  1. Over the last months, I got to know my TL2 quite well. And overall, I am very pleased with the results that I get. Sometimes the TL2 firmware is not well behaved, but I found a workaround that I can live with for most issues. Now, because I use lots of M and R lenses on both my SL and TL2, I finally caved in and bought a M-L adapter. Until now, I was using a mechanical adapter, but both SL and TL2 will not record any lens profile to EXIF, even if you choose one. On my SL, I can see all profiles available for M and R lenses. On my TL2 (firmware 1.5) I never saw such a list. Thinking it must be because I do not have the native M-L adapter, and knowing the info will not be saved anyway, I did not bother. Now, WITH the native Leica M-L adapter, the TL2 still not shows any list for the M lens profiles ?! Any coded M lens is registered correctly, but I would like to chose the profile manually like I can on my SL for my uncoded lenses. Am I missing something here?
  2. hello TL/CL owners, Firstly, thank you for all your threads - I’ve learnt a lot by reading through them. I’m new to the system, indeed, to a serious camera such as the TL2 that I recently picked up at a good price, after years of admiring from a distance. I wasn’t aware that it had been discontinued. However, this forum has assured me that it remains a decent option that continues to have mileage. My only other experience with Leica was a D-Lux 4 back in 2009. It has always been my intention to familiarise myself with the variables, such as aperture, ISO, shutter speed, etc. But I never really progressed beyond Automatic Focus. Committing myself to the TL2 meant that I had to understand all this. The camera body on its own isn’t sufficient; I needed a lens, obviously. The Leica store in London signposted me to MPB and I picked up a Vario-Elmar TL 18-56mm, f.3.5-5.6 ASPH lens in decent condition and for an accessible price. I figured that this would be a good start point to get familiar with the camera. And it is. Took it with me to Marrakech recently and enjoyed playing with it; although got a sense of its limitations, too. The more I read up on the Summilux TL 35mm, f.1.4 ASPH lens, the more I wondered if this would be the better option if I had to limit myself to one lens. Certainly, there’s a thread dedicated to this topic. One came up on eBay recently and I bought it. Now I need to decide if I trade in the Vario-Elmar for, say, a Visoflex viewfinder. Admittedly, not the most crucial addition for a TL camera but I’d feel bad having used the 18-56mm and then returning it for a full refund. Aesthetically, the Summilux is a stunner, isn’t it. It’s also significantly heavier/ bulkier than the Vario-Elmar. I guess that I’d gotten used to the latter when on that recent trip. My question is, can the Summilux do everything that the Vario-Elmar does? Or does the latter, which has a smaller form, and is therefore lighter - have any advantage over the Summilux? The reason I ask what may be an obvious answer to the more experienced photographer is that I took a photo with both lenses last night and feel that the Vario-Elmar provides more detail than the Summilux (3rd pic below; first two are the 35mm). It may be that I need to understand how to use the Summilux better. I’d love to keep both but can’t afford to. Your thoughts/ insights, etc; would be much appreciated.
  3. I am interested I purchasing my first Leica and have my eye on a T body which I can get for a reasonable price. The lenses are rather expensive and currently out of my budget. Would you be able to recommend alternative lenses or ways to use lenses on the T for someone on a budget? Thanks
  4. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1450274-REG/7artisans_photoelectric_a505b_55mm_f1_4_lens_for.html anyone get a chance to play around with one of these yet?
