No.

I already possess a D-Lux 7: this camera is very good, compact and perfect for someone like me who travels whenever he has the occasion. I also wanted a "real" Leica camera without spending too much money. But let's be honest: the D-Lux 7 is but a Panasonic LX100 II with a red spot, and this kinda frustrated me. This camera isn't even made in Germany! So I waited, and by the time I could finally afford a Q2, the Q3 just came out. Now here is a dilemna: both cameras can be purchased for roughly the same price. Logically, I should have gone for the Q3, right?

Wrong.

I've watched several reviews of the Q3 and indeed, it seems to be a substantial improvement compared to the Q2. Most users also say that the differences aren't that big between the two cameras. Whether it comes to 60MP or the 8K video, it's simply not a game changer. The truth is... I don't even need that. I'm not a professional, and as such, 47MP seem more than enough for my needs. Besides, it's already a HUGE improvement compared to the 17MP of my D-Lux 7.

I would even say the Q3 is less well designed than the Q2 because of the tilting screen and above all, the new ports on the left side of the camera. It looks so... cheap, almost ugly. Clearly a downgrade here, I simply don't like these changes. The Q2 is more appealing to me, it has a little something that the Q3 doesn't have.

This is why I ordered the Leica Q2 on the store today.

I understand your thinking. The only things I’d prefer on the Q3 are Improved autofocus, improved syncing to phone, and not needing a battery charger, (I already always pack a USB-C charger.) But why not get a used Q2 and save a couple thousand?

No, because I prefer camera with interchangeable lens mount (M series)

What would most appeal to you about the Q3?

EVF. Would love to see a Q3/M hybrid camera - name it a Q3 with exchangeable lens mount or "M" with EVF instead of rangefinder.

Any other decision from leica except the fixed 28mm would have led to a decrease in sales without a shadow of a doubt and any additional versions with any other focal length than 28mm will result in failure and damage the brilliant success of the Q series cameras, luckily leica know this full well.

No,the rear screen with the fancy but not needed flippy screen ruins the look and pure simplicity of the Q but its not important as i have a Q2 .

street shooters such as myself see the flip screen as a game changer. It and the improved AF is why I sold my Q2 and am on 2 preorder lists for the Q3

Good for you . i mean its hard to imagine anyone doing street photography without a flippy screen.

What about M rangefinder cameras? They do not have a tilting screen, but are really well suited for street photography.

Haven’t you heard the famous quote from Henri Cartier-Bresson:

”J'aurais obtenu la photo si seulement j'avais un écran inclinable!” - HBC

As for the flip screen, I completely agree with you. I had Leica M & Hassy for 30+ years, and I often took the Hassy for this waist  level perspective or near ground level.....and yes that was for street photography.

Yes, I just ordered the Q3 after a trip to Norway equipped with my SL2 / 100-400 and the Q2. Nice combo, but.... after the technical test (SNR, pixel binning, best DNG and low light) of mathphotographer on YouTube i will buy the Q3 for the "better sensor" in low light conditions. I don't think about the AF (I would appreciate to get the better AF in the SL3 soon) and I think it's nice but not necessary to get a tilt screen. But better low light conditions and the possibility to correct the exposure without "noise" is essential for me. We plan our next trip to Spitzbergen end of September and I will carry the same combo with me....Hopefully Q3 instead of Q2. Cabin luggage is restricted to 8 kg - polar lights are waiting :-))

I believe the correct quote is:

”L’écran inclinable est un concept bourgeois.”
