make it beautiful. Initially, I was looking for a repainter, but I couldn't find one who repainted the M7, at least not in Japan. In the course of my research, I found out that Leica offers Redesign Options, and on Reddit I found a guy who had replaced the top cover of his M7. Is it possible to revive the Leica M7 with Leica's Redesign Options? Also, has anyone done that? I would like to do an overhaul on my Leica and replace the exterior parts at the same time. There is not much information about that. If the replacement of the exterior is not possible, I would like to engrave the print on the top cover. Thanks in advance. P.S. I heard that Leica Japan is a bit unresponsive on that front, so I'm asking here.
  3. I have noticed in the two more recent outings with my M240 that i have a lot of dust on my sensor. The attached image is from the most recent outing to see the airshow. The circles are the spot removal I had to do to fix all the dust. As you can see it is substantial. Note that I was stopped down to F22 on a 90mm lens to get the depth needed for the air crafts and people to be in focus. So the dust was more apparent in the image. I have cleaned the sensor with the blower multiple times. I have cleaned the sensor with swab and solution once between the outings. I switch lenses often enough for dust to get in, I expect it to happen. My problem is that after cleaning the sensor so thoroughly I should not have this much dust. It appears that using the blower provides minimal help and the swab basically nothing. Has anyone experienced such persistent dust? Could this be some sort of corrosion on the sensor? I am debating sending it in for a repair and service to fix the issue. Has anyone used this service before and has an idea of cost, procedure, and effectiveness in getting a clean sensor back?
  4. Hi all, I am still quite new to repairing cameras and lenses but so far I have a pretty good track record for fixing them. I have mainly repaired Canon rangefinders and some Canon SLRs. I recently picked up a R4 which has the problem of a possible jammed shutter. Basically the shutter does not fire when the shutter button is depressed. I have checked both magnets under the battery compartment and could not see any dirt that was causing a weak connection. I have also compared the cams and gears to a Minolta XD11/7 as I have read on this forum that they have the same internals. I have only worked with cloth shutters in SLRs and not the later bladed shutter curtains. To me this looks like it might be jammed but I am not 100% sure as an image of the shutter in the Minolta service manual looks similar, unfortunately this detail in the scanned document is to contrasty to tell. I am also wondering if there is a way to trip the shutter without using the shutter button? If you could help me out I would be very grateful! Many Thanks, Jack
  5. My Tele Elmarit M 90 shows these marks when inspecting under a certain angle. It looks like dried water behind the front-element of the lens. It does not show in photos but still it concerns me. Is this serviceable? Have you ever seen something like this?
  6. Hi there. Today while taking photos with my MP I realized some kind of liquid had dropped on the back of my camera. It had been dried before I noticed it. As a reflex I immediately clean the thing but the same stuff had also snuck on to the light seal cloth that covers the parameters of the back door. How can I clean the residue on the light seal? Or should I bother? I am afraid of the possibility of the strange liquid damaging the light seal.
  7. Hello Friends, I recently noticed that my M4 has a slight delay while I am focusing from infinity to 0.8. The patch would not align, it's quick but i can tell there like a millisecond lag. I found out that the rangefinder roller is a little stiff when a push it back. Is this something i can fix myself or do i need an expert to CLA my camera? I bought it 6 months ago. No idea when it was last CLA'd but it is in excellent condition. Thank you in advanced!!!
  8. Bought a new (used) M9 to replace my old one that packed it in, and it came with a scratch on the red dot, so I removed it to try and repaint it... then I turned to fire to help remove the old paint and ended up preferring the raw tempered look, so think I will stick with it for now! What you think... seen anyone do this before?! I'm sure it will divide opinions!