  5. Yes I proudly bought a T in 2019. This is why. What's good : IQ 16MP without AA is very very sharp. Ultra fast startup time, faster than Q or CL. Crazy. Full USB camera ! No need to remove SD card and battery. Everything through any USB cable : charging and downloading files. So nice to be able to use any external battery on the go. AF is fast in good light. OK in dim situations. But nothing like Q or CL. Face detect AF works well, do not hesitate to use it. The digital distance scale is genius. Therefore only T, TL and TL2 can use TL lenses in hyperfocal ! So no AF problem at, because no focusing is faster than any AF. Yeah ! CL has to use adapted M lenses to do so. APO-Macro-Elmarit-TL 60mm is now usable in MF mode. Good pop up flash (as good as such tiny flash can be) Totally usable, nice flash metering, no red eye (no need to activate red eye mode, nice) and no washout face. So high ISO problem mostly solved. I even like its results better than my SF-40, because T's flash is more consistent. Better handhold ability, thanks to 16MP sensor. Therefore you can choose confidently to shoot at 2x speed against focal length. Q 2x is possible but not reliable so I stick to 1/125sec. CL needs 3x Extremely good looking and wonderful build quality. Nothing is nicer. On par with Leica M10. Way better than already superb Q and CL. Best ergonomics : easy flash access, touch screen menus are excellent, double scroll wheel are very efficient. And excellent grip design. Way better than Ms, Q, CL or SL. Within dry hands it is not slippery at all. I love it. No need for stupid optional SD+battery blocking handgrip. Removable strap lugs. I can use it confidently without any strap. I also remove strap lugs for better design and ergonomics Awesome battery life for a mirrorless. No need for second battery. Double battery life than CL. Even when using flash third of the time. And battery latch is genius. Battery charger with integrated plugs is the best of all Leica external charger. Huge touch screen is nice, I didn't thought I would like it better than CL, Q or M10 menus. It is different and I love it. Easiest menus in industry. Thinner and sleeker than CL. Slips more easily in jacket pocket. Life saving internal memory. Though quite slow What's not so good : High ISO is not Q or CL level. Nice until 6400. Use flash for dimmer places. Operationally it's a mixed bag. Very fast startup and wake up time. No shutter lag. But half sec blackout. Touch operations should be faster. T is very usable, but not as fast as Q or CL. Can get quite cold when used in minus 0°C weather. Yes it is a pure block of aluminium. Video quality is very bad in low light. Video AF hunts too much. Almost useless when light is lacking. SD card is hard to remove Buffer is too small Stupid no DNG mode only Firmware bug : impossible to deactivate auto review No exposure preview. So you have to rely on auto preview to check exposure. Left it at 1 sec. T is so good, that I should have considering a TL2 instead of a CL. So far I happy to have the T as a backup for my CL. If you find one cheap, do not hesitate, it worths it. This is a rolling review in progress. So more to come.
  6. I recently purchased a Q2 and subsequently decided to sell my T, T2 and lenses. The equipment is without any scratches or blemishes and works flawlessly. I got a quote from Adorama and based on that reasonable offer decided to send them my gear. Now they are reducing their offer by a third after having the equipment in their possession. I'm waiting to hear back from someone at Adorama after complaining. I'm feeling stuck. Any recommendations?
  7. Hi, Maybe the future of the CL and TL2 will be the same sensor of the Sony alpha 7C: compact camera, full frame and 24 MP? There are also rumors of an SL2-S with this specs so it can be the end of the CL and TL lineup? Currently I have a T and I'm worried if upgrade to a TL2 for Black Friday or wait.. I will be happy to uprade for the extra megapixels of the TL2 but there are some cons for the fact that with the same sensor the pixels are smaller? Happy if anyone can help with my decision
  8. Do L-Mount lens from Sigma or Panasonic work with the original T (typ 701) ? I use the camera as a backup to my CL with the variety of TL lenses or adapted lenses. I might be looking into a Panasonic for high res-images. The Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 is a favored lens I'm looking at, but there are others I might look at.
  9. After lots of discussion about future of APS-C. How many of you think that the real reason for CL/TL being held back is the lack of native lenses ? A little history : - 2014 : T was released with two lenses : 18-56mm f/3.5-5.6 & 23mm f/2.0 - 2015 : Then two more with 11-23mm f/3.5-4.5 & 55-135mm f/3.5-4.5 - 2016 : Leica release the only two made in Germany TL lenses : 35mm f/1.4 & macro 60mm f/2.8 - 2017 : CL was released with 18mm f/2.8 pancake lens Leica were on a good track, 1 or 2 TL lenses per year. But after 2017 ? Nothing happened at all ! We should have 10 to 14 lenses by now. Not 7. Only 1 fast lens. Only a trinity of slow zoom lenses. Only 2 compact prime lenses. None of them have OIS. None of the bodies have IBIS. No portrait lens, aka equivalent to fast 85/90mm or 70-200mm f/2.8. No fast wide angle. ex : equivalent to fast 18/21mm. These lens cannot be replaced with any adapted M and R lenses. So what’s the problem here ? Leica may think that APS-C line do not sell well enough. So they stop releasing new lenses ? It is a kind a vicious cercle. But no new lens = death of the system. Just like they left the S line died by releasing only bare minimum body upgrade and no new lenses for half a decade. So what do you think about this situation ?
