Tapping while taking pictures, you mean with the nose? Just kidding but i must be too old or stupid to use those smartphone cameras. Do you know if it is possible to revert to the previous firmware?

BEFORE taking pictures, as with time-consuming layered menus.

Just tried it to no avail. The gameboy err. camera says "update file version is older than current firmware".

<plants tongue firmly in cheek>

did you try renaming the file to v4.01?

I would'nt dare... First time i regret a firmware update in 15+ years. I should have known better. They are so proud to find new gimmicks that they don't even think some people may wish to disable them... I use mostly profiles fortunately.

- Favourites screen: this is pretty much redundant for me now - I just have Format and Self Timer left.

Just did the same (but I also left the Electronic Shutter option in the Favourites menu).

I like the new interface. Can't see any disadvantage and the camera looks fresh again 🙂

I guess this unexpected firmware update is Leica's attempt to keep us happy while waiting a bit longer for the CL2. Fine with me.

No. But it is a perfect control center  You tap the parameter you want to control and use the right wheel to change it. Saves a lot of menu work. I think it is a vast improvement. The rest are just minor tweaks and gimmicks.

I agree, it is a vastly improved camera now with Firmware 4, thanks Leica, though its a pity it took three years. Don

I also agree. I love the new menu display. So intuitive and quick to access commonly changed parameters.

I've also added Electronic Shutter to my Favourites, and Focus Assist.

I would still rather not have the Favourites menu (now we have four places to find things: physical buttons/dials, Status Screen, Favourites and Menus. Not quite Das Wesentliche, IMO. If we could use the FN button (plus the one more missing button that the CL has always needed) for A/B toggle actions that would eliminate my need for a Favourites screen e.g.

- Electronic shutter on/off

- Manual focus on/off

- Face Detect/Spot (one of my most common actions, always needed in the heat of the moment).

But assigning toggle actions to buttons has been missing since the SL, where I would also want them, and which already has enough buttons. I wonder if there is something fundamental in the firmware that stops this option, though I don't see how it could.

I am really happy with the new firmware. Mainly because I have also the SL2 and will now have the same menu approach.

One, perhaps stupid, question : wouldn’t it have been possible to have also the GPS function like the SL2 ? I know, most of the time it doesn’t work but I still hope that Leica will be able (!?!?) to correct this problem.

Hmm. I realize it's likely a matter of my always using M and R lenses, but the way I have my camera setup I only very very rarely need to touch any menus at all. Aperture on the lens, focus on the lens, either EV comp or shutter speed on the left dial, focus mag on the right dial, ISO on right button, self timer on FN button. That's all I use 99% of the time.  :D

There are a number of quite effective phone apps like GPS4cam. I guess that there was. no space left for the hardware in the camera.

It should be possible to get the GPS information through the WLAN connection with the phone ?

Well, you won't be going into the menu very often anyway, so it should make little difference to you. However should you want to make a setting change during shooting, it is a time and effort saver.

I'm not sure why everyone is always mentioning "the CL2". Is it so necessary that a newer model must be coming soon for you? Are you not happy with the CL as it is?

I was pretty happy with the CL just as it was when I bought it; all the fw updates since then have done nothing but add value to my original delight with the camera. There's very little I'm looking for in any kind of upgrade beyond the notion of wanting a dedicated port for a wired remote release.

No they work differently by synchronizing phone and camera time on import into the computer

Can't come soon enough as far as I am concerned; it would give me the opportunity to buy a cheap second body :D

It's a bit of a giggle. I'm finding I spend more time trying to figure out the icons and what function they're indicating than I do just tapping the menu button to the right menu and making the setting. And that half the icons on the screen I have no use for whatever. :)

The same is true of the touch screen interface on my Hasselblad 907x, but that's editable. I have it down to just four function icons now: All the other functions I find it easier to go to the master menu and do what I need to do.

I am seriously trying to understand which icon you have to figure out, given that most of them are alphanumeric and they are identical to the ones that you have in the EVF info anyway...

I guess you are just playing at being ornery :p
