Hello to all, I would like to request your help/advice. I currently own and use a Nikon F3, but feel the need for something new to help with street/travel photography. After doing a fair bit of research I have come up with buying either the M5 or the M6ttl. I can't actually go to a store and handle these cameras and I will be buying online, I am drawn to the M5 but the worry is I am buying something bigger than my F3 when I am looking for something less intimidating when on the street? however the shutter dial and viewfinder look like great additions. With the M5 it seems the Shutter speed in the viewfinder would also be useful and perhaps better than the LED's in the M6? Could anybody who owns an M5 post some size comparison photos to give me some idea of what it looks like next to the F3? How Do you find the M6 TTL, LED system? I will be predominantly using a 35mm and 50mm lens to start with. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated, Thanks !

I am just working through some transparency work and scanning it on to the computer. I was particularly pleased with this one which was taken in 1999 on Kodachrome 64 using a Leica M6. Scanning was with a Plustek 8200i, and post was with LT Classic. I think it is amazing how the work we have just put away into a filing cabinet etc. has stood the test of time, and before there is "ah, well it is Kodachrome" some Fuji Provia RDP is just as good.

Has Leica ever officially confirmed that M6 TTL light meter is not repairable by them? I've read mixed information in this forum and elsewhere where "some" owners have sent the camera for light meter repair and some have had it repaired and others have received a response from Leica that they can't fix it. What specifically is so unique about the M6 TTL light meter vs the M6 classic light meter that makes it so complex for repair. Obviously I'm interested in purchasing an M6 TTL in great condition - found one specifically with a 0.58x viewfinder which is very important to me since I wear glasses and shoot primarily 28mm and 35mm. I enjoy the in-camera light meter and hoping that in a few years down the line ...the M6 TTL does not turn into M4-P if the light meter malfunctions for any reason. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

I have used Leica m240 for a while, and recently have bought Leica M6 as recommended by my friend, the last time I shot a film was almost 20 years ago (it was a school event, where we had to learn how to shoot film); but since then, my photography experience is pretty much always digital. I travelled to Copenhagen last weekend, and decided to give myself a bit of challenge, so I only took my Leica M6 with couple rolls of Fuji C200; the metering and focusing are pretty much identical between M240 and M6; so it was not that hard for me to use the camera, having said that, without the ability to view the image straight-away did take me out of the comfort zone as I had no idea how the image would look like. Followings are some of the images i would like to share, those are small default scans from the film developers, so the resolution is pretty low, i'm currently exploring options of scanning those negatives using my other digital cameras. Anyway, any C&C is welcomed.

Hey Guys, I wanted to buy a used leica since months now. But I am still unsure if I should go with the M6 or the M4? The only big difference is that the M6 has a lightmeter and the M4 not. But since I work in the film industry. I wanted to buy a separate light meter anyway at some point. So is it better to go with the cheaper M4 and get also a good lens instead of spending a lot on the M6? Looking forward to your replies Best Thomas

Back in 2000 I was invited to give a guest lecture at Nasau Community College on Long Island, New York. I took a number of photographs of the students while waiting to start, and have been revisiting them now. Leica M6 + 50mm Summicron f2. Available light and handheld but have no record of the camera settings. Kodak T400CN film which I had processed locally to avoid problems with x-ray machines at the airport on the way back (those were the days!) One basic error in the photo, that is my Billingham bag in the background (oops!) Gerry

Hi everyone, I have Leica M6 classic an I use it for a year. Few days ago I inserted Kodak gold. On some of the shot (11th) I noticed that the film rewinding knob on the left almost doesn’t rotate when push the lever. As I remember when push the lever for next frame the knob on the left should rotate.I taught that the film was not properly loaded and opened the camera. I was very disappointed to know that it was rewinding good and I just have light the film I have reviewed many tutorials in the internet and all of them show that when is properly loaded the film, on first shots the knob on the left rotates a half a turn. so, I decided to insert new film and I noticed that the first shots it rotate half a turn, but next rotates, but some of them less, some more. My question is how to be sure that the film is 100% loaded properly and goes OK? I read that if the film doesn’t go the reloading lever doesn’t return, is that true? Any tips for checking to be sure?

