jeri Posted April 2 Share #21 Posted April 2 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'll start by saying that I didn't even bother to remove the original Leica leather strap from its case. And now after watching the horror footage of the thread starter's torn camera strap, I can congratulate myself on my good luck. For that matter, since I have good experience with Luigi leather cases and straps, since the Leica M8 (not to mention the bottom plate of the camera that Luigi makes, which allows the user to remove the memory card and battery, without having to remove the entire plate), I chose to continue with Luigi also with the M11 and I don't regret it for a moment. Luigi's leather strap is comfortable and pleasant to the touch. It's a strap that doesn't bother you, even when it comes into contact with a sweaty neck, at the end of a hot and humid shooting day. My other cameras, including the Leica M6TTL, use the company's original nylon straps, and I have no complaints about them. Welcome, dear visitor! In 2022 it was already hard to find one in London. I don't think you'll a new one at the normal price from any online shop. I'm not interested in this strap to be honest but it seems to be listed on sites below too: https://www.keh.com/shop/leica-14312-carrying-srap-231044.html https://www.kamera-express.fr/leica-1431-courroie-de-cou-r-m https://www.photospecialist.fr/leica-1431-courroie-de-cou-r-m

The other two seem to be the same shop, and the strap isn't available (can't be added to your basket).
THEME Posted April 2 Share #24 Posted April 2 OP you mean the strap that came with the camera? Absolutely shitty quality, started falling apart after a few outings. Don't think it's real leather.
Anbaric Posted April 2 Share #25 Posted April 2 (edited) Which strap comes with the M11? Here are a few they sell separately, which are claimed to be leather: 24023: https://leica-camera.com/en-GB/photography/accessories/straps/carrying-strap-protective-flap-leather-black 18776: https://leica-camera.com/en-GB/product/carrying-strap-protective-tab-full-grain-cowhide-black 18575: https://leica-camera.com/en-GB/product/carrying-strap-leather-black No direct buying link for the 24023, which I think was made for the M10, on the UK site - perhaps that's also discontinued or on its way out. jaapv Posted April 2 Share #26 Posted April 2 And they are too short to use bandolier style. Around the neck makes the camera swing around.
chris7273 Posted April 2 Share #27 Posted April 2 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) The strap in the M11 box looked like the first reference (24023). Never used it : very cheap looking, too short. Leather is stiff and has a plastic feeling (as a bad quality leather with a PU cover). Leica should be ashamed to offer this… Edited April 2 by chris7273
lct Posted April 3 Share #28 Posted April 3 My M11 strap sits shamelessly on the M240 and looks sturdy so far. Not sure it is genuine leather though. Welcome, dear visitor! LocalHero1953 Posted April 3 Share #29 Posted April 3 I have a couple of Leica nylon straps. I like them because they are strong, flexible and pack small. I avoid leather straps because they all fail on one of these counts. I have a couple of Luigi’s woven ‘silky’ straps in different colours - I don’t know if they’re silk, cotton, nylon or something else, but they’re comfortable. I like them, but they don’t pack as small as the Leica nylon ones. My wrist straps (which I prefer to neck straps) are also Luigi’s silky.
lct Posted April 8 Share #30 Posted April 8 The strap of the digital CL seems to be made the same way as the M11's. JFI.
microview Posted April 11 Share #31 Posted April 11 (edited) For decades now I have been using Artisan & Artist fabric straps. They have soft leather protectors to prevent scuffs on camera. However, for some they will be considered insufficiently long. Edited April 11 by microview
davidmknoble Posted April 11 Share #32 Posted April 11 I’m a big fan of the peak one design and use it on many of my cameras - especially the S system (the wide strap is perfect for the larger, heavier system). But, I also love the Rock and Roll silky straps essentially made out of climbing ribbon. The leather ends are stitched much more and better than the original leica leather strap, and the strap is so flexible it packs easily on the camera. I’ve never had problems with the ring scratching the system, or the stitching tearing, but I’m sure we all put our camera through different paces. The rope straps bother my neck and shoulders because the impact point is so thin, but they look nice! I have the same straps on all my M bodies, even the Monochroms that shipped with the nice leather strap. I like the little nubs on the pad. They allow shoulder carry if desired since they don't slip on most outerwear. On my SL bodies and Q2 I use UPstraps. They have the same nubs on the pads.
fsprow Posted April 16 Share #34 Posted April 16 (edited) Very happy to have read this. I looked at my M11 strap and it was nearly worn through. Ordered a 14312 slightly used on the web and increased my confidence. Thanks to the OP. Edited April 16 by fsprow
dkmoore Posted April 17 Share #35 Posted April 17 Equally important is the connector rings, I forgot what they are call. Need to make sure they are high quality otherwise the strap can work its way out of the ring.
davidbivins Posted April 19 Share #36 Posted April 19 Just as another point of reference, I had the same thing happen to the same strap on my M11-P earlier this month. I was holding the body when the strap broke, but my heart stopped for a moment. Leica replaced the strap under warranty (I told them I didn't want it, but replacement was the only option), but it will stay in its pouch with a note to never use it. I have a stash of the older-style nylon straps and switched to that style immediately after the break. Welcome, dear visitor! fenykepesz Posted April 19 Share #37 Posted April 19 (edited) what i never really understood is why Leica wouldn't include something like eyelets in the loops (lashes) of their leather straps ! i mean it would cost them not even einen roten Heller. the leather layer is there pretty thin and wears out with time being in constant contact with that split metal ring, right ? i don't want to see my M10-D flying to the ground ! i hence inserted a plastic ring into the leather loop which i sawed off from a dried-out felt pen, and finally also better secured the leather lashes with a few stitches so they don't open. cost : 0$, time: 30min. now i can trust that original Leica leather strap...
