I've been thinking about trying one of these M2s. My Dad had one in the late 50's/ very early 60's (somewhere in that time frame). His stepmother who used an M3 got it for him. But he wasn't much of a photographer, and when he was in the military, fulfilling his draft commitment as a flight surgeon, he got it stolen when he was on sea duty (USS Boxer, I believe).

I have too many other cameras, including an M4, but I always think I should get "dad's camera." But then I would have to get "grandmother's camera" too. It's a slippery slope.

All three still have the original "L" seals, two operate perfectly but the one in the middle needs CLA, as the slower speeds "stretch"... A Sunday job..

I like mine with a glass of wine. First batch button rewind with my pre-asph 35 lux - my favourite travel combination.

Chris,

Absolutely! I bought this M2 RW used here in the UK. I bought my normal RW from Tom A himself when I was over in Vancouver.

Best wishes,

Lovely brassing on rewind knob and advance lever

Portra 160 VC and NC for color and experimenting with different black and white films right now.

Photo from my X1 with Silver EFX in Aperture

I have to say the first set of prints form this camera took my breath away. I even got an amazing shot of Governor Blagojevich nervously adjusting his tie as he exited his SUV on his way into hear the verdict of the court. It's unreal! I have to admit it blows the quality of my X1 away. I can't stop shooting with this camera. I'm doing everything I can not to sleep with it in my hands.

I love it. Clear, bright viewfinder including framelines for 35mm! Clean lines and appearance (even compared to the M3). Just a beauty.

It's an M bayonet mount from '54. It brings up 50mm lines in the finder and needs external finder although I use it without. I like it. Not as sharp as my pre-asph summicron 35mm (but not a fair comparison) but still sharp enough. Has some dark edges wide open but performs nicely stopped down to 5.6 or 8. I don't have an example of wide-open low light situation but couple samples are attached. In addition, I have 50mm and 21mm.

Bump.

Yesterday, with my M2 at the beach. It is 'summer' at last, but as I live in The Netherlands, it is autumn already. :)
