Testing the DR of the Default OOC Jpeg in the Q3

I am a RAW shooter who, if possible, tries to avoid as much post processing as possible.  I purchased the Q3 (and Q2) primarily as a pleasure cam.  I was curious to see whether the Q3 can deliver great results with little or no PP.  Thus, my first test with the Q3 -- an Air Museum in Riverside County on a bright sunny day….a little past mid-day.  Took more photos than the 3 shown but I wanted to see what the standard metering and default settings would yield.  I was also testing the Q3 against an A7R5/Batis 25mm/2 as this lens is one of the closer lenses to the Summilux in specs.  The copy I bought many years ago is a fairly good copy and provides excellent IQ.

Shots were taken fairly wide open at f/2.8 at ISO 50.  Didn’t have as much time and patience to take more AND decided to ensure little motion blur with very short SS.  Enough words…. I am very happy with what I see from the Q3 and it will be on my hip most of the time.  Good balance between bright and shadow areas.  I will probably boost slightly the saturation and contrast in the in-camera Jpeg.  And a note: the A7R5 also did a remarkably good job at default settings. But since this is a Leica forum, I will just sing the praises of the new beast.  If any of you has any desire to see the A7R5 images I will display them in another post.

Bob, a very pleased Leica Q3 owner!

the High resolution certainly brings out the detail in the Seagull Guano . which is really too bad.  Ya know I have been wondering if chasing higher resolution is really that good an idea ?.

I took this one today, I was walking the grounds, I looked over and saw this guy walking toward me, I grabbed my camera, which was hanging on my side, and, of course, it was "sleeping", brought it up and hit the shutter a couple of times, I didn't think it had woken up in time, so didn't bother to look.  When I got home and downloaded the card, there were two of the maybe three I had tripped the shutter for.  It nailed the focus that fast.  I am still amazed at what this camera is capable of.

Perhaps I had a bad copy.  It is known to happen even with Leica.

The native distortion on the lens is really high so this kind of corner performance is expected, especially with stars. You’d have to crop in to 35mm to have better corners as then you’re cropping out where most of the stretching in the image happens.
