Over the decades I have known some people who did not take to M Leicas and went with other brands. My own reaction to my M6 was one of panic. I had spent all the money I could raise on a camera which I could not focus. After the view-finder was fixed (more money), I found it much like my familiar old friends the M3 and the M2.

My entry into the Leica world... got to the Leica shop and fell in love with this beauty and the matching lens.. some things just can't get seperated once they've come together

edit: to put full information:

Leica M6 ttl chrome 0.58 rangefinder (from a collector... unused and recently checked in Solms) and a brand new Summilux 50 asph chrome... love it

my very second hand M6 was my first Leica purchase.

I guess because it is very 'run in' it is still a favourite; tactile, a work of art, almost jewellery for blokes (!), and with modern lenses does what it says on the tin (sorry, brass).

I did not think twice about a second hand body - how many mechanical objects can you say that of?

In every respect it does everything the Leica manuals promise, I would guess it will for a couple of generations to come.

I get a similar feeling from my MP's, but they haven't yet lived through sturm and drang so they have not got that indefinable 'something' about them.

I can see why some people still use M3's; there is a certain aura to certain machines which cannot be accurately quantified

Another one because I love it and think it's a good shot (taken with my X100)
