Just sold mine, did really well on it, think I'm picking up a NIB M10-R and pocketing a few extra thousand dollars, even with buying the R close to retail, no regrets, gives me some more cash for a lens.

If you decide to sell that lens, you might not be able to get back the BP which many collectors are happy letting them sit in their dry cabinets 🤣

Just seen this on the Official Leica Shop page (100% owned by Leica), they call the artificially brassed black paint cameras nice "forced" patina.
I kind of like the name. (just the name, the depicted camera is not done with style).

Ugh, what a shame. Another example of more money than sense.

Eh, I don't know, other than it being irreversible it's not really any different to people putting on soft releases or fancy straps, or buying a fancy leather bag to carry it in.. People like to bling up their gear and very few Leica digital bodies will be around long enough to show signs of significant natural brassing.

And while I don't personally like the sandpapered look I don't really care if people do that to their own cameras, ESPECIALLY if it reduces the value of that camera for the next buyer when they finally sell it 😄

In the model making world we call it weathering, and it's an entire artform. Making a newly painted model look weathered and naturally worn is a skill developed over a loooong time. I'm sure there would be a market for someone with enough skill to nail that naturally brassed look, haven't seen a good example of it yet though (or maybe I have and just didn't realise it!).

Two important things we learn from this M10-R Black Paint listing that just hit the official Leica owned world wide online store from London's Mayfair shop:

1. Contrary to popular myth that only film Leicas do it, digital Ms DO get up in price as well.
2. ALL digital Leica cameras have shutter count, just like I have been explaining and showing the M10's service screen here. Nobody shared the keys combo to get in yet though.

That camera has been on offer for a while.  I’d like to think it would sell at that price, if only because I also have a 10R Black Paint, but I doubt it.

Well. The Black Paint is meant to wear to the brass. Mine has scratches and some brassing. I wouldn't say it devalues the camera. It is doing what it was meant to do. I'm not going to take sand paper to it, but some parts will eventually wear to brass. I'm not covering my BP M10R with covers and handling it with gloves. Why buy the BP then?

Mine were either scratches, rubbing from the strap, putting it up to my chest (which is why the bottom left started to wear). I started seeing little white dots which I thought were smudges but, especially the bottom cover, as I cleaned it and rubbed it left the black paint specs on the cloth.

So basically where the strap rubs, where my thumb goes, and where it rests on my chest when i hold it.

also I am going to keep this camera forever. This is mine. So I don't care what someone else thinks about it being scratched. Things get scratched when you use them.

Nice patina and I am glad to see I am not the only one removing the plastic protection and the ugly CE stickers from the bottom plates on my cameras.

This one has just arrived as marked on the photo and website.

Well, it might be a new addition, but I receive regular marketing emails from Mayfair and they usually say 'just arrived'.  I remember seeing another BP at Mayfair at least three months ago and I'm sure it was the same price.  At the time, I was thinking of trading my BP for M11P - was offered a straight swap, but decided against.  Here is the last email I received - also offered a rather nice silver M9Pat GBP 3,995 and SL2S Reporter at GBP 4,400, all of which had 'just arrived'.

Recently seen one for 4300€, like new, full set, 2 batteries, 6000 shots...I didn't react because I prefer the black chrome version that I already have.

I should have bought it and sold it right after in the UK 🙂

Smells of scam.

One could think, but it's not the case. It was proposed (and sold) on a Leica forum, together with a Summilux 50mm Asph and a Summilux 35mm FLE, also at a very attractive price.

Who cares what the bottom looks like? Since my M6 bodies in the 1980s I've never removed the plastic, primarily because I never see it so I don't think about it.

Here's the soft release I use to bling my M10M. It was run over by cars a few times after being dropped in the road. 😁

I had the good fortune to visit the Kurland Leica Store in Soho just prior to Covid, you managed to purchase a BP with a worthy ownership history - Congratulations, especially at the price.

I have a lowly - silver M10-R with matching silver LHSA Summilux-M ASPH 50mm.

Seems like a post has been removed?

Agreed, I had in my post 669, responded to a new BP buyer who had purchased Eli Kurland's personal M10-R BP from Leica SoHo,

Strangely that post was removed - without a trace.

There is no such thing as a lowly M10-R. Good thing you covered that red dot. Now nobody will know it's a Leica.
