Latest acquisition: traded my Leica X1 for this 1.5/50mm Summarit + cash. I find the lens matches the M4-P very well due to the larger 50mm framelines. Lovely.

Traded my X100 for my first Leica, the M4-P! All that's left to do is buy some film and get started

i know this is the m4-p thread, but couldnt resist asking. what do u prefer from the m4-p to the m4?

  • newer (remember the problem with M4 and shutter curtains coming of he drum ...)
  • less weight
  • steel gear / can be used with motor & rapidwinder
  • 75/28 frame lines added
  • has hot-shoe contact
  • usually cheaper :)

For me, it's the size and weight, definitely. On paper it looks like nothing, but in real life I can feel the difference in my hands. And yes, it's pretty cheap!:D

Old Thread but look at this girl. The M4-P is from 1982 and the Elmarit 135/2,8 is built in 1961.

Bought a few years ago because SLR sometimes are a kind of stinking because of their size and weight and for camouflage use.

It's not in daily use but my favorite camera for usage with a classic B/W film.

The pic is made with such a stinking SLR because it didn't stink yet:D

Enjoy...

Best regards from Peine

... now that we had the "I love my MP, M6, M7" but what about the "under-dog", the black-chrome M4-P ? ;)

The first Leica having a VF with 6 frame-lines, a motor-drive or rapid-winder can be attached, all M-lenses with or without googles (including the DR Summicron) and the Super-Angulon-M can be used without restrictions. Isn't it the most versatile and at the same time puristic camera Leica ever made ? :)

Mine re-introduced me to the pleasure of non-reflex photography and no heavy backpack. I had to learn to use a meter again and bought a succession of them on eBay as they prove fragile in regular use.

There's something about the build-quality of a Leica. I still have my M4-P although I moved to an M9. It is reassuringly like its film progenitor but gives sharper results.:)

I certainly love my M4-P. It's film that I'm not so sure about.

I use my M8 all of the time but also have an M4-P which I don't really use very much. Although the M8 is an easy camera to use it's nowhere near as nice as the M4-P in terms of feel and handling and it kind of makes you wish that digital cameras hadn't been invented and that we were all still using film cameras.
