Hi - Curious if anyone is aware of this issue. I have the camera set to record in DNG and JPEG, however, when I export into Lightroom, I only have the DNG files. I've tried changing SD cards and yes, of course, I've triple checked I'm saving both DNG & JPEG. Has anyone else run into this issue? Thanks!

Hi Everyone , I have found on Ebay this eyecup that solves the problem of extrenuous light that can leak into the viewfinder that can be distracting. I seem to have this problem a lot ,not sure if it is because I shoot left eyed but this fixes the problem. I have read some people have had problems with the rubber surround getting damaged or needing replacement .This fits perfect over the outer viewfinder so instead of replacing the whole viewfinder unit this would solve the problem cheaply. The eyecup is advertised for Q3 but it fits perfectly on Q2. Cost was around $30 Australian. Sowohl hier im Forum als auch im echten Leben taucht immer mal wieder die Frage auf, ob sich die Q3 auch als Portrait-Kamera eignet. Sie ist mit 28mm Brennweite dafür sicher nicht prädestiniert. Dass sie gleichwohl in der Lage ist, schöne Menschenbilder zu produzieren, möchte ich hier nach und nach zeigen: mal in Farbe, mal in Schwarzweiß, mal im Studio, mal Outdoor, mal spontan, mal gestellt - aber immer Q3 und regelmäßig (leicht) bearbeitet in Lightroom. Hallo zusammen, da ich den neuen SmallRig Handgriff für die Q3 nun mehrere Wochen testen konnte und damit sehr zufrieden bin, dachte ich mir, ich poste hier mal ein paar Bilder. Vorweg, sorry für die Bildqualität, es sind Handybilder die unter mäßigen Lichtbedingungen entstanden sind 😉. Ich hatte vorher den Handgriff von JJC an der Q3, der rech ordentlich ist, v.a. für den Preis. Ich hatte damit jedoch immer das Problem, dass mir der Griff zu klein war. Der neue Handgriff von SmallRig ist aus Titan und geht etwas weiter nach oben. Damit bietet er mir mehr Grifffläche, die mit einem Silikonmaterial überzogen ist und sehr gut zur Q3 passt. Der untere Teil bietet eine Arca-Swiss-kompatible Aufnahme und kann direkt mit entsprechenden Stativen verwendet werden.

I just added the Leica grip, and two days later, the Q3 battery is drained. I recharge it, the scenario repeats. I remove the grip, repeat the process. The battery holds the charge normally. I added a thin PVC pad between the camera contacts and the grip base. No more issues, but no more wireless charging! Is there a solution to restore normal 100% Leica device functionality? -
How can I turn off the little light on the front of the Q3 28? It used to be off, but now it sends its orange light and disturbs the subject, me behind the camera and the people in front in night and day shots. Quite annoying.

I picked up this Hoage square hood off Amazon. I was concerned with the fit because the description said for the Q3 43 but I figured for the price, I'd try it and if it didn't fit I could return it. The hood does fit and there's no issue with vignetting or with the macro setting. It threaded in just fine. So, if you're like me and prefer the square hood but also like the brassy bronze look, the Hoage may be ideal for you, too.

Hallo zusammen, ich habe mir gerade nach dem FW-Update (auf 3.0.0) über die Fotos-App drei (für mich neue, ich glaube aber, die gibt es schon eine Weile) Leica Looks heruntergeladen: brass, eternal und chrome. Wenn ich diese jedoch einstelle, bekomme ich im Sucher, auf dem Display und als Ergebnis bei allen dreien nur jeweils den exakt gleichen Schwarz-weiß-Look (mit leichtem Sepia-Stich) und nicht den jeweils in der App vor dem Download angezeigten Look. Die Leica Looks, die ich gleich nach dem Kauf heruntergeladen habe (classic, blue, contemporary), funktionieren allerdings wie bisher einwandfrei. (Es könnte natürlich mit dem FW-Update zu tun haben. Ich habe die drei Looks leider erst danach heruntergeladen, dewegen kann ich das nicht nachvollziehen.) Hat jemand eine Idee, wie man das beheben kann? -
The items discussed here has been (separately) seen on this forum, but a direct comparison has never been done. For quite obvious reason (the possibility of and easy mount of filters, especially PL) I would like to replace the original Q3 hood with a vented one. Excluding a priori both the original Leica as well the Overgaard for their insane price (I can't see a real justification for that madness), the remaining possibilities looks like to be two: JJC and Haoge. (The ideal would be if someone had had the opportunity to compare both them directly, but this, frankly, seems quite unlikely to me) What do you think about these hoods? I know that a lot of people use the shutter release funtion on the Leica app but I was wondering if there are any Leica or aftermarket remote releses that work with the q3

Can anyone recommend a wrist strap for the Q3 43 that doen't rely on metal rings/triangles? Peak Design is not an option for me as I don't want to force the anchors through the camera's lugs using dental floss. Thanks!

