  1. Hi there, Can anyone offer me some simplified advice for using a flash with my m4p, I have an old sunpak auto 140 flash that is non settable and is activated via the ports on the back, what I wanted to know is : how do I gauge my shutter speed and aperture for two situations 1) outdoor in good/fair light 2) indoor and is it better to use one of the ports over the other (M or X) Thanks in advance, Dan.
  2. Over the years I have been fortunate to be able to work and save some extra money to pursue my serious hobby of photography. During this time I've acquired an M2, M4 Black Chrome, M4-P and M6 TTL. All bodies are in excellent condition and used regularly on rotation. But now .....I'm lusting after an MP Black Paint since I prefer to have a meter - - It's is not a logical thought process. Why get an MP when I already have the combined functions of an MP in all my current bodies? .......and If I decide to get it I will have to sell a few bodies to fund it fully. So at the end would it be worth it going with an MP and sacrificing the older bodies for it? I know this is such an objective question - and everyone's circumstances are different and I might be going thru an episode of "GAS" but looking for opinions to keep me out of it or going thru with getting an MP .
  3. Hey Guys, I wanted to buy a used leica since months now. But I am still unsure if I should go with the M6 or the M4? The only big difference is that the M6 has a lightmeter and the M4 not. But since I work in the film industry. I wanted to buy a separate light meter anyway at some point. So is it better to go with the cheaper M4 and get also a good lens instead of spending a lot on the M6? Looking forward to your replies Best Thomas
  4. Quick question re the M4p (and subsequent M bodies) how much, if at all, are they weather sealed? I.e were they designed to be weather sealed in anyway? I’m assuming not though the build quality of my M4p is fantastic so I’d imagine light spots of rain wouldn’t be too much of an issue or am I wrong with that assumption? Cheers, Dan

  7. Hi guys, this is my first post, regarding my first Leica which I bought on Ebay. It was listed as having an issue with 1sec shutter speed being way too fast, which I didn't care much because it is a shutter speed I don't think I am going to use at all. I received the camera, really good cosmetic condition btw, and I noticed that all slow shutter speeds, below 1/30sec were off, way too fast. After googling the problem, I found that that can happen after a long time without being used, and that firing the shutter several times throughout all the shutter speed range might work. So I did it and it worked, for all shutter speeds except 1/8 and 1/30. I compared it side by side with my Canon 7 and they were the same-ish by the naked eye. And now, I have just tried something and if I fire the shutter with the camera upside down, 1/8 sounds ok, halfway between 1/15 and 1/4. And I promise I haven't been drinking or anything 🤨 So, today, I have contacted by email 4 Leica repair shops in the UK. Two of them have replied, one that they cannot do it because they don't have spare parts, and the other that I should return the camera and ask for a refund. So I went to the only Leica repair shop that I know in London, which I am not going to say its name. So, I got there, the guy took the camera, he wasn't listening to what I was saying at first, started firing the shutter and making appreciative faces saying, yes, slow speeds are ok. Until I got him to listen to what I was saying, and then he saw the problem with 1/8 and 1/30. He told me the camera would need servicing (now the finder needed service too because it wasn't a clean view..., but also that they wouldn't probably need any spare parts), which is fine, normal price for a CLA for a Leica. But he also advised I returned the camera to the seller. So I don't really know what to do. The camera has that problem, it looks in good cosmetic condition, and, whatever they say, I been after one of these cameras for like a year, and I have never seen one in this cosmetic condition for less than a grand. And I bought this one for £750. I have asked the seller if they would refund me the cost of the repair, but they haven't said yes, just have asked me to check if I want and let them know. So, what do you guys, as Leica users, think? Just a honest, and blunt if necessary, opinion. Cheers
  8. Hi everyone, I'm a new member here. A week ago I received my M4P from a german seller on ebay. The rangefinder seem suffers from a delamination/separation, and the seller claimed it was not like that before. I downloaded the seller's 'product image' and zoom in/ lift up the explosure, here's what I found: ( the 'you' here refers to the seller) Basicly, there's an orange region on the inner prism elements of viewfinder, which indicates a separation/de-silver ongoing( correct me if I'm wrong). The overall region takes up about 1/4-1/3 of the whole viewfinder, when looks from the front side. I've already give a positive feedback, which is silly, as I didn't find this issue at the first place. The seller claimed in his description that the camera is in 'good condition' and a term of 'by bidding you agree on no return' Although I've held this M4P for a week, I merely played with it as I'm busy with my schoolwork, and I have other cameras with film loaded in. I think this damage cannot be developed within such short time, and the seller might try to hide something. Do you think I wronged the seller? I got this m4P for £700, together with a not very accurate but working MR4( I can calibrate it). The prism can be rebuild here(UK) and the overall cost is still acceptable. What would you do considering its price?

  10. I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on a light leak issue I have with my m4p. I use my camera for street photography, so I walk around with the lens cap off. I also have the camera in a leather half case, which covers the back door. I seem to get a light leak on random frames, from the bottom right hand corner. I figure it can't be the door as the rear of the camera is covered and the sills look in order. Has anyone experienced similar faults or have any remedy suggestions prior to sending it off for a repair?
  11. Hi, I’m new here. I am using Canon DSLR and Nikon F3P film camera. I understand that a Leica camera won’t make me a better photographer, but I like the feel after tested the Leica camera at Leica store, and I love the experience of controlling light by myself. I started from DSLR then move to film, my F3 explore my vision of “how to exposure work”, but relying very minimum of the electronic parts inside my F3 (basically just a light meter). With all the reasons (maybe excuses), I am decided to become one of the Leica member. Last week, I saw a good deal of 50mm f2 rigid, and my finger acted to quickly and accidentally make up the purchase, now it on the way. I hope I can have some of your suggestions here to help me to pick my first Leica to start my Leica journey. Currently, I am considering M3, M4 and M5. Based on my search on the web, M3 is legendary camera, M4 is more modern, M5 is cheap & bulky. is there anyone who used or owned these camera and probably can give some advise to me? I planned to get one film Leica only, afterwards, I will invest into digital Leica. Thank you very much.
