  1. Hello everyone, I’m asking the question here because I can’t find anything researching online: Leica doesn’t offer lens coding service for the Summilux 50mm v2. i believe it’s due to the mounting method for that flange, which has no screws in the back and probably the barrel needs to be taken apart to do it. i am coding the lens with a Sharpie and it works, but the coding marks wear off with time. Does anybody know of a way to permanently code the lens? Dremel not an option! 😬 Thanks a lot!

    Street portraits

Hi to All, This is my first portrait here. Hope you like it. M9 + lux 50/1.4 pre-asph. Shoot on the street.
  3. Searched online but couldn’t find a definite answer on this. Can anyone help me? I am trying to find out if the lux 50mm E46 pre asph (pic below) weights 275g (same as the regular black model) or if it’s heavier? If anyone who has the lens can let me know the exact weight I’d really appreciate it
  4. Hi, I've entered the world of Leica for a year or so with the Q2, after ditching photography and my Nikon D90 for 5-6 years. This forum has been a great source of information for me from the beginning when researching about the Q2, and has also most certainly fueled some GAS. Well one thing led to another and now I have the Q2 plus an M10-P and 35 Summilux FLE + 50 Summilux ASPH. I got the 50 first and have been using it exclusively for the past 9 months (Only got the 35 last month). However, in the beginning of Jan 2021, I've noticed that I could not get as reliable focus with the 50 at F1.4 as I used to, even shots between 3-5m at F8 were out of focus dead centre. I did some research and testing and found out that the rangefinder patch did not align at infinity (got close but stops short). This happens with both the 35 and the 50, so it went off to get adjusted at Leica here in Bangkok. After adjustment everything seemed to be ok. Rangefinder patch now align at infinity for both lenses (vertical still slightly off but not an issue) and I could focus reliably with the 50 at 1.4 again, even at minimum distance of 0.7m. However, some shots at 2-3 meters now seem a bit off. But yesterday, F2 shots from 0.7m were slightly blurry, and all shots at F2 from 2-5 meters were off. When zoomed in the photos are not sharp at all. I then did a little test, taking photos slightly before the rangefinder patch aligned, which produced even blurrier pictures, and taking photos a bit pass the rangefinder patch alignment (about 1mm i.e. compensating for front focusing issues). The pictures taken with the rangefinder patch slightly past alignment were extremely sharp, as the 50 Summilux ASPH should be, and was when I first got it. I then swapped in the 35 Summilux FLE and did the same test at F1.4, resulting in photos identical in sharpness. I am aware that the DOF difference of the 35 may be masking any effects that are shown on the 50, as the DOF of 35 at F1.4 is 60cm, and 50 at F2 is 40cm. Unfortunately I don't have any long Leica lenses to test with. M10-P is still within it's 2 year warranty, bought 2nd hand but no dings or anything suggesting it has been dropped. Worked perfectly for the past 8 months as well. Both lenses were bought new and within warranty. Wondering what it might be. Maybe I need to send both the body for calibration again, but this time together with the 50 Summilux? I am really hoping that the lens does not have to go back to Germany.
  5. Tried to do Multi-shot exposure on my SL2s with Summicron-M 50mm, Super-Elmar-M21mm, Voigtlander APO-Lanthar 35mm. File size 12000x8000=96MB. Terrible result with all 3 lenses and I thought of doing something wrong. Changed to a super rigid tripod and the results were the same bad. Pictures look at 100% kind of having poor resolution. Even the 1 shot DNG files are in no way the quality of the same lenses on my M10-R. I use the original Leica M Adapter to L. All pictures shorter than 1/1000s. 100% crop. Anybody comes to the same conclusion.
  6. I did a direct comparison shot with the following 50mm Leica-M lenses: Summarit 2.5, DR Summicron, Summicron vers. V, APO-Summicron, Summilux V3, Summilux ASPH. All shot at aperture f2 (Summarit at 2.5), focus on infinity, lens hood, M10-P, jpg out of camera. Here’s the whole picture:
  7. I wrote another article on my website about the Summilux-M 50mm ASPH. on the Leica M (Typ 240) A day with Summilux-M 50mm ASPH. on Leica M (Typ 240) - Jip van Kuijk Here are some preview pictures:
  8. Do APO 50mm users find the lens Image Quality makes up for losing 1 stop compared to the Lux? I have the summicron 50mm ASPH and the Summilux 50mm ASPH. I purchased the f2.0 first and then a couple of years later the Lux 50mm f/1.4. The cron hasn't been on my M9 since. I shoot a high percentage shots at 1.4, maybe 30%. I am on the waiting list for the APO 50mm cron F2.0. I really enjoy having f/1.4 and the focusing tab on the Lux I really enjoy the smaller e39 lens and the size of the cron. The APO comes with the focusing tab, so that is definitely a plus for me, plues e39 instead of e46 another plus. I read the thread on APO 50mm flare, and it seems to me that it is a non-issue at this point. For those that made the transition to the APO 50mm f/2.0, does the IQ make up for the loss of a stop, i.e. the f/1.4 that the Lux has? When my name comes up on the list for the APO, I would probably fund it by trading in the 50mm cron and Lux, hence my question. For now the lenses are used exclusively on a M9 Thanks in advance for any responses.
  9. I almost got scared when I developed this film (my first analog film ever) - he feels so real:-)
  10. I have a silver Leica-M 50 mm lens f 1.4 Summilux with serial number 1946918 (Germany). The serial number indicates that this lens is from 1962. It is in very good condition and works flawlessly. Q1) Am I correct in assuming it is the first type of this lens? Q2) My other question: I saw two other lenses like these on internet" - the first has serial number 1945xxx see: Leica M 1:1,4/50 mm Summilux Silver, Version 1., 2.160,00 € - the second has serial number 2072xxx see: LEICA SUMMILUX 50mm f/1.4 (1960-2004) My lens number is in the middle of these numbers. The first lens on internet has "13" engraved behind the letter "m" and beneath the word "feet" of the focusing scale. The second lens has "14" engraved in this place. However, my lens has no engraving in this place what so ever. Can anyone tell me what this engravings mean and why there isn't any on my lens? Thank you!
  11. Unexpected one day visit to an abandoned factory, a circumstance not to be missed, low lighting, interesting shapes and architectures: >>> A day inside M9, with Summilux 50mm.
