Winter came late to Lebanon this season, Acile was the first storm to put our mountains under the beautiful snow mantel. A pair of backcountry skis was all I needed to go up one of the most beautiful cedars reserves to witness what Acile had done. Hope you enjoy the view.

Four years ago I bought a used M262 camera. It was my first digital Leica M body. I used it for a year a didn't bond with it and decided to let it go. I vowed at the time that a digital M was not for me. Today in 2022 after the release of the M11, I came back full circle and purchased a steel grey M9 with an updated sensor for a price more than what I had paid for my M262 purchase. A quick background: I mainly photograph street & environmental portraits using my x100v and GR2. I enjoy them but also love analog/film photography. I love and collect various M film bodies and lenses and shoot color negative film and develop+scan at home to save cost. I use my Sony A9 to scan, for video work and also to adapt my M lenses on. Last week I spent a considerable amount of time developing & scanning over 30 rolls of color films that I had from 2021. I enjoy the final output of film but no matter how I justify it, scanning and editing is a lot of work and time to dedicate as a family guy. I looked at the cost of a dedicated high-end scanner like the Pakon but the prices are in the same ballpark if not more than the "older" digital M bodies. This led me to looking at M digital bodies again. So after some deliberation I decided I'm going to try the M9 to see if it will give me the same "film like" qualities for my images. I'm not a pixel peeper and print occasionally at 8x12 size. I've read alot about the limitation of the M9 body with it's sensor issues, aged electronics/battery and low ISO functionality (which i don't mind as a daytime photographer). I'm curious to see if the "M9 magic talk" is real or hype, I will find out soon after I have it on my hands. Will follow up. -
Hello fellow Leica users, Long story short, I've been a film Leica M shooter for a while now (M2), and I've been considering buying my first digital M. Since they are not even close as repairable as fully mechanical analog M's, I really don't want to spend that much money on a digital one. So I came across a lady willing to sell me her M9 for a "bargain" (something like U$250), but as you guys can tell from the picture above, it comes with the dreaded corroded sensor. I'm no professional and I want one of these to try them out, since I've never truly used one. My question is: how's the situation of this one in particular, can it be used in anyway in this condition? Is it worth it for the price? And finally, is the 1000U$ dollars repair worth in my situation? I'll be very happy with any contributions. Best Regards, Roger

Hello I have recently bought a small fujifilm flash EF-X20 for M9 (its my first flash ever) and maybe it will be a stupid question but I have no idea how to check if its properly mounted because nothing happens when I try to fire it (x mode, m mode, p mode, ttl/manual). I press push button to take it strongly to the end in the hot shoe but cant hear the final click, maybe the contacts dont cover everything and there is no signal? it looks strange from the side as if it couldnt go further or maybe its sth else? The flash fires when I only press a test button.

Bericht: Voigtländer Heliar 3,5/50 mm VM an der M9

Hallo zusammen, weil ich die Idee, Vintage-Objektive an modernen Digitalkameras zu verwenden, interessant finde, habe ich zwei Wochen lang das Heliar 3,5/50 mm VM aus der Classic Line von Voigtländer an meiner M9 ausprobiert. Kurz-Bericht: Das Ding hat mir Spass gemacht. Vom Design und der Verarbeitung her ein echtes Schmuckstück, zwingt das Heliar zum entschleunigten Arbeiten ... im besten Sinne. Zusammen mit der M9 hatte ich das Gefühl, mit einer Kamera aus den 1950er Jahren zu arbeiten (noch mehr als sonst, wenn ich mit der M9 fotografiere ). Die Bildqualität war top. Kann ich das Heliar grundsätzlich empfehlen? Ja und Nein. Wer hofft, dass das Objektiv den Bildern einen Vintage-Look vermittelt, wird enttäuscht. Das Ding ist einfach zu gut. Noch immer ein 5-Linser wie der klassische Vorgänger, aber völlig neu berechnet. Sehr gute Schärfe bereits bei der (mässig lichtstarken) Offenblende, farbneutral wirkendes Rendering, kaum erwähnenswerte Abbildungsfehler. Lediglich Vignettierung, aber das stellt ja heutzutage kein Problem mehr dar. Manch einer wird sich also fragen, warum man sich unter diesen Umständen die "Vintage-Arbeitsweise" mit geringer Lichtstärke, gemeinsam drehenden Blenden- und Fokussierringen und dem Blendenring ohne Raststufen antun muss. Wer es dagegen liebt, old style zu arbeiten und dennoch seinen Objektiven zeitgemäße Leistung abverlangt, wird mit dem Heliar sicher glücklich. So ganz nebenbei hat das Ding auch noch ein vergleichsweise geringes Eigengewicht und eine sich nach vorn verjüngende Bauform, die den Sucher nicht abdeckt. Hallo zusammen, da ich mich über meine Neuerwerbung sehr freue, muss ich dies hier kund tun. Ich habe zuletzt etliche Jahre mit einer Leica X1 fotografiert, dann bin ich vor 5 Jahren auf eine M9 umgestiegen. Damit fotografiere ich regelmäßig und es macht mir eine Menge Spaß. Als Erbstück von meinen Eltern (meine Mutter war Fotografin) habe ich eine Leica IIIc (Baujahr 1949) mit einem Summitar (von 1951) 5 cm, 1:2, die sich - damit Objektiv - in einem sehr schönen und voll funktionsfähigen Zustand befindet. Damit habe ich in den letzten Wochen 2 Filme belichtet, um zu sehen, ob ich überhaupt noch analog und jede Automatik fotografieren kann. Es hat funktioniert. Da die Schraubleica nicht wirklich einfach in der Handhabung ist (Sucherfenster und Entfernungsmesser separat) habe ich über die Anschaffung einer M3 oder M2 nachgedacht. Für die M3 spricht, dass Sie über einen besonders großen Fenster verfügt. Für die M2 sprach ihr Aussehen (sehr schlicht - sehr schön) und die Tatsache, dass man mit ihr problemlos ein 35 mm Objektiv nutzen kann. Nun ist es eine M3 - Kauf per Ebay (trotz grundsätzlicher Bedenken) geworden und ich kann meine Leica-Optiken (meistgenutzt: 50 mm) für den Oldtimer nutzen. Ich bin gespannt darauf, sie in der Hand zu halten und den ersten Film zurück zu erhalten. Beste Grüße Dieter M.
