It can be me, but I have the feeling that this lens really differentiates in the areas before the focus plane. Bokeh behind, all lenses have, but this is spectacular.

which is a pity, as I hoped i could go with a 75/2 or different portrait lens….

Even further away, the 50 1.4 has a great rendering before and after the focal plane:

SL2-S, Summilux-SL 50 @f/1.4
A bit too much contamination between natural light from the window and internal room lighting. I was using flash for other headshots, but she had chosen a highly reflective skin make-up!

I wish I could do more on location food photography with the 50 Lux.  The minimum focus distance sometimes jams me up.  It’s one of the reasons I still also have the 50 APO SL.

I also think the same . I am surprised at minimum focus distance of APO 50 SL. BTW how do like APO as compared to Summilux . I haven’t seen anything like APO Summilux yet. Q series 28 mm comes close

I’ve always liked all of my APO Summicron-SL lenses, but thought the 50 was lagging behind the 35 and 75 in terms of sharpness.  Recently I was comparing some shots I took with the 50 APO vs the 50 Lux to really see the differences on the SL3.  I was only taking photos of my cat but noticed that they eyes were consistently sharper with the Lux at 1.4 than the APO at f2.  Looking back at some of my other photos taken with the 50 APO I’m seeing the same thing.  Whenever my 50 APO updates its firmware it is much louder than my other lenses - the motor makes a whirring/grinding noise.  After speaking with Leica SOHO they were concerned that the APO was showing less sharpness than the Lux.  I am going to try to raise the shutter speeds and test it some more, but I think it may need to go to Leica to be checked.

I think your lens may be a bad copy. I have the 90 and 50 APO and - to my eyes - they perform the same in terms of sharpness.
