  1. When you arrive to the tiny church of San Giovanni in Ranui, on the Dolomites (Italy), you are faced with one of these classic views that have been photographed to death but which timeless beauty is just undeniable. On a beautiful May sunset, I forewent the sunset colours and portrayed it in a dramatic black & white, with the help of an amazing sky and of a 2-minutes long exposure. With Leica SL, Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-90mm and the incredible Formatt-Hitech Firecrest Ultra filters. Thank you for viewing, best regards Vieri
  2. Land's End, in Cornwall, is a truly magical place. Once you get past the (terrible!) amusement park-like thing close to the parking lot and start wandering along the cliffs, you realise that west of you there is nothing but ocean until the American continent's shores. Enys Dodnan Arch looks and feels like a door open towards the New World. Leica SL, Leica Super-Vario-Elmar-SL 16-35mm and the great Formatt-Hitech Firecrest Ultra filters. Thank you for viewing, best regards Vieri
  3. Urro del Manzano at Sunset, in Cantabria (Spain). This is a 60 second long exposure taken with Leica SL, Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-90mm and Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters. Thank you for viewing, best regards Vieri
  4. At Playa de Mexota, Asturias (Spain), you'll find yourself facing a sail-shaped sea stack towering in the Atlantic ocean. After climbing on the rocks facing the stack and finding a composition, it was just a matter of waiting for the sunset... This is a 36 seconds exposures, with the help of Leica SL, Voigtlander 15mm Super Wide-Heliar and my beloved Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters. Thank you for viewing, best regards Vieri
  5. Stormy weather at Playa Ballota, in Asturias (Spain), one of my favourite locations along this incredible coast. An older image, 60 seconds of long exposure taken with Leica S (007), Leica Summarit-S 35mm f/2.5 and my Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters. Thank you for viewing, best regards Vieri
  6. Hi All I recently upgraded to the Q2 from the Q. Love it. I've been shooting Leica about three years, I also have M10 and various lenses so I'm quite used to Leica. However, I've just come across a problem with my Q2 and would appreciate advice. Here's the situation: On the Q2 I wanted to shoot longer than 1 second exposure, so I turned the exposure wheel to 1+, then tried to increase exposure to, say 20 seconds by turning the thumbwheel, as I used to on the original Q. I am aware of the limitations re long exposures and high ISO so I set the ISO manually to 100. The camera won't go beyond 1s exposure, however much I turn the wheel. Turning the wheel the other way it only offers me 0.6 seconds. To check it, I then set the exposure to auto (A), and went into a dark room. Again, the camera will not set the exposure to above 1s. It may be a fault with my camera, or I may be doing something wrong. Any thoughts? JC
  7. The imposing Castel Boccale, a castle hanging on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Mediterranean on the shores of Tuscany, in Italy. A 75 second long exposure taken with Leica SL, Voigtlander 15mm Super Wide-Heliar and my trusted Formatt-Hitech Firecrest Ultra filters during a Workshop One-on-One in led in Tuscany. I can't wait to be back there in April! Thank you for viewing, best regards Vieri
  8. Sunrise at the Quiraing, a really enchanted place where trees can even grow horizontally, out of hillsides. An oldie from 2017, this is a 2 seconds long exposure taken on the Isle of Skye in Scotland with my then Leica SL, Voigtlander 15mm Super-Wide Heliar version III and Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters. Thank you for viewing, best regards Vieri
  9. Hello, Suggestions on long exposure photography using the Leica Q 49mm. Heliopan 49mm Variable Gray ND Filter and or, B+W 49mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC-Nano Filter. Does anyone have experience with either one of these filters, or any other recommendations? Thank you.
  10. Morning all I'm an experienced Leica user, having an M10, M9 (converted to IR) and a Q2. On both the M10 and Q2, vignetting has suddenly appeared. It appears to only happen at longer exposure, eg 10secs. I've used both cameras all over the world and never come across this. See attached images, straight out of camera. Both were 10-15 second exposures at f11/f13. I was using Lee Filters 10 stop grad with the relevant holders for the lenses. I've used exactly the same kit many times and never had this problem. The same shot at 'typical' exposures eg 1/125 etc, does not produce the vignetting. Since this happened (yesterday) I have updated the firmware on both cameras. Advice welcome!
