Checking in after a while, I see that M11 is still rather polarizing.

It's not the M10 that everyone fell in love with right away.

Clearly if something requires so much debate or work to love, it's not a clear-cut home run success.  I've made a decision to postpone upgrading my M10R, and so far find that I keep enjoying it and also giving lots of light to the M9 that I got instead of waiting for M11.  The color difference is drastic while both have a Leica look.  I can get the M11 look from the Hasselblad 907x.  If there's a disagreement on whether M11 even has a Leica look, it's another reason to wait until things settle down, or the P comes out.

I love my M10-R, but I have not touched it since I got the M11.
By the way, a lot of critiques comes from forum members who do not own an M11.

IMO, the only real disadvantage of M11 is the upgrade cost.

Please define Leica look.

Debates are not debates when most people on the negative side of the conversation have never used the product. Literally the definition of insanity, IMO.

Aside from the "Leica look" that can have various meanings, if any, drastic color difference, magic or lack thereof, popping colors etc. are subjective expressions that can apply to various cameras depending on firmware, for jpeg shooters, or depending on post production for raw shooters. Being a raw shooter myself i judge cameras by the easiness to get the results i want in PP. From this viewpoint, i don't find the M9 the easiest camera as i must somewhat struggle to adjust its colors and digital noise. By comparison, i find the M240 an easier camera although clipping reds can be a problem sometimes. As for the M11 it needs very little efforts so far. I find the M11 profile a bit oversaturated but it is easy to adjust in PP if needed. High resolution is not an issue either so as far as color rendition is concerned the M11 is my favorite rangefinder since the M8-2 for now. FWIW.

The other day I was out briefly with the 10-R for the first time since acquiring the M11.  It did nothing to change my opinion of the 11.  The R is a great camera, perfectly capable; I was happy with the results. But the M11 is just that much better in so many subtle and not so subtle ways...  ISO 64, battery, e-shutter, etc.  From an imaging perspective, either camera is certainly fine and after post pretty much indistinguishable from the other under normal shooting and viewing conditions.  I suppose what I was most surprised about was how poorly the 020 compares to the V2, but even more so by the added heft of the older body with the RRS as opposed to the new one with the Leica grip.  Quite noticeable after a half a year with the 11.  I'd never argue that the M11 represents a mandatory upgrade, but unlike when I traded the 10 for R, I have zero regrets around spending up for one.  AFAIC, when you tally it all up, its the best digital M yet.

I like the M11. Good camera. Switching back and forth to my M10M, I am also not put off by the "10ish-ness" of the older model. Also works great, and I don't even notice the special needs anymore after years of M10 use (e.g. of course I will carry spare batteries ...). Since I am working in DNG/RAW only, I would argue that representation of colors is *my responsibility* (utilizing best software available for the task), not a feature of the camera - M11 or M10 ... I enjoy pictures from both. All good 🙂

So do I. The M11 files are the easiest and most malleable in handling I ever had. The M10R files are very close (in colors too), but there are many other advantages of the M11 over the M10. For me weight and USB-C are the biggest one.

But of course everyone has to ask himself if the M11 is worth the money btw if the existing one is good enough for him (!). A friend of mine is a professional photographer. He is totally satisfied with the M262 and has no need for an M10 or M11.

I was not interested in the M10 that offered little more than my M240 with a Visoflex remaining outdated compared to mere P&S mirrorless cameras and i was not tempted by the M10-R either due to its lack of IBIS. The M11 has the same flaw but i was bold or naive enough to hope that 36mp or 18mp resolutions could solve more or less the issue. They do not, as i saw it as soon as i received the M11, so in my modest but long experience since the M3, this camera remains the only M needing a tripod or rock solid hands to shoot at 1/f, let alone slower shutter speeds, sans motion blur. The OP did not place himself on this ground to criticize the M11 but on that of color rendition by comparing it to the M9, reason why i did not comment on other points of comparison. Not to say that i regret purchasing the M11 that i find the first modern M, aside from the lack of IBIS, but this is another story.

Try it yourself instead of trusting all the negative comments of users who have never ever held one in their hand. Just a waste of time. I read through the critiques beforehand as well and totally regret every second of doing so!

The M11 as compared to the M10P I exchanged for it is better in every detail! I have the perception that these comments are mainly excuses as theses guys cannot upgrade for reasons…

My M10-R is staying home. It use to get so hot when using it a bit. I use to heat up the pizza with it.

not more hot pizza on the M11 on the road. well the pandemic is done and I need to loose some pizza belly. Good timing for M11!

Could be that the OP preaches the false to know the true, who knows? :D

The M11 is the best M I have shot with. I bonded with it instantly and like it more now than when I purchased it.

I stopped following the M11 bashing somewhere around when the discussions over it having failed for not having IBIS. When people buy a camera and then. complain about a feature it doesn't even have, I'm done.

Agree 100%. Best camera I’ve ever used. Great resolution, simple controls, fine colors, even a very capable large JPEG. Big prints are extremely close in fine detail to those of my Hasselblad H6D-100c and the M11 has largely replaced it.
