The Zeiss C-Sonnar 50/1.5 + film (Kodak Tri-X 400) + M3.

This shows the Beauty of a classic lens. Ya know?  I have used the ultra sharp lenses with the high res digital and then spent HOURS smoothing imprefections. But this combo gives the Painterly Effect.  I am gravitating back to film and leaving Digital except for landscapes. People are fascinated with the Grain of a film portrait.

Thank you Torontoamateur , nice to see a fellow Torontonian here!

Film certainly has its pleasures -- and its pain -- but it always has this je ne sais quoi quality about it... as does the Zeiss Sonnar 50/1.5.

Just got my copy of the Zeiss Sonnar 50 f1.5 lens. Should I choose the Summilux 50 1.4 Asph as the default option for the Zeiss in the lens detection menu (M10)?

The Sonnar vignettes a bit more than the Summilux asph so i hand-code the former as Summilux 50 pre-asph (000101) instead. Never did comparos to check actual differences though.

I did once see some literature from Zeiss recommending that (sorry, don't have the link).  In practice though I don't lose any sleep over whether it's set to that detection or off, although I should probably mention I don't really shoot any landscapes with it.

The Zeiss recommendations (link) date a dozen years back and were aimed at fixing red edges and other color shift issues due to wide ZM lenses on the M9. These recommendations did take into account the optical design of lenses, more so than their focal length per se. This way, to take an example, the Zeiss recommendations may advise to use 28mm lens profiles for 35mm lenses actually. I never followed these recommendations, i must say, as i expect lens profiles to match the focal length of lenses. And so, especially, on the M11 that is not prone to color shift issues thanks to its BSI sensor. Also the M11 needs to know the focal length of lenses to calculate shutter speeds in auto iso mode, as well as to set the live view stabilization if i understand well this somewhat mysterious feature to me.

First time mine has seen light of day for quite a while.  An example at f1.5 (M11) during a woodland walk yesterday.
