  1. Hi! I have 3 older Leica's that I inherited from my grandfather. I have been trying to look up the value and the best place to sell them in the Netherlands but I am a bit lost. I have a Leica CL with a summicron-c 1:2/40 and an Elmar-c lens I have a Leica II mini and a Leica D.R.P. Ernst Leitz Wetzlar No 508566 Elmar1:3,5 All are working and in perfect condition, including original user manuals. Can someone advice me what the best place is to go and maybe give an estimation of what I can ask for these cameras? I also have a few Leica books, I would like to know the best place to sell these as well. Thank you so much in advance! Sara
  2. Hi everyone, I'm currently working on a project to once and for all fix the analogue Leica CL's broken take up spool problem, by 3D printing them. I've ran a roll through mine with version 2 of the spool and it works pretty good, but i'm working on version 3 which should be better still - I got the dimensions slightly wrong on this one - it's too short. How many of you CL owners would be interested in buying such an item? They'd cost around £20 and be sold through eBay all said and done, and I'd make a video showing how to take apart the CL and install them, as well as reassembly - International shipping would happen too through the eBay GSP as I'm UK based. The attached photo is version 2 and not by any means the final version as this is still in very early development, but the quality of the ones that go on sale will be much higher. This one was printed by a friend of mine, but I'm soon going to acquire my own printer and make them much better. I know also that this doesn't look anything like the original, but when I copied the original part dimension for dimension, curve by curve, it didn't work and suffered the same problems as the original.. immediately. Thus I simplified it and made it more "3D Printer friendly." Thanks Tom
  3. Hi all! I have been testing the Commlite CM-EF-L autofocus adapter with several Canon EF lenses on my Leica CL, and I am glad to report that it works. As expected, AF-C and focus tracking is not supported, but the AF-S works reasonably well. Focusing speed and precision with most lenses is at almost native T/TL lenses level. So: -AF-S works (no tracking). Touch AF also works. -IS with Canon stabilized lenses works. -EXIF data is transferred correctly to the files, save for the F/1.2 that is reported as F/1.3 (something I had already seen with other third party AF adapters on Sony cameras). I used A and M modes, on Firmware 4.0. Adapter firmware is upgradeable via an USB port on the adapter itself. There are no new FW listed on Commlite’s site, and it worked right out of the box. The lenses that I tested, and worked, so far are: 14/2.8L-II, 16-35/4L-IS, 24/2.8 IS, 24/1.4L-II, 40/2.8 STM, 50/1.2L, 50/2.5 compact macro (with and without the Lifesize 1:1 converter), 85/1.2L-II and 100/2 USM. The only glitch I have experienced is that Battery level is not correctly reported to the camera, and the first time I mounted the adapter on the CL, I got a warning message about the “Camera possibly not displaying reliable battery charge levels with this lens” that did not repeat. In fact, after a hundred exposures with different lenses, the battery appeared as depleted. The workaround I found was shutting down the camera, taking off the battery, mount a native TL lens, put again the battery in and the charge was there again, correctly reported at about 2 / 3. During next week I will try to test the adapter with more Canon FF lenses, and EF-S APSc lenses. I am very interested to see how the compact EF-S 10/18 zoom and EF-S pancake 24/2.8 perform on the CL. So, after all the let down expectatives we CL users held on the MC-21 adapter by Sigma, I am glad to share that there’s still a light on the path to use many more lenses options!
  4. Hello, I recently had the chance to get a Leica CL + 18mm f2.8 in good conditions at a very good price. I already have a Sony A7C, but I wanted to try this little Leica and (maybe) make the switch between them. I am loving the CL, it has a good IQ, it is more pocketable and I am getting good results in testing it (though I think I would exchange the 18mm with the 23mm in the future, and get a zoom). My only worry is that the CL is not wheather sealed and I don't really know how it could manage some trips I have planned for next year, especially a trip to Lapland to see the aurora borealis. Has anyone tried the camera in cold temperatures or does anyone have this kind of travelling experience with the CL? I am loving the it, but if it's not a camera I can use (also) in this kind of trips I am afraid I'll have to keep the A7C and sell the CL. Unfortunately I can't keep both. Thanks everybody!
