Advertisement Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Hi josephgalilee, Take a look here I love my M2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
SteveYork Posted May 15, 2011 Share #242 Posted May 15, 2011 I've been thinking about trying one of these M2s. My Dad had one in the late 50's/ very early 60's (somewhere in that time frame). His stepmother who used an M3 got it for him. But he wasn't much of a photographer, and when he was in the military, fulfilling his draft commitment as a flight surgeon, he got it stolen when he was on sea duty (USS Boxer, I believe). I have too many other cameras, including an M4, but I always think I should get "dad's camera." But then I would have to get "grandmother's camera" too. It's a slippery slope. BobYIL Posted May 27, 2011 Share #245 Posted May 27, 2011 All three still have the original "L" seals, two operate perfectly but the one in the middle needs CLA, as the slower speeds "stretch"... ChiILX1 Posted July 4, 2011 Share #251 Posted July 4, 2011 Happy to finally say +1 here. 1959 M2- lever rewind no self timer (my favorite combo) 1959 5cm Summicron collapsible with original hood 1959 9cm Elmar collapsible with original hood Leitz e39 uva filter (for color) Leitz e39 ggr light green filter (for black and white) Leica-METER-M working perfectly Original brown full everready case Black Bag Label New York made black strap with white stitching Black Match Technical Satin Beep Black Levant genuine leather vulcanite done myself from cameraleather.com (which with the strap creates an awesome leather-smell experience when raising the camera to my eye) CLA by DAG Lovely brassing on rewind knob and advance lever Portra 160 VC and NC for color and experimenting with different black and white films right now. Photo from my X1 with Silver EFX in Aperture I have to say the first set of prints form this camera took my breath away. I even got an amazing shot of Governor Blagojevich nervously adjusting his tie as he exited his SUV on his way into hear the verdict of the court. It's unreal! I have to admit it blows the quality of my X1 away. I can't stop shooting with this camera. I'm doing everything I can not to sleep with it in my hands. Welcome, dear visitor! minks73 Posted August 20, 2011 Share #253 Posted August 20, 2011 I love it. Clear, bright viewfinder including framelines for 35mm! Clean lines and appearance (even compared to the M3). Just a beauty. Welcome, dear visitor! ChiILX1 Posted August 20, 2011 Share #254 Posted August 20, 2011 Gorgeous! What's that lens on the far right? It looks like a lot of lenses I know but not precisely.
minks73 Posted August 20, 2011 Share #255 Posted August 20, 2011 Thanks! The one on the far right is the 35mm f/3.5 Summaron.
ChiILX1 Posted August 20, 2011 Share #256 Posted August 20, 2011 Awesome! I thought it may have been that. I was looking at those- screw mount right? How do you like it? ( sample images?) Also what are your other lenses? Thanks!
minks73 Posted August 20, 2011 Share #257 Posted August 20, 2011 (edited) It's an M bayonet mount from '54. It brings up 50mm lines in the finder and needs external finder although I use it without. I like it. Not as sharp as my pre-asph summicron 35mm (but not a fair comparison) but still sharp enough. Has some dark edges wide open but performs nicely stopped down to 5.6 or 8. I don't have an example of wide-open low light situation but couple samples are attached. In addition, I have 50mm and 21mm. Welcome, dear visitor!