  9. Hi, Can anyone recommend a good place to service my leica in malboune. preferably in the CBD area
  10. I just sent my 75mm Summarit lens to Youxin Ye for repair of a loose element. Literally, within a week he made the repair and shipped the lens back to me. Cost was very reasonable. Given the problem and wait times I have read about other services, I highly recommend Youxin. Cameras take longer than lenses, and I can't say that everyone will experience such rapid service. But I do recommend that you contact him if you need some work done. Youxin Ye 16 Fairview Road Canton, MA 02021 (781) 830-9141 www.yyecamera.com wye7@yahoo.com
  11. So, in May, 2017 I sent my ME to Leica NJ for repair of the corroded sensor. You'll recall, this was well before Leica announced the August 15 deadline for free repairs. After the announcement, I sent my M9M to Wetzlar through Leica Store Miami. At this point, I was willing to place money that the M9M would arrive from Wetzlar before the ME arrived from NJ. Although I was very bummed about not having either of my Leicas I was mostly OK because I still had my trusty M8. I've used the M8 since then without issue until last week. Several of us caravanned down to Key West on a relief mission after Hurricane Irma. I took my M8 along with me for once-in-a-lifetime shots. Well, you can probably guess what happened. I suffered a catastrophic shutter failure at the worst possible time. No photos of the trip. None. Nada. Zero. Zilch. . . . sigh. This also presented another issue. Now I was left without any travel camera. So, yesterday I bought the Canon 40mm f/2.8 pancake lens for my 6D. Today, I mounted the lens, took some test shots and deemed it acceptable. So, I removed the vertical battery grip and the handstrap that I use along with it. This last part is a major issue as it is cumbersome to attach and to detach. Well, you can guess what happened now. Fifteen minutes later (yes, 15!) UPS arrives with my ME. Yup. All I had to do to get the fates to deliver the ME was buy the Canon 40mm! Anyway, I've tested the camera and there does not appear to be any evidence of corrosion. Still, the receipt is very cryptic. How can I be sure that the sensor has actually been properly upgraded? It does bear firmware number 1.210. Does this indicate the proper upgrade? Thanks in advance. RV
  12. I have had to send my M9 back to Leica Germany for repair as it simply stopped working with a ‘shutter error’ problem. The problem was a label from an SD card stuck between sensor and shutter! I knew I had a card which had somehow lost its label, but had no idea where or how. To repair the problem, carry out a full service and replace the sensor as a ‘good will gesture’ totals a surprising and (in my opinion very low) 178.50€ ($213) which I think is superb service. The cost includes postage both ways. Now the bad news, the repair could take ‘several weeks’. Thank goodness I am not shooting much at the moment, and I have my M7 to use. I am sort of aa happy bunny because of the price, but miss my M9. Gerry
  13. Hello, Exactly a week ago, I sent my Leica Q in for repair. I've called a few times looking for updates without any success. I've left a voicemail for customer care to call back without any response. Today, I called again and the lady who I spoke to told me that repairs usually take 4-6 weeks and that my camera is in "repair status". She couldn't give me any other details about what have done if anything. Is there anyone here familiar with Leica's customer care? Should I keep calling every week to check on status? Hope and pray that my camera will magically show up on my front door one day? I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you!
  14. Hi all! This is my very first post in here and i'm sorry this is pretty annoying for you. Lately, i'm experiencing the same problem as described in this thread: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/223557-help-again-sensor.html So, i'm going to send my M9 back to Solms. I have a question for all of you who, sadly, have experienced the same problem as mine: have i to send also a lens to the Leica customer care, in addition to the camera and the SD card? My question came up after reading the needed accessories on the RBS (battery, battery charger, SD card, lenses resp. camera). Thank you in advance. Enzo
  15. Hi All Not long ago I finally took my Digilux 2 to a Leica store for inspection and repair. I have always suspected the reason why I got dead black screen and couldn't power on was the image sensor (or whatever reason that everyone else had). The shop examined it and reported that they couldn't fix it because Leica no longer produced the parts for Digilux 2. I know it's my fault to have waited this long to try fixing it, but I've always thought Leica would value its machines well enough to at least keep the capability of repairing them. I don't know what to do now. The shop I brought it in was a legit distributor in Taipei. They claimed they have called Germany headquarters and no luck with spare parts. Should I try Leica Germany again? Or Leica US? Or is there any third party Leica-specialist repair shop I can go to? Perhaps use the parts from the Panasonic counterpart of Digilux 2? Sorry for the rambling. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks. HC
  16. My Trusty little Leitz 40mm f/2 was suffering from aging grease, Canada Balsam and the internal black paint had begun to become detached also so a repair was needed I also wanted to add a modern focus tap. Since the lens is so cheap I decided to try it out myself. I have a lot of knowledge about AF and MF Nikkor, Cannon Olympus and Vooigtlanders SLR and Leica mount lenses, most parts of the design and build is same same :-) but this tiny Leica has some differences as to how it's put together, first I was very disappointed to find that the front threads part series 5.5 threads is glued to the aperture housing, next I found that the rings that 'normally' have two holes or ridges for lens spanners for tightening the old Leitz lens had one or even none, so had to be taken apart with friction, a rubber tube of the right thickness must be used to reach into some parts of the lens to get it apart, I modified these rings, drilling two holes makes the hole deal a lot easier. Got