I bought it secondhand, and from the pictures, the vulcanite was chipped.

So, I got the seller to send it directly to Solms for CLA, servicing and re-covering. There's some scuffing on the top plate (presumably from a meter) and some marks on the baseplate - all add character. Made in 1962, I'm hoping my kids will inherit it in perfect working order some time in the 2050s!

Cheers

akiva -- I would give Leica USA a telephone call. they can set you up. btw less costly is to buy the Leica a la carte covering 'vulkanit' from Leica and then have sherry or Gerry smith or dag put it on while doing a CLA on your m3. iirc the covering was ~175 a couple of years ago.

Am I the only one who gets a little excited when I notice Penzes has posted something in an "I Love My...." thread? :)

Pete

No, he's one of the best camera porn makers around here (and the rest of his works is remarkable too).

Cheers,

Bruno

Holy Moses - you gents have some beautiful M3 cameras!!

I've always wanted an M3 - I think that will be my next M camera acquisition.

Has anyone had the MP rangefinder upgrade done to their M3?

the MP rangefinder upgrade
usually refers to an upgrade of a condenser lens in rangefinders, usually found in M6 and early M7 cameras, that do not have this additional feature, that has been omitted during the M4-2 (?) production as a cost saving measure.

If you are speaking of actually entirely converting a M3 with the inclusion of a MP rangefinder, that would be a whole different matter ;-)