Hallo zusammen, ich hatte vor eineinhalb Wochen das Vergnügen, im Leica Store mit der Q3 herumzuspielen und mit dem Mitarbeiter ein wenig zu quatschen (um auszuloten, ob sich für mich ein Upgrade von der Q2 lohnt 😉). Er teilte mir unter anderem mit, dass bei geringeren Auflösungseinstellungen (36,5 oder 18,6 MP) jeweils eine gewisse Zahl Pixel des Sensors für die Aufnahme zusammengefasst werden. Daraufhin kam mir die Idee, dass sich dadurch ja eventuell die High-ISO-Performance bei den Auflösungen 36,5 oder 18,6 verbessern könnte (ist vielleicht naiv von mir). Der Mitarbeiter verneinte, sagte aber, dass, wenn man geringere Auflösungen einstellt (36,5 oder 18,6 MP) , "sich der Dynamikumfang um bis zu ca. 1-2 Blenden verbessern" würde. Ist natürlich nur eine vage Aussage (was auch an meiner vagen Erinnerungsleistung liegt, die mir meine Frau regelmäßig vorhält), aber um der Sache auf den Grund zu gehen...hier meine Frage: Hat mal einer der Early-Q3-Users getestet, ob durch die Einstellung 36,5 oder 18,6 MP (statt 60 MP) der Dynamikumfang oder generell die Low-Light-Fähigkeiten der Q3 besser werden? Vielen Dank für Eure Antworten/Einschätzungen. P.S.: Übrigens kann ich bestätigen, was jmschuh hier schon geschrieben hat: Das Klappdisplay, welchem ich ziemlich kritisch gegenüberstand, macht einen wirklich soliden Eindruck, welcher meine Bedenken weitestgehend zerstreut hat.

I currently have an SL2-S with a 24-90 Vario-Elmarit, a 16-28 Sigma, a 100-300 Lumix and a 105mm macro from Sigma. I am pretty pleased with this collection, which is reasonably comprehensive. I do, however, find myself hankering for a simpler setup, and I wonder if the Q3 may have at last provided that solution. The dilemma is, I cannot buy a Q3 without divesting myself of the SL2-S and all its lenses. I would be interested in the opinions of the group on this, and in particular one issue: With the much larger sensor -- current body has 24 Mpx, Q3 has 60 -- is it reasonable to hope to get away with cropping full-frame images to emulate longer lens coverage? And how far do you think one could go with that? An alternative, of course, would be to get a lesser mirrorless body and a long lens -- a Sony alpha of some kind perhaps. But in recent years I have become content with the IQ of my Leicas (serially, an M10, an SL and the current body) and am not eager to compromise. On the other hand, long-lens photography is a minor -- but significant -- part of my shooting regime. Undoubtedly others have thought about this, and with any luck will be willing to share their insight. If I were wealthy enough I'd simply buy a Q3 and break out my photography into two genres; alas, that is not an option. Thank you!

Hi everyone. Installed with no issues. Before updating firmware, saved "user profiles" to SD Card. Updated from firmware file on SD Card. I never update through the phone app. Paired again with Leica Fotos phone app. Imported "user profiles" from SD Card. Everything works fine for me so far. Hope everyone has no issues. Good luck!

I am thinking of buying a Leica Q3 even though I have the Leica M (MD) - which I am very happy with. But Q3 that's a COMPLETELY different camera. But Q3 has AF, Video and 28 too about 75(90) mm. This is the area I use the most on my M.(24mm-50mm) I don't want to go the SL route now but have the Canon RF because of the long telephoto lenses for bird photography AND amazingly fast AF. But I'm a little afraid that the Q3 will replace my M and it will collect dust. But Q3 + an M with 50mm Is there anyone thinking of doing the same or has done the same with the Q2 ?? (I am definitely not going to sell my M equipment) -
With the Q3 being brought to life today, a new question for many arise: Should I buy/sell the Q2M and get a Q3M instead? Personally I am still in doubt with the Q2: though perfect, it is 28mm, and though I really enjoy what people can do with this pov, I struggle. Besides, I don’t like the process of converting color to b/w, and prefer a monochrom instead. But then, I do like long exposure in colour: the Q3 can finally do this. I guess the Q2 needs to go, to be replaced by either a Q2M or may be wait for the Q3M, or may be the Q3 will be sufficient? Tell me, who is eagerly waiting for the Q3M?

