...... errr ....from the look and dimensions this actually looks more like an M with an EVF with stolen touch screen menu from the TL.

Unless this has some really crappy insides or is much more expensive it will kill the T .....  :(

I sorely doubt that.  Increasing the options in the same mount will drive lens sales and interest in L mount cameras across the board, in my view.

Once we line up the TL2 with the new camera, there is sufficient difference to drive sales of both.  If it doesn't, I will happily keep using my TL2 ...

This camera is aimed at a different, more conservative audience than the TL. I don't think it will have the screen controls like the T has, but more conventional menus. Although it will hvesome border traffic with the present-day TL owners, in the long run the cameras will appeal to different user groups. Speaking for myself, I havenever been attracted to the modernism of the T series, but I do like the Barnack echoes in the X cameras, including this one.

If Leica is smart it will have the 3.6 MP OLED EVF of the GH5, which is even better than the SL.

Kind of awkward that they opted for buttons instead of the more recent and IMO more convenient joystick...

The TL-line is (IMO again) dead in the water if the built-in EVF and AF deliver.

I would not advice Leica to make this more expensive than the a7riii though...

What a let down. I can see people cancelling their attendance of “Das Unwesentliche“ and TL2 buyers asking for a refund.

Not to me.  This looks like the 24 MPx 1.5X "extender" for use with the 90-280 that some have called for.  Should be nice to use with the TL zooms and its f/2.0 primes.  Without an optical viewfinder, however, it is probably not an X-Pro-2 killer.

Edit:  I, too, am curious about what Jono will have to say.  He has been quiet lately, although he posts stuff on Facebook.  Have to check to see if the Exif has disappeared on those.  He didn't care for using the TL2 with its external viewer, and liked arms' length photography even less.

I won’t draw final conclusions until I actually examine this in store and shoot some frames onto my own card for examination on my computer. But my hopes include:

* IBIS,

* SL-grade EVF,

* SL’s autofocus speed,

* weather resistance,

* ruggedized mount for use with long lenses like 90-280mm

IOW, I’m looking for a “mini SL”, professional-grade, APS camera capable of some wildlife and fast-action photography.

However, my guess is that Leica’s XL design goal was for an interchangeable-lens X, great for family and travel photography, adaptable to M, SL, and R lenses, and built with traditional Leica materials, fit, and finish. They probably want to sell to a broad cross-section of Leica users, and expand TL lens sales.

But I’m a fan of their SL professional family, and hope they soon push those capabilities into APS-C for added reach, and for the weight/size savings. And autofocus SPEED and ACCURACY are extremely important to me.

Exactly. They seem to have done half as well as hoped for by some. They've increased the SOW (share of wallet) with existing users but they haven't really grown the TAM (total addressable market). See also jjb's comments above what this would have entailed. Let's keep our fingers crossed on the AF performance. Otherwise they won't have much to talk about on Nov. 22 except that they managed to integrate an EVF with the TL2 and put it in a classic body. Yawn.

Really ugly. It seems that Leica has abandoned the pure lines of design used on the SL and the M10. I still don’t know why they don’t continue with the successful experience of the Q and make a FF camera with M mount (or TL mount) and EVF.

Last but not least, anybody knows when the M10 Monochrom is coming?

So right. Many of us are hoping isn’t the final design.

On the M10 monochrome, I am waiting too. Was funny to me they just released a Canadian M special edition with Red body but is on a 240 platform and not M10!!! What is going on with that?, I wondered. Canada deserves latest version.

The M240 is still in production and a current camera, for those who want a fully-featured M.

And Leica has the habit of leaking to Leica Rumors and keeping something up their sleeve as a surprise.

I don't know about that, another expensive APS-C camera is not going to get many new Leica customers, and existing Leica customers would already just get the TL. And, perhaps the Q is a better option for people who just want a camera, as this XY+Lens will be more expensive.

It seems very odd to me, mostly people are wanting some other camera from Leica ... its a bit strange.

All good things to hope for.  My fondest hope is that Leica uses this product to try out IBIS, which is easier when the sensor is smaller.
