colint544 Posted April 18, 2016 Share #81 Posted April 18, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) 1960 vintage 35mm F2.8 Summaron. Tiny, lightweight, gorgeous rendering, and bitingly sharp where you focus it. Classic.
Advertisement Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Hi colint544, Take a look here What is the most used lens on your M?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ola.fiske Posted April 20, 2016 Share #82 Posted April 20, 2016 Since I'm just dipping my toes into the Leica waters, I suspect it will be this one: 50mm lux 1.4 Black Chrome. I have it and l love it
Simon Bee Posted April 20, 2016 Share #83 Posted April 20, 2016 I have it and l love it Wonderful lens to start out with. I have one too along with its sibling ..the 35 'Cron Black Chrome, makes for a very attractive outfit mounted on my M4 50 Jahre. If I could only have one? ..... well for me it would have to be the 50 'Lux. Simon
Joshua Lowe Posted April 20, 2016 Share #84 Posted April 20, 2016 Seems to be about a 70/30 split between the APO 50 and 35 cron ASPH. They're a great travel combo since they're light and can share filters and caps.
Shadow Catcher Posted April 26, 2016 Share #85 Posted April 26, 2016 50mm Summilux is probably on the camera for 75% of my photographs, followed by 28mm Elmarit. 21 mm Elmarit is slowly replacing the 28mm. Norm
the warrior Posted April 26, 2016 Share #86 Posted April 26, 2016 The more I use lenses with 50mm. My favorite lenses are the Noctilux f0.95 but is more big, now I change this for a 50mm Lux Pre-ASPH E46 BP Walter Mandler desing and 5cm f2 (1956) collapsible. I changed the lux 75 by 90 mm Cron Pre-ASPH E55 also mandler. And the 21mm Elmarit ASPH but I am looking for something more retro, perhaps the Super-Angulon f4. I have the MP black, the M3 and black MMonochrom.
Martin Fagerås Posted April 26, 2016 Share #87 Posted April 26, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I also have a Leica Q and M. I only have two lenses for my M, the Summilux 50 ASPH is on 95% of the time, and i got a CV 15 V3 as well for those occasional ultra wide shots i love. 28+50 works great for me, It's a nice combo that cover most of the stuff i like to shoot. I pondered a 35 for the M as well since i like the 28-35mm FOV, but found out that i would probably not be happy with anything else than a 35 Lux in that case. That would be too costly for a lens rarely used when i have the Q. I like 35 for street and intimate environmental work, The Q is just so much better than the M in those cases with its better ISO capabilities, autofocus and almost completely silent shutter that i think a 35mm for the M would be in the bag most of the time. After my GAS calmed down i found out that for now i'm happy with 15+28+50 on the Q and M
@McLeica Posted April 26, 2016 Share #88 Posted April 26, 2016 (edited) In addition to the Q, 50'cron and 35'lux pre asph on the M7 (for night shots and portability). 28'elmarit sits on the M7 most of the time. sarav Posted April 26, 2016 Share #89 Posted April 26, 2016 Once upon a time there was an MP with a 35 Lux FLE...but recently a chrome 35 summicron IV appeared in my bag, it's a bit less sharp but it has a gorgeous 3D rendering...now it's my favorite lens (small, light, unobtrusive, with more character).
Poki Posted April 26, 2016 Share #90 Posted April 26, 2016 The 50mm Summicron 11819 (Type IV). Small, light and with absolutely beautiful image quality. The temptation to upgrade to the APO one is always there, but considering the price and the insanely high quality of my Cron, I really can't justify it.

I'm considering a little bit if my first lens, when I get taken the momentum should going to be the new 50 mm Summarit 2.4, or spend more and buy the Summicron. I too, was tempted by the APO but I don't like too much its bokeh, a little bit too perfect and a bit boring. Suddenly I find this behavior in all my Koelsch/Karbe-lenses, beautiful lenses but with them I hardly feel the passion for the hunt of a good photography as I fell with my older lenses; with the latter, with all their limits, I feel good. 50 Summicron has the detail of a Koelsch/Karbe design with the Mandler Blur...maybe a candidate for the perfect lens? keithlaban.co.uk Posted April 26, 2016 Share #95 Posted April 26, 2016 Depends on what I'm shooting. For the narrow alleyways in Morocco it's inevitably my 21mm Super-Elmar ASPH. Same for interiors in Greece. For more general work it's often a 90mm Summarit or for selective focus work my Zeiss 50mm f/1.5 ZM. As much as I'd love to carry one lens one body it's not going to happen. Horses for courses.
Poki Posted April 26, 2016 Share #96 Posted April 26, 2016 I'm considering a little bit if my first lens, when I get taken the momentum should going to be the new 50 mm Summarit 2.4, or spend more and buy the Summicron. Consider spending even less money and getting a mint, used 50mm Summicron Type IV (not the current Type V). It's the same optical design, but in a smaller and lighter package - and it has a focus tab! You can get a mint one for around €900, so a good chunk cheaper than the Summarit. ...and the insanely beautiful bokeh. I too, was tempted by the APO but I don't like too much its bokeh, a little bit too perfect and a bit boring. That's certainly true, the bokeh is just as amazing as pretty much everything in this lens. Still, the APO seems to have a little more pop in some situations ... Whatever, I won't be able to spend €7k on that thin anytime soon anyway, so I'll continue to happily use my Type IV. That's the one I have. Tab focus and just a stunning performer. Yep, I totally agree. I really don't get why they redesigned the lens in a larger, heavier package without a focus tab.
exile Posted April 27, 2016 Share #97 Posted April 27, 2016 by default my most used lens for photography is my right aquula. (Why use a single lens? If you choose wisely you can easily carry 2 focal lengths for the same weight as a summilux.)
Trivette Posted April 27, 2016 Share #98 Posted April 27, 2016 The 50mm Summicron v5 suits me perfectly for B&W photography with the M. The humble X2 is my go-to for the 35mm FOV.

That's an old calculation. They can be found far cheaper if you look, particularly in the US, at something around €5200 in QM2 grade with a full passport warranty. It begins to approach the psychological realm of "vaguely fathomable" at that price.
asiafish Posted May 22, 2016 Share #100 Posted May 22, 2016 For street or portraits the 50 Lux ASPH, but for travel or events the 35 FLE.