it all dismantled and sorted out, the two elements with the Canada Balsam issue got a 'cooking' treatment in boiling water to separate the two halves. A drop of Araldite Krystal and the two are inseparable, a coat of mat black paint to finish the job off. Putting everything back together without leaving dust or prints is the worst part... The old gease was cleaned off and the many threaded focus threads lubed with new grease and put back together as marked by disassembly. The new focus tap needed a slight trim to clear the mounting ring and two extra location holes to keep it in alignment a single screw holds it in place. Everything fits within very tight tolerances; position of glass elements, focus threads so it was a joy to work on it. All the parts, note extra holes, the two glass element front center Extra holes for focus tap in focus mount. Focusmount with focus tap. 24 hours wait for the Epoxy to cure and testing today went very well, focus at infinity and all the way to 0.7m is spot on. Lens is now in good service condition and much closer to my heart
  17. I have a 5 year old summilux 35 which has developed a bit of wobble (I think in the aperture ring). Anyone know what the cause might be and how difficult it is to fix. Can I take it to a non Leica technician (because of the inconvenience)? Is it a problem to continue shooting with it Thanks Larry
  18. This may be ofensive to some, but I repaired my own M2. The upper felt seal on the light shield came loose, and jammed the second curtain. A common fault, which was obvious, just looking in the back. I got a couple of estimates for repair/CLA, but €300-500 seemed a poor investment for a beat up body which I'd paid €250 for, and use much less than the M8. Didn't do a 4 1/2 year mechnical apprenticeship for nothing, so I made my own ring spanners with the lathe and some filing, and and fixed it myself. While I was in there I also cleaned the exposed surfaces of the rangfinder and frame line mirror, and the rangefinder is much brighter and frame lines crisper than before. The cement on the light baffle infront of the frame line mirror had released, so I recemented it. The little spring on the frmae line selector mechanism was deformed (it fell out - I didn't damage it removing the body shell). Reformed the hook on that spring and reinstalled it. There was an ugly bulge in the top plate, so I smoothed that out also. For instructions, the Leica Notes PDF, and the 1950's US Army M2 repair manual pdf's were invaluable. I didn't diassemble further than removing the light shield, but nothing visible displayed any obvious wear. The camera is back in service, no light leaks, much clearer, better adjusted, rangefinder, working better than before.
  19. I first noticed that something was terrible wrong when 2/3 of my pictures turned up black. Fortunately I check the images frequently while shooting. To my shock I discovered what you see on this picture. What had happened? I have sent the camera and the two lenses that I were using to Leica awaiting the verdict. Anyone experienced similar? Helge Pedersen
  20. Hey, be kind it is my first post here! So I have an M4-P, and succeeded in knocking the little focusing knob off of my 35mm Summicron. I need a replacement part basically - two pictures below should explain things best. Any suggestions or recommendations for the place would be great. I do not want to send my camera to them, I am looking to just get the part sent to a US address. thanks! Marco
  21. . . . Leica will continue to support the CCD sensor cameras (M8, M9, M-E, MM)? I'd love an M-E, or maybe an MM, but as someone who bought a DMR not knowing Leica was about to drop the R line altogether, I worry about how long the sensors and other electronics might be available. Has Leica made any announcement in this regard, or does anyone have any inside information? I should mention that my R9/DMR is still working marvelously, so far. I just have these insecurities. Did the monetary outlay not reflect such a significant commitment, I wouldn't worry so much. Brent
  22. My Leica M8 has a loose shutter leaf. I noticed it when all of the sudden a bright white stroke of light appeared on my photos. I made the loose shutter leaf conclusion after removing the lens and looking at the shutter. A loose shutter leaf is clearly visible. I hope I can find a solution through this community. I bought it two months ago as my first Leica. I'm missing it already.

    M9-P repair

What can I expect with the following statement? My Deutsch isn't that good, I understand most of it but if someone has more of a understanding I would be glad... especially the part about the leather?
  24. Hi folks, Wondering if anyone on here has ever experienced a physically sticky thumbwheel on the back of their M9. I bought my camera used and didn't notice it's stickiness much when I tested it out, but I feel like I notice it all the time now during real world use. The wheel spins downward with my thumb just fine, but going up it's not as smooth and sometimes stick. Then needs a little more oomph to get around. It doesn't however affect the controls on the LCD screen. I've tried cleaning out the grooves to see if there was any dust which helped a bit, but the stickiness comes back. Does anyone know if Leica lubricates this part of the camera at all? Thanks for taking the time to read this. Braniff
  25. Hello there, I have decided to start a topic on jammed shutter issue of Leica film cameras. I experienced this issue while taking photos at the Shard. My camera had been loaded with Adox CMS 20 II, the microfilm had the highest resolving power. The first fifteen frames were beautiful to enjoy the view. Yet after 16th frame, the camera was jammed. Since I tried to force its advance lever, it was totally broken. One wondering what was happened may look at the result here. I sent my camera to Wetzlar via Leica Store Mayfair. After eight weeks, it came back to London in a repaired condition under warranty. Recently, I have heard similar experiences to mine. Some of them is not related to choose Adox's films, since they have occurred while using Ilford's HP5+, and so on. In order to build a guide for one who could experience the same, may you share your experiences on jammed shutter, or advance lever stuck?
