hirohhhh Posted February 25, 2022 Share #1 Posted February 25, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I remember I seen on pictures some black paint M lenses, but they are nowhere to be found in stores. Are those lenses regularly produced, or these that I saw was some kind of special editions?
Advertisement Posted February 25, 2022 Posted February 25, 2022 Hi hirohhhh, Take a look here Black paint lenses. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ianman Posted February 25, 2022 Share #2 Posted February 25, 2022 Usually special editions I think.
jakontil Posted February 25, 2022 Share #3 Posted February 25, 2022 Very special editions not to mention the material used for the barrels, brass is the more sought after
Jeff S Posted February 25, 2022 Share #4 Posted February 25, 2022 The LHSA special editions, unlike some of the Leica limited editions, remain limited by number. But these are generally sold out quickly, before even available for general purchase. There are currently, however, some high quality third party black paint M lenses from Voigtlander and Light Lens Lab, the latter offering Leica remakes such as the recent 35 Summicron 8 element. Capuccino-Muffin Posted February 25, 2022 Share #5 Posted February 25, 2022 The 35 summicron asph, especially, was totally snubbed by the market for a loooong time. It remained largely unsold just because it was more expensive by 2-500$ Even the 50 lux pre asph bp was not exactly a fast seller. But it still was much more desirable than the 35 cron asph. Took years to vanish from the market. I should have bought 5. Still lucky to have my own copy.

shirubadanieru Posted February 26, 2022 Share #8 Posted February 26, 2022 Problem with these lenses is that although I love the finish they are just too damn heavy, weighting 100~150g more than the regular model. If it wasn’t for that, I’d get it one, but given I treasure weight over finish I stay away from BP lenses
ianman Posted February 26, 2022 Share #9 Posted February 26, 2022 I’ve not really thought about the weight and it has certainly never bothered me. But then I also use a 75mm Summilux 90mm APO Summicron and Thambar, so not exactly a stranger to heavy lenses. That being said i prefer small size over low weight any day! I like small / light lenses, below 250g ideally, and maximum below 300g. All black paint lenses are over 300g, closer to 400g. Some over. Just not for me. If you're ok with it that's totally cool by me but I do know some people like me enjoy small & light lenses. Jeff S Posted February 27, 2022 Share #13 Posted February 27, 2022 Various third party black paint M lenses, e.g., from CV and LLL, are light and compact. Jeff

Al Brown Posted February 28, 2022 Share #15 Posted February 28, 2022 Leica should have totally offered a BP lux or a BP cron with M10-R BP. Guaranteed sale here. I wish there was an easy way to make my M42 black paint Biotar 5.8cm T* rangefinder coupled.

Al Brown Posted February 28, 2022 Share #17 Posted February 28, 2022 It has to be at least 800 grit for this passive-aggressive joke to work.
rramesh Posted March 5, 2022 Share #18 Posted March 5, 2022 The Voigtlander Ultron f/2 II has a version that is black paint over brass. Really compact and nice.

Yes, and it is very, very good corner to corner even wide open. Possibly a one-to-rule-them-all lens (if having to pick just one). Welcome, dear visitor! rramesh Posted March 6, 2022 Share #20 Posted March 6, 2022 (edited) The 35 8-element from Light Lens Lab is also very good and rivals the original. However I passed on it as I didn't believe in paying a high price for a 'replica'. Edited March 6, 2022 by rramesh