  5. Does anyone have a disassembly video for the Leica CL? There’s a hair inside my EVF, and I’d like to open it up and clean it myself. I’ve already removed the back cover, but I’m not sure how to proceed with further disassembly.
  6. I would like to share my experience with the Leica CL after one year of use. The first idea was to find a replacement for my Canon 6D after 6 years of loyal service. Why change to a Leica CL, you ask? - To gain in size and weight and really take my camera everywhere. - to benefit from EVF technology - to make full use of the lenses of my Leica T, which I love but is not the most efficient camera available. - to use my M lenses much more easily than with the T. - to finally have a single ecosystem The observation is simple: the CL is an excellent daily camera especially with the Zoom 18-56 mm, when the light is there ... - The EVF is of good quality. - The image quality is very good, as is the ISO management. - The weight and size are very nice. - The Thumb support greatly improves ergonomics and allows to limit the movement of the focus slider. - Only the autonomy is a real weak point and 2-3 batteries are essential. - Wifi is very slow and for my part almost unusable, I don't have enough patience ! Concerning the TL lenses, I am more reserved : The Elmarit-18mm was part of the kit, I will discard it because I'm not too comfortable with this focal length, but the image quality is good and I recommend it to anyone who likes to shoot with 28mm. The Zoom 11-23 is very good, the color rendering is excellent, but for specific and occasional use. I only use it very rarely. For my use, the zoom 18-56mm at my preference on the CL, the quality is good, and the weight perfect. It is really the ideal partner of this camera because it is very versatile. I don't need the 55-135mm zoom and haven't tried it. (Same for the Elmarit TL 60mm) The fact remains that, at this stage, a luminous lens is missing, a real all-purpose optic, usable indoors and for street photography : I used the TL-35mm for a few months, but I didn't keep it. The lens is heavy and the 50mm is not my favorite focal length. But clearly the image quality is superb. The Summicron TL- 23mm, which I had with the T, I didn't have a very good experience with it and I sold it. But here it is, 35mm is still my favorite focal length and one year after selling the TL-23mm, I ended up buying one to give it/me another chance. What motivated me besides the very low price at which it is possible to find it in new condition, is the fact that it is possible to use it with the SL, of course with a reduced resolution but what a result! So much so that I don't think I'll go for the Sigma 45mm for the SL. Whether with the CL or the SL, we are very close to the Summicron-M 35mm. This brings us to the use of the CL with the M lenses : The use is simple and efficient, the quality of the images is up to the M. An advantage is also that an M 50mm becomes a 75mm, ideal focal length for portraits. On the other hand, I much prefer the ergonomics provided by the SL for the use of the M optics (the EVF and the joystick really make the difference). To sum up, I will continue to use with pleasure the Leica CL with the 18-56mm zoom and the 23mm to have a light and luminous equipment if needed and hope to have a software improvement of the WIFI.
  7. Greetings! Anyone tried to use the little flash unique that comes with the Leica D-Lux 7 package on a Leica CL body? Would that be compatible? (just for fill flash purpose)
  8. My CL didn't switch automatically between LCD and EVF any more, so I sent it in. As it turned out, the eye-sensor had shifted. Given that the camera just returned from a trip through Tanzania in rather adverse conditions, it was not pristine to put it mildly when sent in and it had received a couple of shrewd knocks, so it came as no surprise that Leica refused guaranty. I did protest gently, but success could not be expected. Anyway, the estimate came to 375 Euro, which I of course accepted. However, just now, the camera was evidently opened up for repair and CS revised the cost to 135 Euro. I find that really honest and customer-friendly.