  10. Don‘t know how others fell. But just saw that there is a new Firmware for the CL but nothing for the TL2 and this since a while. Communications turn primarily around CL. Is the T-series dead?
  11. Hi. I've just found this forum last night. Nice to meet you all. I have LEICA TL2 with 18-56 kit lens. I used LUMIX before so I'm quite new with Leica please suggest me. 1. My photos with Leica TL2 (auto focus) some are quite soft at focus. Right now, I use spot focus > half press > adjust the composition and press the shutter. Some photo is OK. Some is out of focus. Please suggest me about how I should do with setting autofocus/shutter mode (touch af/spot etc. and AFS or AFC). Is it a must to use manual focus? If you have any technics to share, please teach me. 2. I'm interested to buy a fixed lens. I prefered the light-weighted and compact lens for travelling and capture everyday's life. I'm comparing between Sigma 30 mm. or Leica TL 23 mm. Which one you guys recommended? I really love the Leica neutral color that I took with 18-56 kit lens (as photo that I attached). Leica lens might be the same result, however, sigma seems easier to use. I'm not sure if I use Sigma lens, it will effect with the color tone or not. If anyone who use TL2 and have these lenses, please post your photos (with neutral color must be very very appreciated). I'm waiting for you all reply. Please share what you think and suggest me. Thank you in advance.
  12. i have the lumix s-50mm, i use it with the SL with excellent results. By curiosity I mounted it on the CL and the battery does not like this lens at all and drains very quickly. The firmware is 4.0... Mounted on the TL2, it is particularly noisy, the diaphragm works permanently as with the 23 summicron but scratching a bit... I'm interested to have your feedback on these 2 points.
  13. Mike Johnston at TheOnlinePhotographer blog has been musing about the perfect 'simple' digital camera again, and I can't help thinking that a Leica T(L/2) fits his description perfectly - if only he (and his readers) knew it. He acknowledges that Leica is the only camera company embracing photographic simplicity, but the spectre of Leica prices keeps coming back - both in the blog posts and the comments - and the only cameras they seem to acknowledge are the M-series. To me, the menu system in the Leica T is the most intuitive and minimal interface that's possible in an advanced digital camera - especially the way that each user can choose their own subset of visible menu items: I have only 4 items in that menu, and regularly only use one of them (the metering type). Nowadays the T can be bought for less than a Fuji XE3. You can even pair it with an adapter for non-Leica manual lenses (ie: Olympus OM). Couldn't be simpler or cheaper. Incidentally, one of the points being missed in a lot of the comments on TOP's site is the scenario where the user changes a setting on a camera unintentionally. A lot of the commenters say it's easy to just ignore menus and settings they don't understand. But this was one of the problems I persistently had with my X100 - I'd pick it up after a long hiatus and somehow an exposure or other setting had been inadvertently changed, and it would first take me a while to notice, and then usually a long time to fix (hunting through tens of menus). And I'm an app developer, so used to device complexity. The T has solved all those problems perfectly.
  14. Hello I currently have a Leica TL2 using a adaptor for a M mount lens . I want to get a auto focus lens that will work with the TL2, I just don’t want to spend 1,500.00+ At the moment. Do I have any options ?
  15. Because the Leica T M-adapter is an order item in Stockholm, I can’t try one before buying. I like the T, but not being certain of focus in low-light situations is occasionally irritating. And the Novoflex doesn’t have focus-zoom assistance. If you have the Leica M-adapter, how do you use it? Is it possible to zoom in, check focus, then zoom out again to compose your image? How’s the zoomed image? Sharp and detailed, or noisy and blurred? What options are available for the dials in manual mode? Right now, the left-hand dial is wasted on f-stop (which is disabled with M-lenses attached, of course). Does the Leica adapter free the dial for something useful? In general, is it much more useful than the third-party adapters? Does the camera-system adapt to it intelligently, or is it a missed opportunity? PS: I saw Jono Slack’s review of the T, where he dismisses the adapter as less than useful. I wonder if firmware updates or other factors have given anyone another perspective?
