I talked to Leica SoHo (Craig) about the possibility of the 14312 strap rubbing on my new M10 Monochrom.  He was very familiar with the issue, and was kind enough to send me a couple of leather flaps that he likes to use that fit over the lugs and under the strap connector.  He texted me photos showing that the flap keeps the plastic slider on the strap from ever coming in contact with the top plate.  Great solution, and service.  It's my favorite M strap anyway, and now I can put it on the M10M without concern.

I need to buy another strap, in this case for an M2.  My favorite has always been the #14312, and I have it on all my cameras, including my M10.  Are these "flaps" available for sale somewhere?  I'd just as soon not make any marks on my M10 needlessly, but I never worried about this kind of issue before.

Call Craig at Leica SoHo (unless you think the call will distract him from his store duties).  😉

Straps and bags are so subjective and even then, sometimes we feel like something different from  time to time.

I have no complaints about my Rock n Roll strap after almost 5 months of use but 2 days ago I became more curious about rope straps after looking at one wrapped around a lens in one of the "What's in My Bag" threads.

5 months ago, a rope strap was unthinkable and now I must have one. I was about to purchase the Leica COOPH rope strap in red and then came across Hyperion straps made in Greece. They seem to be popular (albeit most reviewers appear to use them on Fujis) but I managed to purchase two (black with red binding as well as olive with brown binding) for about US$34 from memory. They are supposed to be great quality and a better cheaper option than most others. I added some leather protector rings for about $2.

I say check them out and I'll let you know what I think when they arrive.

I ordered more of the #14312 steps.  Leica has two almost identical straps, one leather, and the other fiber.  I always used to get leather, but I bought a fiber one by mistake.  I fell in love with it, and have since bought two more (from KEH).  All but one were fine - that one (the last one I ordered) didn't have the metal rings on it.  I had some extra rings, but they were the wrong size.

The leather strap looks "better", but the fiber strap (for me) is more comfortable.

Cooph or same style rope is comfortable and secure

and of course I always plug for my favourite Artisan and Artist cases, as they:

  1. Protect right up to the top edge
  2. Are compact
  3. Beautifully made
  4. Quite reasonably priced considering

I agree, that is pricey, but ...it's a Leica Leather Strap. Probably very finely made, very high quality and could last a long time.
Typical of Leica.

Its not a Leica strap. Its zegna.  They have their finger in many ultra expensive markets.

yes. understood, what was meant is that it's a Leica branded product and likely has their spin on it.
I do not think Leica makes leather goods and soft goods in house.

I was on a business trip to Queenstown, NZ a couple of weeks ago and took my M10. On my first day there I went for a walk between meetings with my Rock n Roll leather strap.

Unfortunately, the black dye from the strap rubbed off on the collar of my new white business shirt and I had to purchase another one. I was disappointed that the dye was still coming off after 6 months of use, although this was the first time I had noticed it.

This morning, my two Hyperion rope straps arrived. Until this evening, I had been skeptical as to whether a rope strap would work for me, particularly because they didn't seem all that comfortable. However, I have no complaints after wearing my camera for 2 hours.

The next question involved the quality of the straps. Being much cheaper in price than the COOPH rope straps I looked at in a store in Auckland, I was concerned that there would be compromises in quality. These straps are very well made from the rope to the binding. I conducted a couple of stress tests including pulling on it with my body weight to test the eope and the binding. I also rubbed a sharp edge against the strap expecting to see the rope fray but it held surprisingly well.

The hundreds of reviews I read for these straps were mostly 5 star and I am surprised to find myself agreeing.
