1. Thank you to everyone who took part in last month's 152nd Barnack's Monthly theme, which was filled with more than 1,850 pictures, excellent ideas and interpretations of the theme. Also, thank you to everyone who helped to make it another successful month by generously posting their pictures and in particular to those people who posted for the first time - I hope you found it an interesting and rewarding experience and I hope it encourages you to share more of your pictures with us! The 153rd Barnack's Monthly theme for June 2021 is: Night or low light. This month's theme is any picture that was taken at night or in low light conditions, the eerier the better. For example, it could be a moonlit evening, a white cat in a coal shed, taken in a dimly-lit bar, a partial eclipse of the sun, shot at dusk, shot at dawn, the lights of a city, a starry sky, car tail-light trails, a foggy evening, a fireworks display, a sports stadium after dark, a cloudy full-moon night, a performance at the theatre - it's entirely your choice so let your imagination run free! It would be a big help if you give your picture a title so to help us understand your point of view. Members have asked if we'd very kindly name the camera and lens used - if you can remember - because it's interesting to know but, again, it's just helpful. The rules are deliberately loose so go out and shoot with this month's theme in mind or start searching back through those pictures you took oh-so long ago that you'd forgotten about and start posting! It doesn't have to be your best ever shot and it's not a competition so you might surprise the rest of us and yourself - it's just about sharing some pictures, seeing others' take on the topic, and enjoying it! Everybody's welcome to contribute, any interpretation, any number of posts, pictures that have been posted on the forum before, any equipment as long as it and the photo complies with the forum's rules of either camera or lens or both made by Leica. Please post freely - especially newcomers and please remember there's no judging or criticism (good or bad) in this thread. So, if you'd like to show your acknowledgement or appreciation that someone has posted their picture then instead of posting a comment please use the "Thanks" button that you can find at the bottom right of every post. Please post away and I look forward to seeing your interesting interpretations of this month's theme. Note: Moderator Pop has very kindly assembled links to all of the past Barnack's Monthly threads as a single archive that can be found here: Barnack's Monthly Index. Thank you, Pop! Pete.
2. Milky Way over a bridge near my hometown. (Leica X2 at f/2.8, ISO 1600, 15 seconds).
3. Night train at Waterloo station DLux 4
4. Here is some comparison I made between Leica M 240 and M9 for a night photo made at ISO 200, 1250 and 3200-2500. Enjoy ! Leica M (type240) vs Leica M9 – Night Landscape Photos Comparison
5. there is a fort in our neighbourhood. It is the landmark of our city and from our house a short walk. I go there very often just for a check and evening afterwork stroll. the red cloth was wrapped on the occasion of an action of out local decoration specialists as a weekend attraction. due to compression I am afraid the last one may not show its full potential. Probably I have to check the method of downscaling. There are some deficiencies itne sky and the texture of the stones which are not being seen in my Tiff files. Perhaps somebody has an advice for downscaling properly. Canon MKII with Elmarit R lenses 35 mm and 60 mm Macro
6. Gütersloh is a small city in our neighbourhood but an attractive place for a few big companies. This is the new building which is during daytime looking like a shopping mall but at night when being illuminated it is showing its purpose: it is the home of a new theatre and concert hall. The X1 one with 800 ISO was handheld and open lens and 1/30 sec. It is a snapshot just before rushing in for a concert.
7. falling snow inspired me for a stroll to the city. The MKII wrapped in plastic foil and the Elmarit 35mm was mounted for the walk. The picture is showing the view to the landmark of Bielefeld, an old fort of the middle ages in the background. The sculpture in front of Henry Moore belongs to the park of the Art-Museum. Since it was very dark I used an LED lenser for additional light. Thanks for having a look.
8. The Open-Air Museum in Detmold, Germany, Northrhine Westphalia, is the biggest of its kind in Europe. Old farmhouses from the region were shifted to this place and their historic value can be admired along with tools of agriculture and arts of craftsmanship. Walking in a beautiful landscape with a look into history makes this place a great attraction. In winterseason it is closed but opened on the 2nd advent for this occasion ans everything is being illuminated. The first picture is showing the central village with a pond, the second one is showing the same village from a distant view. All pictures taken with Canon 5D MKII and the Elmarit R 35 mm. Thanks for viewing
9. Last night I took a trip into the centre of the city to look at the temporary ice rink but also took the opportunity to photograph the latest city centre leisure complex consisting of 10 cinema screens and countless restaurants. The ice rink is visible as the blue area bottom left, but not the purpose of this image. I must be honest, it is probably a young persons place, and I am not a young person, but I was quite pleased with my efforts. Here is a sample image taken at 2500iso using the Leica M240 and 24mm Elmarit-M f2.8. Settings were 1/45 at f2.8 (no tripod). 10. Anasco Bay on Puerto Rico's rural and less well traveled west coast is reputed to be the point of discovery of the Isla by Columbus on his second voyage. A couple of nights ago the moon was full and rising low and early in the evening. On a lark I quickly set up my tripod and with M8 and 28mm elmerit made a long exposure. Thanks for looking.
11. Well, I guess it's travel...D Lux 4 at Clapham Junction.
12. Church, Old Isleworth. During the day, this is all one building...at night, the minimal floodlighting breaks the building up into these unconnected parts. D Lux 4.

14. Some shots from my recent trip to Tokyo, Japan. I wound up using the D-Lux 5 quite a bit. It was a joy to use and I was impressed with the image quality. 16. I wanted a break from weddings and daylight beach oriented landscape work and so I have begun a series of night photographs. This first image was made just down the road where I live. As I processed the image it became perhaps more noire than I originally intended. M8 50mm lux pre. 1sec exposure 640 ISO. Thanks for looking.
17. A Porsche Cayman GT sitting in a dark alley in Shanghai at night. … more on my website in the blog here or the gallery here. Thanks for looking ;-)

19. Has anyone tried this film ? someone i met said its great for astro shots https://www.ultrafineonline.com/ulxtblwhfiis3.html
20. This is a 3-picture panorama of Horseshoe Falls from my hotel window. It is so difficult to convey the sheer majesty and raw power of this extraordinary place. The fully-grown trees to the right of the falls offer some sense of scale. Pete. M8 with 28/2.8 Elmarit-M asph v1
