  1. Mettricks is the local coffee stop for me in Southampton. I took this whilst waiting for a friend for coffee. Outside the window you can see a group of Morris dancers preparing for a music festival. Leica M240 + 35mm Summarit f2.5 @ 1000iso. Gerry
  2. It's not a done deal just yet, but this is good news. I usually shoot Tri-X as an all-around B&W emulsion, but lately I have been thinking of picking up a fine grained higher contrast ISO emulsion for landscapes and some travel work. If Fuji actually does resurrect Acros, it would be a truly outstanding turn of events.

    Talking Point

Another from my walk last week. Taken with the M4-P and 35mm Summarit f2.5 lens and shown full frame. Film was Ilford HP5+ developed in Tetenal Paranol S, and then post-processed in LR Classic. Whilst the developer will not be my future choice, it can yield some good results if you are able to control the grain. Certainly the tonal range is good. Gerry
  4. I have just rediscovered a couple of rolls of HP5+ which I shot in 1998, developed and filed away. They are of a trip to London I took on our wedding anniversary, but have never printed. As far as I can remember/guess they were taken with a Leica M3 and 50mm Summicron f2 but I have no idea what I processed them in. I have now scanned them, and they are mainly of Pearly Kings and Queens arriving for the traditional Harvest Festival service at the church of St. Martins-in-the-Fields which is on trafalgar Square, London. Here is just 4 as a taster (the first one also shows a Chelsea Pensioner) Gerry
  5. Part of my 'return to film' project, this was taken about two weeks ago using my Leica M4-P and 35mm Summarit f2.5 lens. the film is HP5+ and I guessed the exposure. Hope you like it. Gerry

  7. Minnie Mouse meets Spiderman! Taken at the 2017 Southampton Mela. Leia M7 + 35mm Summarit f2.5. Ilford 400 Delta film processed by Ilford/Harman and scanned here at home. Hope you like it. Gerry

  10. "Breakfast" - taken early morning in St. Pauli Fischmarkt
  11. Last weekend I was in Hamburg to join the Craig Semetko workshop on street photography organised by LFI. Now, I will confess that I was a little dubious as to whether I would gain much from this and it worked out fairly expensive taking into account the fact that I had to book 4 nights accommodation and flights from the U.K. - and face the hard fact that the value of the UK pound had plummeted by over 25% in Europe since it was decided (not by my vote) that we should pull out of the E.U. I have been shooting 'street photography' for around 50 years, and have exhibited it pretty much world-wide so would I really gain anything? In the end I decided that, at the very least, I would get to meet Craig who has been a friend on Facebook for a long time and whose work I admire. As it was I found I learnt more than I could have imagined, met some great new guys, together with the picture editor of Die Zeit Sunday magazine (you don't meet people at that level every day of the week!) Basically I had a ball despite the cold Hamburg weather. I will post a few of my favourites in the following posts. All were shot on a Leica M9 with a 35mm Summarit-M f2.5 lens at 800iso to allow me the depth of field and shutter speed combination I wanted. I hope you enjoy them. Oh, and if you get chance and street photography is your thing (or even if it is not) go and meet Craig. He is a great entertainer and a consummate professional when it comes to street photography. As for LFI, they are great guys and special thanks must go to Simon Schwarzer. Gerry "Christ!"
  12. "Badwater, IV" from Death Valley, USA. Leica SL, Voigtlander 15mm v. III. Thanks for viewing, best Vieri
  13. A smartly dressed mature couple out on a shopping trip in Spitalerstraße, Hamburg Leica M9 with 35mm Summarit f2.5. 1/125 f8 @800iso post-processed in Lightroom CC. Thanks for looking, Gerry
  14. I have just completed my first on-line photo story using Adobe Slate which i found very easy to use. Please take a look: httslate.adobe.com/cp/2X8vh/ . Not all images were shot on Leica because I switched from a Fujifilm X-Pro1 back to a Leica M9 half way through shooting (and I am delighted to be back with Leica!) Thanks for looking, Gerry
  15. I titled this 'Was that you?"
  16. The following three images are from a film I shot in 2002 using the Leica M6 and 50mm Summicron (I think!) at a street festival in Emsworth, England. I hope you like at least one of them! Gerry
  17. I shot this in Beijing in 1998 using a Leica M6 and 50mm Summicron f2 lens. The film was Tri-X. I have just got around to scanning it as part of my efforts to digitise many years of film images. I guess these streets have disappeared now since the rebuilding for the Olympics. I have just started shooting film again with a M7!
  18. Within the M system, If we want to make black and white prints we have the following options: Film M camera and film, M240/M-P conversion to B&W, M Monochrom version one and M Monochrom typ 246. I must admit that so far I have never seen a B&W print from the typ 246 fine print in real time, only on the web; it seems that M cameras of any kind in these parts (midwest USA) are only slightly more prevalent than unicorns. From what I can see online though, the image quality of typ 246 prints when created by a skilled printer is simply astounding; by all appearances, typ 246 prints look for all the world like they equal or exceed 4x5 inch prints made in a wet darkroom. I have shot a lot of B&W film in my M4-P and I still love that camera and the process of film photography. However, the typ 246 is a compelling camera in light of the printed image quality it produces (based on my limited observations) and other considerations such as a maximum ISO of 25,000 and the speed/convenience of digital shooting and printing. For those who own the typ 246 camera and make fine prints, can you provide some insight regarding printed image quality? Any thoughts on the process of printing from typ 246 image files will be greatly appreciated; is it best to shoot in compressed DNG mode or uncompressed DNG? Thanks in advance to any and all who reply. I am seriously considering acquiring a Monochrom 246 and will be grateful for any insight and thoughts shared.
  19. Children eat their lunch against a fence whilst their mothers chat to friends at the pony sales in the New Forest National Park, Hampshire, England. Taken using a Leica M7 with 35mm Summarit f2.5 lens and Fuji MPN400CN film. Post-processed in Lightroom Gerry
  20. I decided to try out shooting .dng and b&w .jpeg fine on the M9, and this is the result. Post processing was done in a combination of Lightroom and SilverEfex Pro2. All in all I am pretty happy with the result. Caption: An Asian woman tries to persuade a disabbled woman to take a book about meditation, and then asks for payment for it. (Taken in Southampton, England) Gerry
  21. Taken in 2002 using a Leica M6 but I am afraid I have no further details as i have mislaid the negative: Gerry
  22. A teenager who is too shy hides his face whilst his friends pose for a photograph at the Southampton Pride Parade event (taken with his permission) Leica M9 with 35mm Summarit-M f2.5.
