A teenager who is too shy hides his face whilst his friends pose for a photograph at the Southampton Pride Parade event (taken with his permission) Leica M9 with 35mm Summarit-M f2.5.
-
Celebrating the first Pride Parade in Southampton for 15 years, this transgender person is happy to be photographed. Although the first Gay pride rally was held in London in 1972 many smaller cities in the United Kingdom have been slow in celebrating LGBT diversity, but with a large student population Southampton has finally caught up with modern thinking at a colourful fun-filled event. I was on the lookout also for photos for the National geographic assignment about hair, and felt this fitted the bill. Taken using an M9 with 35mm Summitar f2.5. Gerry

I decided to try out shooting .dng and b&w .jpeg fine on the M9, and this is the result. Post processing was done in a combination of Lightroom and SilverEfex Pro2. All in all I am pretty happy with the result. Caption: An Asian woman tries to persuade a disabbled woman to take a book about meditation, and then asks for payment for it. Back in 1998 I went on a package tour to Beijing with my wife, but the images have lain pretty dormant in my filing cabinet since. I am now going through some of my older work and scanning it, and I was particularly pleased with this one which was shot on Fuji Provia using an M6 and Summicron-M f2. The exact details have been lost in the annal of time, but I think it was taken in the Forbidden City and shows a man who has brought his caged crickets out to enjoy the winter sunshine. I remember reading that Marc Ribaud )Magnum) had gone to China to photograph the Tiananmen Square 'happenings' in 1989 but had been so fascinated by people in the cafes with crickets he missed the main event. This then I guess is a sort of tribute to him.

Whilst waiting to get my hair cut I decided to take a few photos, mainly to use up a roll of film. The barber and his customer kindly gave permission. Taken with Leica M7 and 24mm Elmarit f2.5 using Ilford Delta 400, scanned and post-processed in Lightroom. Gerry

Three Asian tourists sample the delights of one of the many stalls selling a variety of freshly cooked food within the main market which can be found just off La Rambla in Barcelona. The Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria, often simply referred to as La Boqueria, dates back to 1217, although the preset structure dates to 1853. Now firmly on the international tourist trail, the market is still popular with locals and visitors alike. Leica M9 and Zeiss 50mm Sonnar f1.5. 1/30 - f4 - 800iso. Gerry

The following three images are from a film I shot in 2002 using the Leica M6 and 50mm Summicron (I think!) at a street festival in Emsworth, England. I hope you like at least one of them! Gerry

A few months ago, despite all the warnings I'd read online regarding focusing issues, I purchased a Canon 50 f1.2 LTM lens off Ebay. Of course, it had focusing issues. Wide open, it wouldn't focus to infinitiy, and once I stopped down to f 8 or so, it would finally focus correctly. However, since I occasionally like a challenge, and I looked at the lens as a beater, I decided to try to my hand at fixing it. Long story short, at f1.2, I can focus correctly only at 1 meter, it won't focus to infinity, but at f2.8, it focuses correctly. So, there's an improvement. I continue to experiment with the lens, though I haven't sat down to take it apart again. Here's a pic I took on my recent trip to Turkey. It was a cloudy day as I crossed the Bosporus on the ferry. M9. 1600 ISO. Converted to B/W in Lightroom.

I took this on a trip to Barcelona in November 2015, but I have just worked on it to get a look I am happy with so that I could submit it to a National Geographic project entitled 'Quiet Moment'. I used a Leica M9 with 35mm Leica Summarit f2.5 lens and shot at 400iso. Gerry
