You may be right 🙂

Hope you don’t mind, but I took the liberty of doing that crop for you.  What do you think?

Yes, I see what you mean, the proportions are much better.  I must experiment more with different crop settings.

Some side by side comparisons of the M240 v M10 for you with DNG as well. All are full-res JPG and you can download the DNG from the link next to the image description if you want to play with highlight recovery and suchlike. All on auto white balance. Exif is in the pics (though no approximated aperture on the M10 which is rather odd).

Sorry - no high ISO but you know the M10 will be better anyway.

No prizes needed for technical and compositional excellence as my talent is obvious to all :).

M-240 with 24 Summilux at f/5.6 (DNG is here)

M10 same lens & aperture (DNG is here)

M240 24 Summilux at f/1.4 (DNG is here)

M10 Same lens and aperture (DNG is here)

I'm glad I decided to come back and plow through this long thread because I used your links to get to your website. The images there are really wonderful and I loved your comparisons of the M10 and CL--especially the part about how the M10 "smells nice."

Schoolhouse, central coast California.  Leica M10 + 35mm f2.5 shot at f16 ISO 800 (my mistake I should have opened the aperture a little more)..

Sure doesn't look like a "mistake" to me.

I cannot emphasize how much I love the m10.  This is Horsetail Falls in Yosemite National Park.  This was my capture of the "Firefall" phenomenon that occurs at the end of February for about two weeks at sunset when conditions are perfect.  I posted details about the natural event in the Photo Forum.

This was shot with the m10 and an older R 200mm VIII 2.8.  It is a slight crop to remove an annoying tree branch on the right.

And who says M10's aren't suitable for landscape?  M10 + 21mm Super Elmar f3.4 with a grad density filter on the sky to control contrast.  Fairly minimal processing other than opening in Photoshop, accepting RAW defaults and applying linear contrast curve.

I did note however minor wiggle play on the front portion of my 21mm lens (the component past the aperture control).  I'm not sure I can detect issues with the resulting image, but am wondering, have others seen a slight wiggle on the front portion of this lens?   Surprised, given the price of this lens; O\or should I forget about it and focus on enjoying the image taking?

Anyhow, the sunset was great.

Cheers,

John

I've walked by the tea house any number of times from the Cliff Walk side and never paid any attention to it before. This is a terrific shot and really shows the artistry of Leica (and the photographer). As it turns out, the tea house is actually a building with an important history. It's where Alva Vanderbilt Belmont (very "lucky" in love twice!) held suffragete rallies: https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/rhode-island/chinese-tea-house-in-rhode-island/

Which is not all that surprising as recent scholarship has shown that the white women's suffrage movement was pretty exclusive in terms of race and class.
