Chaemono Posted November 8, 2017 Share #362 Posted November 8, 2017 I must say, I find the responses more interesting than the camera! If it has Sony α6300/α6500 snappy AF, a great EVF, and a handgrip is offered to balance the SL zooms nicely with it, it could appeal to a broader user base than just those who are looking for a nice little travel camera.

helged Posted November 8, 2017 Share #364 Posted November 8, 2017 The estetics is one aspect, but isn't the operation, versatility, output and cost more (most) important? Too early to tell, obviously. But if the rumoured af speed is approximately correct ('crazy speed' if I am not mistaken), and if the sensor is on par with that of the TL2, I am in...

ynp Posted November 8, 2017 Share #366 Posted November 8, 2017 Liked it in silver more. Very interested to see a real world review. I love my X-U it's my daily camera now.
UliWer Posted November 8, 2017 Share #367 Posted November 8, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Interchangeable Q? If you look at the measurement photos the depth seems to be 58mm - the protruding bayonet ring included, viewfinder not included. A Q has 93mm - needed for the full format sensor. The X has 78mm - according to the specs published by Leica, though they include some body protrusions like knobs etc. So I'd say the body would not be deep enough for the FF-sensor of the Q, but would be o.k. for an APS-C sensor.
FlashGordonPhotography Posted November 8, 2017 Share #368 Posted November 8, 2017 I'm always wrong about these things but.... * The battery door looks wrong. Early specs said it used the TL battery. However it may share Panasonic DNA instead. * There's no door for anything. No USB port. No mic or headphones. Nothing. * That LCD display on the top is from 1975. And Leica don't use them. They have great rear screens and be done with it. * Buttons from the M10 and selector from the Q. But it has to have a touchscreen because there's not enough buttons. I figured we'd keep either the SL OR TL menus and layout rather than this weird hybrid. It looks like an early prototype, complete with PRXXX serial number. I'm usually wrong so bet against me but this doesn't look like a finished product. Gordon
IkarusJohn Posted November 8, 2017 Share #369 Posted November 8, 2017 I'm usually wrong too - I also don't think this is the camera for release. The detailing is nothing like the quality of the SL, M10 or TL2 - parts bin, more like.

They are teasing us with these photos released of prototypes. The ones that didn’t make the cut. Something, for me, just off about it.

I don't think that's the way it works. The TL and SL have the same Slim flange difference. If this thing has an L mount it could be either by definition. I'm confident it's APSC but it's not to do with body depth. Gordon
Cliff S Posted November 8, 2017 Share #373 Posted November 8, 2017 Having the suggested name of XY, I would suspect APS-C as do all the X series.

Those dimensions for the Q and X113 are front to back including lenses - nothing to do with this new body, unless I'm misunderstanding your post. For the body, the thickness, in principle, can be the same whatever the sensor size as long as it is an L mount.
UliWer Posted November 8, 2017 Share #376 Posted November 8, 2017 Yes, I misinterpreted the measurements given by Leica - of course the lens is included for the Q and X. For the SL they give a meagre 39mm - not including many protrusions.

Never liked having to search for current settings on rear LCD or EVF. Hope it has a built-in GPS. I "fear" the new camera will be selling so good that it will be hard to get for quite a while. thighslapper Posted November 8, 2017 Share #378 Posted November 8, 2017 ...... errr ....from the look and dimensions this actually looks more like an M with an EVF with stolen touch screen menu from the TL. Unless this has some really crappy insides or is much more expensive it will kill the T .....

Unless this has some really crappy insides or is much more expensive it will kill the T ..... It is more of an X body with an EVF that accepts TL lenses. I see its main differentiation to the TL the more classical body style. I think both can coexist.
miro Posted November 8, 2017 Author Share #380 Posted November 8, 2017 Calm down ! The XY is a IIIf for the 21st Century . According to Ken Rockwell , the IIIf sold for the equivalent of $3500 in it's day . And looks wise , the IIIf was no George Clooney .
