Hi! I have 3 older Leica's that I inherited from my grandfather. I have been trying to look up the value and the best place to sell them in the Netherlands but I am a bit lost. I have a Leica CL with a summicron-c 1:2/40 and an Elmar-c lens I have a Leica II mini and a Leica D.R.P. Ernst Leitz Wetzlar No 508566 Elmar1:3,5 All are working and in perfect condition, including original user manuals. Can someone advice me what the best place is to go and maybe give an estimation of what I can ask for these cameras? I also have a few Leica books, I would like to know the best place to sell these as well. Thank you so much in advance! Sara

Hi everyone, I'm currently working on a project to once and for all fix the analogue Leica CL's broken take up spool problem, by 3D printing them. I've ran a roll through mine with version 2 of the spool and it works pretty good, but i'm working on version 3 which should be better still - I got the dimensions slightly wrong on this one - it's too short. How many of you CL owners would be interested in buying such an item? They'd cost around £20 and be sold through eBay all said and done, and I'd make a video showing how to take apart the CL and install them, as well as reassembly - International shipping would happen too through the eBay GSP as I'm UK based. The attached photo is version 2 and not by any means the final version as this is still in very early development, but the quality of the ones that go on sale will be much higher. This one was printed by a friend of mine, but I'm soon going to acquire my own printer and make them much better. I know also that this doesn't look anything like the original, but when I copied the original part dimension for dimension, curve by curve, it didn't work and suffered the same problems as the original.. immediately. Thus I simplified it and made it more "3D Printer friendly." Thanks Tom

Hi all! I have been testing the Commlite CM-EF-L autofocus adapter with several Canon EF lenses on my Leica CL, and I am glad to report that it works. As expected, AF-C and focus tracking is not supported, but the AF-S works reasonably well. Focusing speed and precision with most lenses is at almost native T/TL lenses level. So: -AF-S works (no tracking). Touch AF also works. -IS with Canon stabilized lenses works. -EXIF data is transferred correctly to the files, save for the F/1.2 that is reported as F/1.3 (something I had already seen with other third party AF adapters on Sony cameras). I used A and M modes, on Firmware 4.0. Adapter firmware is upgradeable via an USB port on the adapter itself. There are no new FW listed on Commlite’s site, and it worked right out of the box. The lenses that I tested, and worked, so far are: 14/2.8L-II, 16-35/4L-IS, 24/2.8 IS, 24/1.4L-II, 40/2.8 STM, 50/1.2L, 50/2.5 compact macro (with and without the Lifesize 1:1 converter), 85/1.2L-II and 100/2 USM. The only glitch I have experienced is that Battery level is not correctly reported to the camera, and the first time I mounted the adapter on the CL, I got a warning message about the “Camera possibly not displaying reliable battery charge levels with this lens” that did not repeat. In fact, after a hundred exposures with different lenses, the battery appeared as depleted. The workaround I found was shutting down the camera, taking off the battery, mount a native TL lens, put again the battery in and the charge was there again, correctly reported at about 2 / 3. During next week I will try to test the adapter with more Canon FF lenses, and EF-S APSc lenses. I am very interested to see how the compact EF-S 10/18 zoom and EF-S pancake 24/2.8 perform on the CL. So, after all the let down expectatives we CL users held on the MC-21 adapter by Sigma, I am glad to share that there’s still a light on the path to use many more lenses options!

Hello, I recently had the chance to get a Leica CL + 18mm f2.8 in good conditions at a very good price. I already have a Sony A7C, but I wanted to try this little Leica and (maybe) make the switch between them. I am loving the CL, it has a good IQ, it is more pocketable and I am getting good results in testing it (though I think I would exchange the 18mm with the 23mm in the future, and get a zoom). My only worry is that the CL is not wheather sealed and I don't really know how it could manage some trips I have planned for next year, especially a trip to Lapland to see the aurora borealis. Has anyone tried the camera in cold temperatures or does anyone have this kind of travelling experience with the CL? I am loving the it, but if it's not a camera I can use (also) in this kind of trips I am afraid I'll have to keep the A7C and sell the CL. Unfortunately I can't keep both. Thanks everybody!

