If there's a new lens, my bet is it's a collapsible 50mm reissue and updated for digital.

I have a 50 mm 2.0 Heliar collapsible that was split from the 250th Anniversary set. It doesn't collapse very much and there are no half stops for 11 or 16 but it's a good lens on film, never tried it on digital. Can't wait for the October surprise!

Wouldn’t that be very similar to Elmar-M 50 2.8 re-issue?

I expect something with a much higher profit margin. They reissued the 50 noct 1.2 so that’s why I think an expensive 35 reissue makes the most sense.

The steel rim or the double aspherical is what I’m betting on. They could charge a ton for either of them and they would still be cheaper than what the originals go for on the used market.

So far, the speculation has brought us an updated M6 with a electronic shutter and a 1/4000th top speed. Perhaps in an entirely new, updated body, paired with a new version of the exceedingly rare steel rim 35 Summilux and a collapsible 50 Summicron (optimized for digital, just for good measure) as our October release. Now with that fairly high bar, a warmed over CM would be disappointing. Sometimes you have to dream big.

Yes. My basis for thinking so is because in the last Leica charity auctions there was a gold MP with the Elmar-M. Produced in 2020. It leads me to imagine Leica has revived the production process for that lens and was in development since 2020.

Good thing LUF doesn’t have built in rumors gambling. I imagine I would lose a lot of money 😂

I’m betting on…

October: no new film M camera, the SL3 with a new prime lens, and a re-issue vintage 35mm M lens. They would make a fortune re-issuing a 35 1.4 limited edition in black paint and general availability in silver. Plus it would likely be easier to manufacturer than a 35 APO M. Easy money for Leica.

2023: M6 classic remake.

It would make more sense to bring a new compact 35mm autofocus film camera to market.

It’s cheaper to make, easier for (younger) people to use, and doesn’t have to cost $5 000.

The reason Kodak has doubled film sales since 2015, isn’t Leica M shooters.

An updated aluminium CM?

Someone is trying to sell a CM for almost $4k on fredmiranda.com.  Not even in ‘mint’ condition.  A new $2k CM type camera would do well.

It’s really amazing how Leica warps our ideas as to what is good value!

There is no way it'll be $2000 though...

Leica should restrict the limited numbers to silver like they did with the 50 1.2 Noct, because who cares about the silver. Let the rest of us mere mortals have access to the black paint lenses, FFS.

I was in a local second hand camera shop that specialises in Leica today. We chatted about the rumours and they seemed very sure that it was an M6 Classic limited reissue. No tweaks, no higher shutter speeds and a limited run. They weren't sure if it would be sold bundled with a lens.

Doesn’t it seem that Leica bundles all it’s limited edition cameras w a lens?

Still not sure I get the rationale behind re-releasing an M6 of any kind when the MP already exists.  What's the point?

20th anniversary of when it was discontinued. I think close to 40 year anniversary from when it was launched. Leica cares a lot about heritage so it seems like a smart business decision. I might have the dates slightly incorrect. Pretty sure 2023 and 2024 are the years, but I don’t recall exactly.