  9. Dear Leica-Enthusiasts, I have been shooting with the Leica CL since a few months now and always use M lenses with the Leica and Novoflex adapters. However, over these last months I have noticed that lens-adapter-camera combination is not completely rigid. I can now slightly rotate the mount back and forth. It does not seem to affect the IQ but I am worried that it might loosen even more. Has anyone had similar experiences? I will probably just send it in to Wetzlar... Mika
  10. It's been a long time since I've posted. But here's a shot from a recent trip to Turkey. For this trip —six weeks in Europe, with stops in Poland, Spain, and Turkey— I left behind my M240 and decided to only travel with the CL and the 18-56mm lens (I also brought my Voigtlander f1.1 M lens, but I never put it on the CL). While my first thought was to just travel with the M240 —I go back and forth on the idea of selling the CL and the two lenses I have for it, the 18-56mm and the 55-135mm— I decided to see if I could live with just the CL. I definitely missed my M, but I have to say that I kind of liked having autofocus. Anyway, one night, my ladyfriend and I headed over to Sirkeci station to catch the Dervish show. Over my years of travel to Turkey, I've caught a dervish show at three different venues, and Sirkeci remains my favorite. Thanks for looking, Santiago
  11. Brand new option for CL with firmware 3.1 : always ON touch focus. Such as found with the Q2. Is a total mess with the CL. The CL screen is to close to the palm. And it always registers new focus point at the far upper or lower right corners. Way worst than wandering focus point. It makes the CL almost unusable !
  12. Hello everyone, I have just now added a Leica CL to my Leica SL kit, using R, M and L lenses. I used the "Search" function of the forum, but came up empty. The CL manual states that the camera accepts UHS-2 SD cards (as it must!) but does it actually use the increased throughput of the UHS-2 cards? Thanks in advance. Guy
  13. You Tube VideoHello everyone! I am back with another mod. This time I converted my Leica CL into a full spectrum camera to use it for infrared photography. Here is a time-lapse video. I will soon post some photos from the camera. Hope you like it. Video
  14. Hmmm! I have just spent nearly an hour trying to resize each of five photos to fit as close to the .49MB limit as possible. The first two I have posted look terrible compared to the originals. There must be a better way. If there are instructions on the forum on how to do this better, could someone point them to me please? I wont post any more pics until I get this figured out properly.
  15. Has anyone experimented with mounting the 28PC R lens on the CL with the R adapter? While the crop makes it say 42mm equivalent, would it also have extended shift due to the smaller sensor? I think it shifts some 12mm, and that might be pretty interesting.
  16. Help! I changed the SD card in my CL. It felt a bit solid as I pushed, so tried to take it out again. No luck. It’s stuck. On the plus side, it is working. But that’s not really the point! Has this happened to anyone else? Easy solution possible?
  17. Hi, I'm interesting in new Ricoh GR III recently, and I just know that it has a so called "Snap Focus" mode, I wonder is there a way to let CL do that? I've tried setting the Right Wheel Button to Focus Mode and it's fine, but when I switched to AF and focus to shoot, then switched back to MF, I had to refocus the manual focus ring to the focus distance I was set. Is there a way to let CL remember my pre-setted focus distance when switch between AF and MF?
  18. Can anyone advise of a wide angle for the cl ? Via adapters?
  19. Has anyone used Auto-ISO enough to note whether the CL exhibits a stock preference to either shutter speed or ISO speed, or is it so damn smart it automagically knows which you would wish to be quicker? For example, when moving from indoor to strong sunlight and back again, setting at ISO max 6400, with a shutter minimum of 1/60s in AP mode you might expect sharp images with manageable noise all the time, but is it truly pot luck shot to shot which variable the camera changes to correct exposure? Is it true to say the function produces consistent results with only a "short range" set, if so what have you found to be acceptable? Three question marks in one post, sorry about that.
