  1. The cost of the rangefinder mechanism must be a factor and perhaps the overall cost of assembly as well. Is the M priced too high, or the SL priced too low? My guess is Leica would like to charge more for the SL but it has to compete in a much wider market. The M is niche, doesn't have any obvious competitors, so is not so price sensitive.
  2. One year later . . . we didn’t quite make 100 pages and 2,000 posts, but there is a couple of hours to go 🙈
  3. Maybe, maybe not. I remember watching an interview with Ragnar Axelsson where he described a similar technique. I think the lens tab was positioned at 6 o’clock and that equated to a distance of 6 feet. He used this for pre-focusing. Maybe not absolutely perfect for pixel peeping but good enough for RAX. I think he mainly uses SL cameras now but some of his best work has been with the M.
  4. I like the way that photos 1, 3 and 4 appear to be floating. The abstract nature of the photo also works very well.
  5. Consumers are certainly bigger and fatter 😂. I've had five 911's, the fattest was also the fastest (Turbo) but then I bought a Cayman GT4. A better car than the 911, but aimed at a different market. Have now gone electric with the Taycan, which is even wider and longer and sometimes seems like driving a MacBook Pro on wheels. A far cry from the lightest car I've ever owned . . . but mustn't digress from the main topic.
  6. That's because of continually updated safety regulations, not just for the driver but also anyone unfortunate enough to be hit by a car. No parallels in camera design, in fact tech advances almost always means smaller in consumer products.
  7. I like the idea but it has been done before and the prices - M7 and MA Titan - were astronomic. They are for the very wealthy collectors and I doubt these cameras ever get used
  8. Old vase . . . M10R and 50mm Noctilux f1.2 reissue
  9. Another from Win Green . . .
  10. The owner (founder) of Rega plays for my table tennis club 😃🏓 As you might expect, he has a pretty impressive hi fi set up in his house as well.
  11. Dark and spooky Win Green . . .
  12. Oh dear, I have a Porsche Taycan and a Leica. Of course, you only feel the pain when selling and I will keep both. Digressing slightly, the problem with cars is that silly PCP credit deals enable people to buy something when they couldn't even afford the HP payments. I always buy new, always pay cash, only spend what I can afford, and always have a healthy trade-in to offset the cost of my next purchase. Back on topic . . . my Leica is the M10R Black Paint and Leica Mayfair have one on offer at GBP 11,800 so that model is bucking the trend. But I'm still not selling 😃