  11. Last light at Kimmeridge Bay, in Dorset. I truly love exploring and photographing the ledges at Kimmeridge for detail work, they are so inspiring and I find them always rewarding, with almost any light. I took this photograph during a Workshop One-on-One in Dorset I led in October 2017. Leica SL, Voigtlander 15mm and Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters. Thank you for viewing, best regards Vieri
  12. A burning sunset sky over the Racetrack, a 20-seconds exposure taken in amazing Death Valley (CA), USA, during a workshop I led there last winter. Leica SL, Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-90mm and filters Formatt-Hitech Firecrest Ultra. Thank you for viewing, best regards Vieri
  13. The amazing Durdle Door at sunset, taken during a Workshop I led in Dorset (UK) last February. Leica SL, Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-90mm and filters Formatt-Hitech Firecrest Ultra. Thank you for viewing, best regards Vieri
  14. Next week I'll be again working in Dorset, and this image (taken there during a Workshop One-on-One last December) came to my mind. This is the famous Durdle Door, but the sky that evening inspired me to go for a very long exposure, 200 seconds for a very dramatic B&W. Leica SL, Voigtlander 15mm Super-Wide-Heliar and Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters. Thank you for viewing, best regards Vieri
  15. A Kimmeridge sunset, a long exposure detail on the inspiring ledges at Kimmeridge Bay, taken during a Workshop I led in Dorset (UK) in Spring 2017. Leica SL, Voigtlander 15mm v. III and filters Formatt-Hitech Firecrest. Thank you for viewing, best regards Vieri
  16. A bleak and beautiful winter sunset at Reynisdrangar, taken during a Workshop I led in Iceland last February. Leica SL, Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-90mm and filters Formatt-Hitech Firecrest Ultra. Thank you for viewing, best regards Vieri
  17. Amazing Playa de Aguilar at sunrise, taken while exploring new locations right after my Workshop in Asturias and the Atlantic (Spain) last September. Leica SL, Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-90mm and Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters. Thank you for viewing, best regards Vieri
  18. It's well documented that the M240 is not able to go past 8 seconds shutter duration when set at ISO 800 and further which makes successful Milky Way type of pictures very difficult (standard being something like 30 seconds at ISO 1600 at f2). Well after some searching today I found a post where a guy had discovered that using the M set on auto ISO and in continuous shoot mode when set on bulb he could get 60 seconds. However even when auto ISO high limit was set at 3600 ISO the exposure turned out at 800 ISO the camera not shifting the the highest ISO in the auto setting. Anyway after some experimentation I found that if I took a shot first in A shutter mode at ISO 1600 and then go back to auto ISO it would still use 1600 since auto ISO uses the last used ISO when set to bulb. So with this I was able to get and exposure of 60 seconds at 1600 ISO when ISO is in auto, shutter set to B and in continuous shot C. Recap Set auto ISO upper limit to 1600 or above Set ISO to 1600 and take a picture Set ISO to auto Set shutter to B Set shoot mode to C Take a shot and hold down the shutter button After 60 secs it will automatically close the shutter Of course in the real world you would use a cable release and make the necessary exposure time, say 30 seconds for the Milky Way at f2 Now I just have to find somewhere to shoot the Milky Way which is not easy when you live in Shanghai :-)
  19. Hi folks, I have an opportunity to buy a M-240 which is in reasonable condition... EXCEPT the sensor creates photos with a BLUE horizontal line (photo further down) Does anybody know what I will cost to repair the problem... or is it a simple software/remapping issue? The sale is about US$3300. It has shutter count of 4300. Apparently this happened after a long exposure shot. Advice would be much appreciated.
  20. Feeling minimalistic and black & white today. "Neist Point sunset", on the Isle of Skye (Scotland), taken during a Workshop I led on the Isle in Spring 2017. Leica SL, Voigtlander 15mm Super-Wide Heliar v. III and filters Formatt-Hitech Firecrest. Thank you for viewing, best regards Vieri
  21. Sunrise at Playa de Pendueles, taken right after my Workshop in Asturias (Spain) last October while exploring for new locations. Leica SL, Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-90mm @ 24mm and filters Formatt-Hitech Firecrest. Thank you for viewing, best regards Vieri