Has anyone used Auto-ISO enough to note whether the CL exhibits a stock preference to either shutter speed or ISO speed, or is it so damn smart it automagically knows which you would wish to be quicker? For example, when moving from indoor to strong sunlight and back again, setting at ISO max 6400, with a shutter minimum of 1/60s in AP mode you might expect sharp images with manageable noise all the time, but is it truly pot luck shot to shot which variable the camera changes to correct exposure? Is it true to say the function produces consistent results with only a "short range" set, if so what have you found to be acceptable? Three question marks in one post, sorry about that.

hello, i own the CL only for a few days now. when i use the cl in A-, S- or P-auto mode i get no under-/overexposure warning (shutterspeed-/aperture-display turns from white to red) when the lowest or highest aperture value combined with the set shutter speed and iso (iso-mode in auto) will result in under or overexposure (see discription on page 52/53). the displayed values are allways shown in white when i press the shutter botton to the first pressure point. I use a tl-lens f2/35. i made a camera-reset, but the problem remains. what is wrong? Is it the firmwareversion 2.1? is it a technical defect or is it me not understanding the camera? what causes the problem? please excuse my bad english Jo

I've had my CL for a year now. That's a long time for me to keep a camera. It's been all over the place with me, and I've put together a nice little kit with the 23, 18-56 and 55-135 which work very nicely together indeed. I've written up my thoughts, plus also the pros and cons versus the M10 (which I sold after I bought the CL). Enjoy - lots of pics if you don't like reading 🙂 http://tobinators.com/blog/2018/11/gear-and-kit/leica-cl-lenses-1-year-on/

Brand new option for CL with firmware 3.1 : always ON touch focus. Such as found with the Q2. Is a total mess with the CL. The CL screen is to close to the palm. And it always registers new focus point at the far upper or lower right corners. Way worst than wandering focus point. It makes the CL almost unusable !

Hey gang - wondering if anyone else out there is having the same issue I am presently facing in trying to enable some camera's capture assistance features on my Leica CL? I'm presently using Camera Firmware Version 2.2. Here's the items within the Capture Assistants section of the menu and a rundown of the functionality I 'have/don't have' for each: Grid Setup - Working, no issues here. Clipping - Does not display. Horizon - Does not display (this is the function that I'd really like to enable) Histogram - Does not display. Troubleshooting so far: Disabled then Enabled (and vice-versa) for each function. No dice, doesn't make a difference for the display of Clipping, Horizon, or Histogram. Only the Grid Setup functions as it should. I've looked for items elsewhere in the menu that might correspond to the functions that I can't get to work. Maybe something is cancelling out their functionality? Can't see anything though that might be the culprit? Is anyone else out there having this problem? This has only arisen after I updated to the most recent firmware (2.2). I can't quite remember though if the missing horizon/level gauge immediately went away directly after the firmware's installation.

Is there any setting that would show what Leica CL User Profile is set to on the LCD screen rather than having to menu dive. Thank you. Cheers, Terry

Hello everyone, I have just now added a Leica CL to my Leica SL kit, using R, M and L lenses. I used the "Search" function of the forum, but came up empty. The CL manual states that the camera accepts UHS-2 SD cards (as it must!) but does it actually use the increased throughput of the UHS-2 cards? Thanks in advance. Guy

It's been a long time since I've posted. But here's a shot from a recent trip to Turkey. For this trip —six weeks in Europe, with stops in Poland, Spain, and Turkey— I left behind my M240 and decided to only travel with the CL and the 18-56mm lens (I also brought my Voigtlander f1.1 M lens, but I never put it on the CL). While my first thought was to just travel with the M240 —I go back and forth on the idea of selling the CL and the two lenses I have for it, the 18-56mm and the 55-135mm— I decided to see if I could live with just the CL. I definitely missed my M, but I have to say that I kind of liked having autofocus. Anyway, one night, my ladyfriend and I headed over to Sirkeci station to catch the Dervish show. Over my years of travel to Turkey, I've caught a dervish show at three different venues, and Sirkeci remains my favorite. Thanks for looking, Santiago

I just purchased a CL (coming from a Nikon 35mm film system) and am looking for a good starting point for setting up profiles. I've seen reference to Jono's recommendations but for the life of me cannot locate the actual settings. Any suggestions here?

