I did not see an image thread for this wonderful, unique lens. The rendering has been described as having "atmosphere magnification" and being "honest/wholesome." Please share yours.

This article on his 35mmc site by @Hamish Gill, and his waffling along about it, is what put the lens high on my to try out list, and it's a keeper for me.

Here's a few - all with the M9. Great rendering once you get the hang of its well-documented focus shift.

I was unsuccessfully looking for a thread for this too, thanks for starting it @rolling_stones!  I don't know if it's me but there seems to be a certain silence when bringing up this lens in comparison to say the pre or current asph lux.  I wonder why that is?  It sings on the M-E (so does the 21mm F2.8 though).

Even if if you don't have a Leica, it's still worth having.  This is an image taken with the lens adapted to a Fuji.

Ray,

I'm a bit confused: are we talking about the same lens here (the Zeiss C-Sonnar 50/1.5)?

Looks like the stones left the building in '15 😉 - thanks for the shout out. From what I can tell the focus shift reputation has thrown a dark shadow on this lens, and it scares people off, but this lens is too good not to talk about and share some images. Under normal shooting I too have found the focus shift is not an issue, as is covered in this part of the 35mmc article. And as Hamish says, it is the lack of correction of the issue that allows for the spherical aberrations that gives us those wonderful out-of-focus areas and transitions. Old-school rendering with character, and modern coatings. If you are only interested in close up and wide open then best to have Live View or an EVF, and then again you could say that for any lens faster than f/2 or 2.8 on a RF. I sold a lux and this is my 50 now, and the only thing that bugs me about it is the chrome nose, so run it with a thin black step-up ring LOL.

My copy of this lens was perfectly calibrated out of the box at f/2 (tested on two M240 bodies) which happily is the aperture I find most useful and is most used. I use this lens at all apertures with the rangefinder. The lens is sharpest over the entire frame at f/11 making for a very versatile and comparatively inexpensive lens : two lenses in one.

Mine is mainly a fixture on my M7, sometimes on my M240 when it temporarily displaces my 50mm Summilux-M ASPH (first picture) and this year I tried it out my Sony A6500 (APS-C) (second picture). Most usage though is with film, in this instance Fuji Acros 100 (third picture)

I really like the 50 C-Sonnar, special wide open and useful stopped down. Here is a picture i made in Glencoe, Scotland, i used it at F1.5 on a ME.
