wlaidlaw Posted July 3, 2021 Share #15584 Posted July 3, 2021 Those look like Hallicrafter/Hallibrand American wheels. Wilson

Best Regards, Michael No Michael, not British Wilson, I am not positively sure if those are or are not Halibrands, but considering who produced this car I doubt they would allow Yankee aftermarket bits on their car, even though they may look a little like Halibrands. I hesitate offering more pictorial clues since I believe that any additional visual hints would immediately give it away, so I'll confine it to say that it's a a first attempt by this manufacturer to build a limited production sports car. stuny Posted July 3, 2021 Share #15586 Posted July 3, 2021 John - Your hints seem to eliminate any European car company owned by an American car company. This looks rather promising. I look forward to seeing the car.
wlaidlaw Posted July 3, 2021 Share #15587 Posted July 3, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) In their era, Hallibrand wheels were way better than most after market wheels. They were OEM on Cunninghams, Shelby Cobras, Ford GT40's and others, including many Indianapolis roadsters. Their main business was making aircraft wheels, which they had been doing since the 1940's and their automotive wheels were made to very high/aviation standards. They really were the innovators and developers of high quality rigid and lightweight alloy wheels for sports and GT cars, in place of wire wheels. We used to use a set of their forged magnesium wheels on our 275LM, for racing (normally for occasional road use, it had a set of Borrani wires). I have the original military green painted Hallibrand aluminium case for my 1950's Combat Graflex KE-6 kit, comprising the 70mm camera, 2½", 4" and 8" Kodak lenses, flash and filters. John Z. Goriup Posted July 3, 2021 Share #15588 Posted July 3, 2021 Wilson, you're correct. Didn't mean to dismiss the Halibrands, nor to imply they weren't top-quality wheels, after all, Halibrands in their time were the wheels of choice for American racers, 'hot rodders' and most Indy cars, but this car was an attempt by a large, non-American car company to create a breakthrough sports car to capture the attention of buyers and to compete in the market world-wide during the Ford GT era and the introduction of the then new Porsche 911. I suspect the manufacturer's marketing department decided to spec wheels that looked like Halibrands, but were probably made in the same country in which the car in question was manufactured ..............at least that's my guess, for all I know, they could be Halibrands. Photo of the quiz car's wheel, with the center cap blanked out.....don't let the American tires fool you. JZG Welcome, dear visitor! John Z. Goriup Posted July 4, 2021 Share #15593 Posted July 4, 2021 ........and a side view. Designed in a joint venture between Toyata & Yamaha - nice car, for the time ( '66 - '70} but not very fast and too expensive. Brings big money nowadays. JZG Welcome, dear visitor! hektor Posted July 5, 2021 Share #15600 Posted July 5, 2021 (edited) I first saw this car at the local shops when I was a teenager and it hasn't changed in fifty years. The body is by an obscure Australian coach-builder so it is only fair to provide the whole car. The make is easy, but what about the model and year: Welcome, dear visitor!