Hi all, I've done a bit of back-pedalling, looking for a similar question here, but having found none, I'm somewhat confident this hasn't been answered before. So, hopefully, some of you may be able to provide an answer. What I'm trying to achieve: Using the EVF, I'd like to be able to use my right thumb to touch the LCD and focus; ideally using Touch AF + Release mode. Naturally, I've tried setting the CL to Touch AF / Touch AF + Release, tried EVF-LCD Auto / Extended, but, of course, to no avail. Am I missing something or is Touch AF limited to LCD mode only?

Hey All! I just published a review of the Leica CL on my website, and shotkit.com http://www.romeobravophoto.com/leica-cl-review/ I'm really enjoying this little gem!

Hi all, I have a problem with some of the photos from my Leica CL/Leitz Minolta CL (M-Rokkor-QF lens). About a third to half of the photos have this strange faint (and sometimes darker) black shadow. It's always in the same spot at the top of the photo and it also shows on the negatives/slides. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Is this some sort of fogging maybe? Or a light leak? Thanks, Eran.

I used to use an M240 and an M9 before that, however I was finding that when on holiday with family and young children I just couldn't manual focus fast enough and kept missing moments, or missing focus, so I decided to switch to an SL with the 24-90mm to get the benefits of autofocus (and to save some lens swapping). I love the SL. The 24-90mm is so versatile that I've found to my surprise I don't even really use my old M lenses any more. In fact I think I'll be selling my M lenses. However, after a year with the SL, and taking it on holiday over the summer, I have one misgiving which is the weight. I switched from a shoulder strap to a hand strap which helped a lot, but even so I can't say I relish the thought of carrying it around all day when heading out on a trip. I was thinking that a CL might be a great compromise. I'd probably get the 18-56mm and the 35mm f/1.4 to start with, but only take one of those out with me. I'd have to sell the SL as I'd find it hard to justify having both, but I might keep the 24-90mm to try on the CL and just in case I regret the change in the future. The CL photos posted on this forum look fantastic, somewhat alleviating my worries about going down to an APS-C sensor. I'll miss being able to back-button focus, but I think I'll adapt. However I've read the forum posts saying that the SL (and the Q) really are a step up in quality compared to the CL, which makes me nervous. Has anyone else here downsized from the SL? Any regrets?

Presently I own the Leica M262, Q and CL. I've been wondering if I should pull the trigger and get an M10. But I'm not sure if there will be a significant difference with image quality, when comparing it against the Q and/or CL. I absolutely love the Q and haven't put much time into the CL - other than the lack of battery life I like. When I look at photos from others, I have to remember they are posting their very best images and most include some post work. I'm not a professional and I am new to the Leica family. Just hopeful to get a variety of feedback from those who might have different levels of experience and knowledge. Thank you

Dear Leica-Enthusiasts, I have been shooting with the Leica CL since a few months now and always use M lenses with the Leica and Novoflex adapters. However, over these last months I have noticed that lens-adapter-camera combination is not completely rigid. I can now slightly rotate the mount back and forth. It does not seem to affect the IQ but I am worried that it might loosen even more. Has anyone had similar experiences? I will probably just send it in to Wetzlar... Mika

Looking at a preowned CL. Anybody know how to bring up the shutter count? Appreciate it.

My CL didn't switch automatically between LCD and EVF any more, so I sent it in. As it turned out, the eye-sensor had shifted. Given that the camera just returned from a trip through Tanzania in rather adverse conditions, it was not pristine to put it mildly when sent in and it had received a couple of shrewd knocks, so it came as no surprise that Leica refused guaranty. I did protest gently, but success could not be expected. Anyway, the estimate came to 375 Euro, which I of course accepted. However, just now, the camera was evidently opened up for repair and CS revised the cost to 135 Euro. I find that really honest and customer-friendly.
