Asiatic Lilies. Adan mentioned contrast control with Mandler lenses when shooting color images and it applies equally to b&w. I just very slightly increased the black in this image and didn't touch the whites (the lilies are a pure white in reality).

Well honestly i don't see that but perhaps i'm becoming color blind...

I also see this as a clean gray with no magenta tint.

Better check your screen profiling, especially white point. ;)

That hair reads:

in the dark shadow, about 39R, 25G, 25B
in the lighter parts, about 136R, 116G, 113B

Those aren't grays. It's rendered as a red shade. It'll print as a red shade.

Looking at the grey hair in LAB colour space gives around:

L: between 10 and 66 (luminance information)

A: +7 (14% red)

B: +7 (14% blue)

To my eye the hair looks grey but for it to actually be shades of pure grey both A and B channels would need to be zero so LAB agrees with Andy.

Pete.

Who can tell whether this is a property of the medium and not the result of reflections in reality, let alone specifically connected to (non-)Mandler lenses?

This is real light the way i see it folks. Not the same in Colorado as in Normandy i suspect. Another one from there. Mandler or not?

Yes, when significantly enlarging the image on my monitor I can see the red/magenta. I stand corrected. My monitor is fine. My eyes were the problem.
