Boojay Posted January 15, 2019 Share #4185 Posted January 15, 2019 Willow Tit and Long Tailed Tit, garden visitors, our abandoned christmas tree makes a good place for the odd bit of bird food. Both huge crops, just shows how well the 55-135 does on the CL. Would still like something longer in the TL range please, please Mr Leica. Welcome, dear visitor! Yes, for small birds this excellent lens is just not really long enough. BTW the second bird looks more like a Coal tit than a Willow tit to me. The Willow tit doesn't have the pronounced black bib, or the faint white bars on the wings. Also very distinctive, but not really visible in your shot is the back of the head where the black has a broad white stripe down it. The Coal tit is a lovely little bird, but I think the Long-tailed tit is much more dramatic and engaging. Thanks for pics. Tim

I totally agree about the long tailed tits, when they pop by, usually mob handed, they are very entertaining.

That's a wonderful capture, and in the interests of constructive criticism and discussion, I'm wondering what you and other folks might think about two things: 1. You seem to have taken the shot with a wider-angle lens (equivalent of FF 35mm?). Both straight line references (the walls) to the far left and esp. the near right are slanted. It's certainly fine, but wondering whether you could either straighten them computationally or crop. 2. The blown highlights of the window (door?) shutter are either attractive or distracting--I think an argument can be made for either. The woman's face is so wonderfully lovely (and the dog's toy facing the other way is such a fantastically whimsical offset) that the window shutter actually is helpful in taking some focus away from her, giving it balance. OTOH, the light coming through is somewhat harsh. As I said, I could see either aesthetic as defensible, and maybe one approach would be to try to soften the harsh light just a tad and see what that looks like. Thanks for a terrific photo! It certainly deserves to be featured in Favorite Images. Edited January 16, 2019 by bags27
