  1. Hallo Leica-Gemeinde, sicher kann mir jemand beantworten ob ein Umbau an der M4 den Betrieb mit dem Leicavit M möglich macht. Vielen Dank schon im Voraus. Gruß, Martin Ernst
  2. Hi, I'm new to Leica's and I have just bought an M4 but as I'm on a pretty tight budget, I bought a Jupiter 12 35mm lens. I've heard good things about this lens for the price but as it doesn't currently fit the M4 I've read that I need an adapter for it. Does anybody know the exact adapter I need? I've seen some on eBay that I think might do the trick but I can't be sure and I don't want to buy the wrong thing! Thanks.
  3. Hi All, Joined this forum to get some info on a Leica M-4 I have. The camera is pretty clean inside and out. When I cycled through the shutter speeds they worked fine until I reach 30 (1/30 second). I think the lightning bolt symbol in between 60 and 30 is 50. The shutter worked fine on that symbol but anything below, the shutter stays open. I have to put it on the B (bulb) to get it to close. Was wondering if anyone out there has info to share on this. Thanks in advance.

  5. With up to $1000 budget, which one would you buy to use and keep? M2, M3 or M4 And are there variations to watch for or watch out for? Also, which starter lens? Thanks J
  6. Today I got my first Leica rangefinder (an M4 in a very good condition) but I stumbled upon 2 issues Loading Film I followed the manual instructions and everything seemed to be fine until I discovered that the film was not advancing (at frame 40+): what did I do wrong? Bright Framelines In some angles in the 35/135 lines framelines mode I see (sometimes) one of the 50mm framelines reflection (just a thin line and only the bottom line): is this a normal reflection issue? thanks in advance for your feedback
  7. Hej, my beloved M4-P seems to suffer from a light leak. See attached snapshots. It appears on one or two exposures per film. All Images are taken with M4-P, Summicron 35mm Asph., original hood and B+W high quality ND Filter. I experienced it only with the Cron so far, though it seems to be body problem. My questions are: Common issue? Where is the light leak? Back door? Shutter? How/Where to repair (Berlin)? Complicated? Expensive? Thank you very much in advance!! Peter
  8. Hi – first post on this forum. Just purchased my first Leica – and I couldn’t be happier. Landed in a mint M4 with 50mm Cron DR (oh what a sweet set). In my other life I also shoot a Nikon D4 – but I wanted to get back to my analog film days. Really looking forward to the experience. I do have some newbie questions – if someone would be so kind as to help me answer (some of) them: 1. Can you use Zeiss cleaning towlettes to clean the Cron and VF/RF windows (not that often, but occasionally when things get really dirty)? I use it on my Nikon glass, but heard that the Cron was somewhat sensitive. 2. 1/60s is usually the minimum handhold speed for digital (typically the reciprocal of your working focal length). Do you find that you can handhold at slower speeds on a Leica RF? 3. Will those diopters you can purchase at places like B&H work on a M4? I couldn’t see how something like that would attach to the small black circular eyepiece. Any suggestions for determining the correct correction? 4. I assume the ASA wheel on the back door is for reference only – as it didn’t look like it moved. 5. Lastly, I purchased a B+W Yellow/Orange MRC filter. What exposure compensation would I apply when using this filter? I assume the filter has an exposure value of 1-2 stops? Appreciate it. Just ordered some Neopan Acros 100 and Ektar 100 and can’t wait to try them out. Cheers, Daniel www.danielstainer.com
  9. I have recently bought an M4 secondhand (of course! :-) ) and as usual the low shutterspeeds 1/4, 1/2 and 1 sec are iregular. The camera otherwise is in mynt condition and with the upper L service-seal. My first thought was to send it to Leica's service in Germany for cleaning and lubrication, so i emailed them with a question of a price estimation but they did not bother even to reply. Does anybody have any price idea, please? My second question is about your advice as to wether to repair the low shutterspeeds at the cost of the L seal. As it concerns the low shutterspeeds only thus the low light photography, i can live with the particular camera-condition. I own lots of digital Nikon equipment that are great for low light photography. On the other half, it feels %#% to have such a great camera but not working perfectly at all shutterspeeds. Any thoughts please???

    A dilemma

Hello everyone, I hope you’re all well! Some time ago I asked for some advice on the Leica M3 and I was very pleased with the responses that I got. I haven’t bought the camera just yet, but I’ve made up my mind - and I will definitely purchase either an M3 or M2 within a month. The deal breaker for me when it comes to these two cameras lies in the M2’s 35mm capabilities and the M2’s supposedly better and brighter viewfinder. What I really need to do is see both cameras in person and see if the M3’s viewfinder is really that much better. If not, I think I will go for the M2, due to its more versatile focal lengths. As a street and travel photographer, I think I will be better suited to the all round versatility of a 50mm lens. My budget is limited to £500 (or slightly above that), so the legendary Summicron 50mm f/2 lens is way beyond my price range at over £1000. This is where I would really appreciate your advice. I have scavenged into the depths of many forums to find three 50mm Leica lenses that sound promising and are appear to be within my price range: Rigid Summicron 50mm f/2 Collapsible Summicron 50mm f/2 Summitar 50mm f/2 I would love to know what everyone thinks about my choice of bodies, and especially the lenses. PS, I live in Glasgow – if anybody has both cameras and wouldn’t mind showing them off to me Thanks a lot!
