I don't have a Ninja V yet to get ProRes RAW from the S1H.  I am experimenting with V Log and L Log.  The new Leica LUTs are promising in the sense that Leica is finally stepping up to support a Leica LOG workflow.  Your pro insights are greatly appreciated as you have made the investment in the SL2 and now the SL2-S.  It's a big commitment.

I believe this forum needs more video info as Leica cameras are becoming more hybrid in purpose.  The SL2-S is billed as a hybrid camera.  Maybe a LUT and color grading thread with samples can be started on this forum to keep the discussion going.  I support Leica growing on the video side.  Thanks again for posting your samples and thoughts.  I look forward to your opinion of the Leica LUTs.

Thank you so much for your response, Mick :) I've actually just done another test with the Leica LUTs and have started a dedicated thread for L-Log colour correcting and grading type of tests and insights!

I want to know the differences that still exist in terms of video between the SL2 (Firmware 3.0) and the SL2-2 (Firmware 2.1)?

I have the impression that they currently have the same performance for video?

Are there any formats that the SL2-S has and not the SL2?

Thanks to the specialists!

The SL2 had the old 30 minute limit for video, and the SL2-S didn't. The update doesn't mention this change - perhaps someone with the SL2 can check.

It is removed! 🤩 and that was not announced before,... a good surprise!

Differences remaining:

SL2 -only- CAN DO

  • s35 4:3 5K (pixel-to-pixel) 10 bits 420 (log only).
  • 4K DCI up to 60fps in FF.

SL2S:

  • Better low light performance in photo that should translate to video, although L-Log is largely denoise-free on both cameras. I am happy to use my SL2 at 400 and 3200 iso in L-Log (dual native, as it seems). I do not know how far people shooting log are willing to push their SL2s... HLG and 8 bits MP4 are less noisy OOC on both cameras.
  • SL2s supposedly oversamples its 4K in all modes (FF or s35) whereas SL2 downsamples in FF (8K>4K) and oversamples its s35 (6K>4K). Hard to prove either way. The downsamplings artefacts (alliasing mostly) that were quite noticeable with the SL2 at its release seem to behave better since beta testing I have done all summer.

Other quirks very specifics I noticed back then, need to check when I can grab the atomos. Hopefully they are all gone.

I hope this is the right thread to post this…. I am facing an issue with video recording on the ninja V as follows;

While recording on the ninja V, the SL2 (FW3) lcd screen turns off. This does not interrupt the recording but the camera stops autofocusing!! Especially on a gimbal, this is very inconvenient

I looked into the power saving settings and there is no option to keep the monitor on without any sleep mode…

what am I missing here?

Oh? This bug is still present? I reported this one before firmware 3 and they ‚promised‘ to fix this…that‘s a real shame, rules out the SL2 for video conferencing again, damn! Anyone can confirm that the SL2-S does not share the same bug (i expect it has…)

But isn‘t there a new ‚continue AF focus‘ setting? Does that help in any way? (Sorry, don‘t have a SL2 for checking the correct naming/ setting).

What settings did you use? Never happened with mine during beta testing Fw3.0....

There is no do not turn off or put display to sleep option so I used the maximum 5 minutes available. HOWEVER, my experience with the Lumix S1H was that no matter what settings you used for the display sleep option, it would not engage while recording and only go to power saving when in standby.

Ok, re-reading what you say, it seems the issue is the (rear) screen of the camera turns off during a more-than-5-minute-take, you say? I seldomly do long takes like this, and usualy I would use EVF-Extended to save battery life while using the Atomos... in addition to this I only do MF... I will try again soon to see how it behave with rear screen on and left alone for 5mn + take when I have the chance... I can imagine this being an issue for someone recording some kind of event but for the work I do I never encountered the issue.

Yes... I am doing a documentary now and that is where I encountered this problem... manual focus will be a problem in an intimate interview alone with the subject or fast paced run n gun situation... again, I never had this problem with the Pan S1H...
