Sorry, the whole car TO ME looks like from a weird sci-fi comic. If Austin Powers would have played the real 007 James Bond, this should have been his car instead of the Union Jack E-Type he had here and here (car at min. 2.00).

Thanks for the laugh I needed a spell of uncontrollable laughter today!

I like to thank John for posting this car. The story of it is most interesting. I only knew other (older) Stanguellini Bertones.

When you google pictures I think a direct front view is the most nicest side to look at it. A side view is really strange.

That Spohn Veritas is based on a Veritas SP90 Cabriolet. It was rebuild by Spohn in 1949 and delivered in early 1950 to the US client. It was a pretty modern design for 1949, the famous GM Le Sabre showcar came almost a year later!

Now the funny part: You can buy it! A dealer only a stones through away from me offers it for 349 k €. As a BMW 328 guy I should go and check it 😉

The 2nd buyer (1965) was not familiar with the special BMW engine and couldn´t get it running, so he decided to sell it to his friend Lee Hartung where it remained in the collection for a long time.

Without our little NTC thread I would have never thought this vehicle will be stored so close to me soon. I knew the car from period press reports. Crazy stuff 😉

p.s. For those who think it is just dead aluminum, you should check this video from 2013.

Hektor -

This may be a very clever crop to throw us off.  Other than the position of the inside rear-view mirror it looks like a 300 SL Gullwing.  assuming nobody moved the mirror, the mounting of this mirror suggests something considerably newer than the MB,

That looks more like an E-Type Jaguar.

Hello Stuart,  I assume the adhesive rear-vision mirror was to be able to see over the fitted luggage:

That's the one..........I should have known better than to post yet another car from the 2015 Pebble Beach Concours.

1957 FIAT Stanguellini Bertone Spyder one-off, designed by Franco Scaglione, and assisted by Vittorio Stanguellini. Quite a few styling elements and tricks from the Alfa BAT series of cars of the same period ( also by Scaglione ) were incorporated in this design excersize.

A lovely little car, but it was deemed much too expensive for to achieve any sort of commercial success.

Your turn, Hector

Can’t believe I never thought of that FIAT but I’ve never seen it “in the metal”.
As others have said the full side view and rear quarters don’t seem to gel with the front end. Definitely had clocked the BAT styling cue but I headed off in a Harley Earl/corvette prototype direction.
Given that I was just looking over a 612 (Scaglietti) - still my favourite reasonably realistic (vs fantasy- land) Ferrari, which sports an echo of those front flank scoops, I should have pulled out his coachbuilding history…🙄

Thanks for posting this one.

Thank you, Hektor.   Although I have one to post now, I anticipate seeing another one tomorrow, so all please be patient - It will probably be another 30 hours before I post the next mystery car.

Whilst Stuart is out hunting his prey I thought a few members here might be interested to read up a little bit more about the Union Flag E-Type mentioned by Ronald.

The Short Version;

It transpires two cars were created; one RHD for use in the film and one LHD for promotional duties Stateside. The RHD example had, at one time, been in the collection of the Jaguar Heritage Trust Museum at Browns Lane but its exact whereabouts nowadays appears to be a bit of a mystery. The LHD one passed into - and through - a number of private hands (one 'departure' being under slightly amusing circumstances) and was subsequently added to the collection of a particular Serene Highness of a small Meditteranean Principality where - AFAIK - it remains to this day. Grace Kelly and the Austin Powers E-Type?! Fortunate Chap!!!...

The longer version - for anyone wishing to read a bit more - here are a couple of links;
