Mr.Q Posted January 11, 2020 Share #261  Posted January 11, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Got mine for €4,911 shipped and it sold locally in Japan for approximately €6,800. Didn't expect the auction to go so high but I'm not complaining lol. Slow distribution, or maybe someone in Allendale misplaced a box in November?  European (sortable) ordering for dates is yyyy-mm-dd, so yours may have been packed on Dec 11. Just seems to soon and to scary. Many official resellers - including some German ones that are on this same forum - have an eBay page. I got the SL from a reseller with over 3k feedbacks. You just need to buy from trustable users. I purchased my M10 on eBay too, and most of my cameras and lenses.  My main reason is that I get mile points out of eBay purchases, and the 6000 miles I get out of the SL are enough for a free one way trip to any destination in Europe with a 20kg suitcase included 😂

Checked their web page on December 31st and it was still available. Got back online on January 2nd and now the price had jumped to $7,095.- which it still is as of this writing. Looks like they just hiked the price over night on existing inventory. Not happy about this so I ordered one for $6,395.- from B&H, got it and now B&H are out of stock as of this writing. That increase pretty closely tracks the 10% price increase that went into effect on 1/1/2020.
GlobeRiders Posted January 12, 2020 Share #266 Â Posted January 12, 2020 Why should one pay a price increase on existing inventory, that is money in the pocket of the dealer unless I misunderstand this game. Just talked with my local dealer, Kenmore Camera, and they tell that I can expect my SL2 at the end of this coming week as Leica USA is preparing to send out a new batch of cameras. What ever happened to the tariffs and bundles there was so much talk about?
Chuck Albertson Posted January 12, 2020 Share #267 Â Posted January 12, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) The tariffs are still around (they could even go up on Tuesday), but I haven't heard much lately about the bundles. The 10% price increase on all products is supposed to mitigate somewhat the 25% tariff on lenses. Glazer's is a Leica Boutique, and they may not have much flexibility on price increases. I don't know what the Leica Store in Bellevue is doing - their website has been down for weeks.

Now I need to get a lens to try AF... A bit off-topic, but is there any release date for the Sigma 24-70? I know it got delayed Ugh! Jochen Firmware. Once the body ships, it is fixed. And firmware takes time. The Sl saw major changes in release 3.n, most of which are incorporated in 1.0 of the SL2. But there are promised functions that didn't get finished in time for shipment, and things that work strangely or not at all, especially when you interact with the camera over FOTOS, which is supposed to be a mainstream Leica standard-bearer... Still a good strategy, but much tougher for now anyway than other recent releases.  I secured 3 SL lenses at now great prices, but still waiting (next in line) for the body from a small dealer.  I don’t look outside the US, though, preferring domestic relationships. And Leica FOTOS app. Lots of missing features in firmware- like no proper preview in photo mode (no depth of field preview), no support for linear focus ring control, missing multishot functionality to name the most obvious features promised but undelivered. The FOTOS app is a huge improvement over the prior implementation, but remains inconsistent in making phone to camera connections, and for bizarre reasons changes the mode of the camera to Program mode. To be fair to Leica, they said at the launch that certain features would be delivered in a future firmware release, features that are typically not part of every camera. The lack of depth-of-field preview was a miscalculation on Leica's side based on the feedback that they received: many photographers did not use it on SL (source: German LUF). I do not want to comment on the FOTOS app since its issues are not specific to SL2. scott kirkpatrick Posted January 21, 2020 Author Share #277  Posted January 21, 2020 No joke. In early November, when the camera was announced finally -- Celebrities and YouTube testers had all been very publically invited to Wetzlar a month earlier, Leica Stores in several cities held pre-announcement showings -- there was an embargo placed upon actually handing over any cameras to purchasers for two more weeks. In the public press, it was stated that the SL2 would start shipping Nov 23, but some shops already had cameras two weeks earlier and received this "embargo" notice.. intermediatic Posted January 21, 2020 Share #278  Posted January 21, 2020 (edited) I’ll probably get mod’d for writing something this critical but as of this writing there is one at Mr. Porter, which says a lot about what Leica has become. I had never thought I’d buy another Leica after it decided it would rather woo rap stars  and other people with massive disposable incomes who would prefer to use their cameras as fashion accessories rather than actual photographers, but the SL2 won me over. Still, it peeves me that camera stores don’t have them but fashion stores do. Lunatics. I won’t be buying one from a clothing store, thank you very much. I’ll keep my order in with my local camera shop. Edited January 21, 2020 by intermediatic