Hallo, mal eine ganz einfache Frage. Bei einer 128GB SD zeigt mit die Q3 695 Bilder DNG + JPG in höchster Einstellung an. Nach 10% Abzug (Schönrechnerrei der Kartenhersteller) 128GB was der Realität entsprechen soll wären das 165MB für DNG + JPG. Im Schnitt komm ich auf ca. 100 MB. Was rechne ich falsch oder was rechnet die Q3 anders? Wieviel Bilder gehen real auf ein 128GB Karte. Gruss Martin -
An der einen oder anderen Stelle (auch hier im Forum) ist schon die Frage erörtert worden, ob die Q3 als Kamera für Portraits verwendet werden kann. Mit ihren 28mm Brennweite ist sie dafür sicher nicht prädestiniert, ich habe mir daher die Frage gestellt, was ich a) schon beim Portraitshooting und b) bei der Nachbearbeitung beachten muss, um zu halbwegs vernünftigen Bildern zu kommen. Bei der Aufnahme scheint mir zunächst entscheidend, nicht zu nah ans Model heranzugehen, um zu starke Verzerrungen zu vermeiden. Der Abstand sollte nach meiner Erfahrung auf jeden Fall mehr als 50cm betragen, besser sind 100cm oder mehr: die Q3 bietet ausreichend Möglichkeiten, um auch bei solchen Abständen zu croppen. Interessanterweise war bei der Nachbearbeitung kaum etwas zu tun: ich habe in LR lediglich leicht mit Kontrasten gespielt, teilweise in schwarzweiß umgewandelt... Eine Verzerrungskorrektur war, wen überhaupt, nur minimal vonnöten. Ich hänge Euch mal ein paar der entstandenen Bilder an.

I had a rather disturbing event occur this evening. While using the iPhone FOTOS "app" my Q3 locked up -- solid. Switching the camera off, then on had no effect. The red Leica "ball" remained on the LCD display regardless of power switch position. I resolved the issue only by dropping the battery and reinserting it. Wow. Side commentary: The FOTOS app functionality is excellent -- a real "value added." Unfortunately, it takes a l-o-n-g time to connect (even with the camera is 1' away from the phone) and numerous "button pushes" are required to get the iPhone and Q3 "talking." This really needs to be streamlined. Don't expect to use this quickly, e.g., when you see an opportunity coming up for its use while engaged in street photography. One must plan ahead and expect debilitating time-outs to follow in very short order (even when Q3 time-out is set to the maximum.) The FOTOS "app" offered me an opportunity to e-mail three .log files but I would have had to hunt/peck a message on my iPhone's pathetic on-screen "keyboard" (no way.) Is there an address to which these files should be sent -- or does Leica even care about such misbehaviors, I wonder? The situation experienced this evening was extremely disappointing -- at the risk of understatement. Not expected from Leica.

Hallo zusammen. Zu meiner Person: Mein Name ist Sait und ich habe mir meine erste Leica (Q3) gekauft. Ich reisse um die Welt und fotografiere gerne Menschen auf der Strasse. Fotografieren war und ist ein Hobby von mir und die Kamera ist für mich ein Werkzeug, um Kontakt mit Menschen aufzubauen. Nun hat sich mir eine Chance geboten im Tattoo- und Friseur-Salon eines Bekannten Einzelbilder von den Mitarbeitern sowie Gruppenbilder vom Team schiessen. Diese wollen sie für ihre Homepage verwenden. Ich habe in Youtube und im Netz nach Informationen zu Einstellungen und Vorgehensweissen gesucht und bin nicht wirklich fündig geworden. Es würde mich freuen Tipps von Erfahrenen Fotografen zu erhalten. Die Räume sind relativ gut belichtet. Ich habe auch keine Erfahrung mit Blitz-Fotografie und möchte ohne Blitz und ohne Stativ fotografieren. Mein Gedanke war bei den Einzelportraits ISO 200 , 1,7 Blende zu verwenden und mit der Belichtungszeit im Bereich von 1/200 und höher zu variieren. Als AF Modus plane ich Field oder Eye Tracker zu verwenden. Bei den Gruppenbildern bin ich überfragt ob ich die Blende von 1,7 auf 11 drehen soll und welchen AF Modus ich verwenden soll bzw. wie ich so fokusieren kann, damit alle Personen scharf gestellt sind. Ich mache das nicht gegen Bezahlung und sehe es als Chance Erfahrungen im Bereich Indoor Fotografie zu sammeln. Trotzdem möchte ich vorbereitet sein und schöne Ergebnisse abliefern. Ich habe ein Blitzgerät (Metz 44 Af-2), dass auf den Blitzschuh passt, ich aber nie verwendet habe. Ich habe auch keine Informationen darüber gefunden ob ich diese mit der Leica verwenden darf. Ich weiss nicht wirklich ob das Sinn macht und ich fühle mich damit auch unsicherer. Ich war auch im Friseursalon eines Freundes um rumzuexperimentieren und war mit den Ergebnissen nicht 100% zufrieden, weshalb mich an die Community wende.