Hi, I use my Leica M6 for almost one year. I use it mainly for street photography. Having such a beautiful solid German camera is really nice, but I can’t get used to the manual light metering.I’m not saying that I don’t know how to meter, but I’m slow. Even when I set the dept of field to be ready and use zone focusing I need from time to time to check wether the speed/aperture are set correctly. this is what I do: 1. I set the lens for some fistance , let say 3-14 m for f/8. 2. I set the speed. 3. But when I walk on the street there are shadows, bright places I should ajuste. I use mainly color film and can’t count on B&W exposure latitude. What is your style? How you do it

Ho everyone, I have Leica M6 and I love it. I never owned 35mm SLR camera, only Polaroid SX-70 which is SLR.I shot few times with SLR. A week ago I asked one friend to give me bis Nikon FE2 with 200mm lens to test it. The truth is that I don’t like the hard button and the noisy shutter, but I like the way I frame.I mean I like that I see only what is going to be in the frame and nothing else. From the results I noticed that my photos gave better composition than with the M6. I know the vast majority like the viewfinder of Leica M and the possibility to see what is going to be inside the frame and many say that this is advantage, but I’m not sure wether for me this is valid. I use 50mm Summicron, because I don’t like too much wide lenses. As I said, I like my M6 too much, I don’t want to switch to SLR. Is there any tip/trick to ignore what is outside the frame? Am I the only one who prefer to see only what is going to be inside the frame?

I have Leica M6 and live it.I use Summicron 50mm, but I realized that I’m attracted by Telephoto lens. A friend of mine gave me to try his Nikon FE2 with 200mm prime lens and I falL in love with the new possibility to catch portraits of people far from me. The. Nikon is very noisy and the lens are not what I like. I know that Leica M rangefinders are limited to 135mm lens and if somebody need more has to use visoflex, which is not an option for me. My question to all Telephoto lovers and lovers of Leica M (analog) cameras, how you satisfy your need to use Telephoto lens? For me 135mm is too short?

Paris has always been a special place for street photography for me and, although I haven't been there for far too long, I try and emulate the work of its' great photographers such as HC-B, Robert Doisneau and (dare I say) Peter Turnley. For me it is like fishing on a great trout stream in that you are always bound to have a good catch. This was taken in 2000 using my M6 and Kodak T-Max 400 film home processed. I think it was with the 50mm Summicron lens, although I can't be 100% sure. Gerry

When I was a young child my summers were spent walking the 600 or so metres from my home to the nearby river to play in its clear waters. Now close on 70 years later this image reminds me so much of those happy days. That is the power of photography. Leica M6 + 50mm Summicron f2 - Kodak T400CN film - ©1997 Gerry

Because of the covid-19 lockdown I am unable to go out on to the streets to photograph, not that there are any people around. I am therefore still working through my archives, and came across this image from Paris in 2002. Taken with a Leica M6, 50mm Summicron f2 and using Kodak T400CN film (which I used to love!). I hope you like it. I have also been revamping my web site using Adobe Portfolio, which is part of the Lightroom/Photoshop package, and like the results so far, although it is a work in progress. Take a look here Gerry

Hi everyone, I'm a new Leica user and bought an M6 Classic with a Leitz Summicron 2.0. The first roll came back blurry and I thought it was my shooting..then the second and third and so on. I sent my lens in to Keh (where I had gotten it) to be serviced and it came back with the same results. The images are generally overexposed when in very sunny conditions and all of them are very softly focused. I shot most of a roll at f16 and not one thing was in focus. I don't think it could be the lens, as it just came back from being properly adjusted so I'm wondering if it could be the body? I'm not sure what to do as I've spent my budget on this setup. I was going to send it in to get the VF upgrade because I was experiencing some flaring but that is not what is happening here. Any tips very much appreciated.
