Bill W Posted March 3, 2015 Share #163 Posted March 3, 2015 F2 or F2.8 with the M240. Full resolution: http://www.lichtbildhaus.de/tmp/50apo/L1005003-2.jpg A fabulous shot.
lct Posted March 4, 2015 Share #164 Posted March 4, 2015 I have had no problem to focus with this lens so far but i don't pixel peep that much. Here handheld at f/11, 1/70s, zone focus following DoF markings of the lens. I could get pretty similar results with any modern Leica lens i suspect, unless using a tripod perhaps. BerndReini Posted March 4, 2015 Share #165 Posted March 4, 2015 Do you own a film monitor? No, I have a monitor that only shows good color from the M8 and the M240, never the M9 or film. Come on, Jeff. I hope you were joking and not dismissing a legitimate question.
Jeff S Posted March 4, 2015 Share #166 Posted March 4, 2015 (edited) The comment was in response to B-A-C, not you. It was only a joke in the sense that of course there is no such thing as a film monitor. Screen shots don't mean much to me in any event, let alone given additional intervening variables involving scanning film for online presentation. One needs to look at prints, not screen shots IMO….and for film, those are best done with chemicals (I was thinking more b/w than color, but same principle applies). YMMV. BerndReini Posted March 4, 2015 Share #167 Posted March 4, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Good, I was hoping you were joking. Even in small screen shots you can definitely tell a difference between film and digital, but you are right, probably not enough to appreciate the subtleties of the 50 Apo. I talked to someone who had shot the 50 Apo with film who said that the quality is visible even with film. I have my doubts about this. First of all, film is much more forgiving with regard to chromatic aberration, second, with possibly a few exceptions, it lacks the ability to resolve the fine micro-contrast that the Leica M Monochrom can resolve. In my opinion, considering how small the difference between the 50 Apo is to the 50 lux aspherical, I would definitely opt for the extra stop for shooting film. platypus Posted March 4, 2015 Share #168 Posted March 4, 2015 Do you own a film monitor? Jeff Do please correct me if I'm wrong (and I know you will) but I guess that the amusing and slightly cynical (maybe even a tad sarcastic) remarks of Jeff S are meant to be enjoyed....not taken seriously. BerndReini Posted March 5, 2015 Share #170 Posted March 5, 2015 I was only trying to clarify this because a member with 50 posts asked a question, and I want him to get to a thousand questions without getting discouraged by us old-timers.