  20. Hi all, I am retiring in two months from my long career as a nuclear engineer, and treated myself to some quality equipment to reconnect to my old love of photography. I bought my first camera, a Minolta XGM after I graduated from college in 1982. Used the heck out of that thing, but ultimately replaced it with the Minolta Maxim 7000. I loved the whole auto focus and auto film advance, lol, and even started a weekend wedding business and developed the film myself. Shooting weddings ultimately paid for all my gear, yee ha! But then I had kids, and I set my cameras down except for family photos. Fast forward to the digital age and I picked up a Nikon D7000, 2010 I think it was, and really enjoyed the whole world of 16 mp digital pictures, but I never really got the bug again like I had in the 80s. But now, faced with the eternal question of what the heck should I do in retirement, I decided to come back to pictures. So, in the past three weeks I bought the CL kit bundle with the TL 18mm lens (27mm equivalent), the TL 35 (52mm) and the TL 60mm macro (90mm equivalent). I am done buying lenses, at least for this year! I have used the 18mm the most, think DC cherry blossoms, its just so handy. I got the 60mm macro last week and have enjoyed the macro mode shooting spring flowers and the like with it, also did some portraits of family members that came out nicely. Just today I got the 35mm from the Leica store here in DC. So have not used it yet other than a couple of test shots in the store to be sure it was working. Why did I buy Leica? I thought about a lot of cameras, and nearly pulled the trigger on the Fuji GFX system. But the more I thought about it, I really wanted a small system I could carry everywhere. Even with all 3 lenses and the body, my bag contents only weigh 4 pounds. And if I decide to just roll with the 18mm, then I don't even need a bag... that is amazing! I plan to travel extensively in my retirement, so I valued light weight and image quality above everything else. I wanted auto focus and a good lens selection to boot. I thought about all the major APSC cameras out there, for the smaller size benefits, and compared many review sites and user comments in various forums. I held all the cameras in consideration in my hands before I plunked down my cash. For me, in my situation, the CL was the winning camera. I didn't care it wasn't the newest. I didn't care it wasn't the cheapest (LOL). I didn't care that video was rudimentary. All I cared about were the aesthetics of the Lecia CL system and the images I saw being generated with the CL on this forum and others. I have had no buyers remorse, except for some troublesome thoughts that I may need a video oriented camera to supplement the CL at some point, but that is a worry for another day. Take care all.
  21. To minimize the changing of lenses, thinking of a "second CL body"... although from reading many other reviews and user comments, the CL could have some improvements... Thinking how long before Leica may come out with a new "CL-2" ... (somewhat like the "Q2" now replaced the "Q") ?
  22. Hi all! Apologies in advance for the length of this post! I was wondering if you all are able to give me some advice or words of wisdom on whether I should get a Rangefinder Leica. At the moment I’m currently using and enjoying my Leica CL & 23mm f2 Summicron. Purchased in Oct 2018. I absolutely love shooting with the CL and for me it was the upgrade I was always wanting. I even adapt some rare and unique vintage m42 lenses to it and get some amazing results. Now I’m no professional photographer, just a hobby shooter but the Leica CL I have had really developed my love and passion for photography. At the time of purchasing the CL I was using a Nikon D7500 which I still have (but never use) so for me, at the time the CL was the next step up, and I never thought of going for a rangefinder (couldn’t afford the m10 and lenses anyway lol). But now having visited the Sydney Leica store on many occasions to try out the M10 and the rangefinder systems, I’ve grown more interest for a Rangefinder. I’m interested in the M240, maybe the M262. I like the appeal of a brassing body though (a bit of individualism I’d say). But honestly I’m not sure which system to go for (and I don’t have the money for a new M10). What are the PROS and CONS for each system? What makes you want to stay with that system? (if you have one) what would you recommend I do or go for? Now I’ve done heaps of research and reviews on both systems but I really want to hear from everyday people who use them. Thanks!
  23. Hi, I am in the fortunate position of travelling to South Africa (near Cape Town). Photography is not the purpose of the trip but it would be ‘rude’ not to take a camera. I have a cl, which I am excited about. It is a recent purchase with the kit 18mm lens. It replaces my Fuji x100t which I really enjoyed but I wanted to be able to change lens’ and I preferred the cl to Fuji x-pro 3. i just like having a camera in my jacket pocket, hence the 18mm. Physical, it makes the cl very similar to the X-100 series. Now for the questions: Is the 23 Summicron significantly better quality than the 18mm (I cant find the physical length lens so will pop into shop to see)? Is the APO-VARIO-ELMAR-TL 55-135MM considered to have a ‘good’ IQ? Should I be looking at other L-Mount lens? I have a SL2 and the 35mm Summicron, the 24-90 and an underused Sigma 14-24, but I would rather travel with something more compact and in line with the cl. The photography I like is mainly landscape but of course, a bit of street and social photography too. Thank you for your help in advance.
  25. Hi everyone! Nice to finally make the decision to join this community. I made the switch to Leica from Nikon last year when I purchased the CL with a 23mm Summicron f2. I absolutely love the camera and the setup for the type of photography I do. at the moment, my current setup is the CL with a f/1.4 Super Takuma 50mm (thorium glass model).
