Advertisement Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 Hi Al Brown, Take a look here Is this 35mm Summicron V4 "King of Shockeh" destroyed or is it art?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pippy Posted December 5, 2023 Share #2 Posted December 5, 2023 Neither. I'm surprised how poorly the re-skin is adhering to the body. Philip.
pcgarner Posted December 5, 2023 Share #3 Posted December 5, 2023 The Japanese have a unique aesthetic, and this is an example. Never a look I'd favor, but I can see it being flaunted by certain people. I'd think to loop back to your question: Neither "destroyed" nor art.
FDS Posted December 5, 2023 Share #4 Posted December 5, 2023 It's a fashion accessory for being seen in Yoyogi Park!

kona Posted December 6, 2023 Share #6 Posted December 6, 2023 As others said, not art (and it's not meant to be art) or destroyed (although resale value is gone). It's not something I would do to a Leica, but fully support people doing whatever they like to their camera. Reading the link, the camera is a gift from the parents to their 2 year old daughter called Leica (= Reika in Japanese) so it's pretty sweet. Hopefully she will appreciate it when she grows up. Pyrogallol Posted December 6, 2023 Share #11 Posted December 6, 2023 (edited) The colours make it look as if it is made of plastic. It should deter any thieves. Just right for “street photography”. No, her name is not engraved on the top. It says Leica ("RAIKA") on the top. 1

The eternal question - is the camera named after the daughter named after the camera
charlesphoto99 Posted December 7, 2023 Share #14 Posted December 7, 2023 My daughter's name is Leica. She has both USA and German passports (her mom is from Dusseldorf). I've got her bits of Leica swag over time, but I think even she, at 11, would be 'what have you done dad??' if I gave her something like this.

It is all those instagram photos of a baby published without the child's consent and creating a digital footprint for a future adult with photos potentially repurposed for inappropriate or illegal means, identity theft, embarrassment, bullying by peers or identity theft - all done by instant internet fame hungry parents - that I am supremely appaled by 🤮. don daniel Posted December 8, 2023 Share #17 Posted December 8, 2023 I think the answer to the TO's question ist simple: Yes, this 35mm Summicron IV indeed is destroyed. But who cares? It's an overrated lens anyway! 😂
