Well, I just did graduation weekend with an SL2, an M10M and the CL. The CL and TL lenses got a lot of use at the parties and gatherings where a big honking SL2 with a 24-90 is just too much. Big honking SL2 got used at the ceremonies. Used the 55-135 on the SL2 for the long shots. M10M was my seeing in the dark camera.

I left my M11 at home because I wanted the autofocus capability since this was a lot of people pix.

I remain thoroughly satisfied, dare I say impressed by the TL lenses for their size and quality whether used on SL2 or the CL. I'm keeping them.

When the CL dies there will likely be something like Sigma FPL or something like it to take its place.

I am going to a graduation on the other side of the country next weekend.  Leaving my M10R/M11 at home as though the M system is compact, it is still heavier than the TL2 system and lacks AF.  Will be taking 2 TL2s, the 18, 23 and 35.  Everything will fit in a compact insert that will be carried in a backpack as my personal item in addition to my carry on.

It's an interesting point ... I normally don't think of the R8 and R9 a part of the "R series" since they were not part of the Minolta collaboration as far as I'm aware. .

I still think it's not a statement by Leica at all. It fails to meet so many requirements for any kind of correspondence, even internal memos, that I maintain my doubts. Mere amphigory.

Thank you. Something useful has come from this thread. I've learned a new word. Now I have to find somewhere to use it.

Interesting. But it's not the Minolta I remember from those days. Minolta cameras, as I recall, were well regarded and good sellers. Besides the CL, I extensively used the twin lens reflex Minolta Autocord and it was a quality, reliable, sturdy camera. I had a friend who used a Minolta 35mm SLR and loved it.

I owned three Minolta Autocord cameras ... excellent lenses ... but the Achilles heel on all of them was the focusing lever's finger knob/button ... the knobs break off too easily and on many surviving cameras it's missing ... making focusing awkward unless you have long fingernails.

Amphigory- a rigmarole with apparent meaning which proves to be meaningless.

How have I lived without this word. It fits so many official pronouncements!

I don't have a CL or TL so I haven't been following this dialogue - just stumbled over the press announcement.

Without wishing to be pedantic, it does say another six years so maybe that means six years after expiry of the normal warranty period.

Still not good, but given the pace of change in the technology etc, it's probably as much as could be hoped for.

The funny thing is that this thread keeps talking about there "finally" being an official announcement, but there isn't one, as far as I'm aware.  Just a leaked document from Leica Rumors. Not that I doubt the veracity of the document, but it still doesn't amount to an "official announcement" to customers.

Leica Rumors claim they have found the 'document' in a forum. The document appeared here before they re-published it. It was posted here by a member with a grand total of three posts, two of them here, right at the beginning of this thread. Apparently, no one has heard of him since again.

So, I think you're right and there is indeed much smoke without a fire.

It’s an internal memo for Leica employees. Never meant to be public.
I am pretty sure that Leica did not want to officially announced CL TL2 demise so soon.
They hoped to sell the last units at full price fist. And only then will they announced the fate of the system.

With the leak, it is now a mess.  Worst communication ever.

This is open to debate, and I don't think that it's by Leica. To start with, what on earth is a 'Reactive Statement'? The opposite of a counter-reactive one? And if it was for internal communication only, why is it not classified? Merely writing 'Leica Camera AG' beneath the subject line does not make it a document issued by Leica Camera AG. Further, even if it was an internal memo, it still would show the name and position of the author within the organisation. And then, the content of the body of the text does not make anything clear. If it does not have to be understood, there's no reason for writing it.

Remember that Leica Camera AG is a German enterprise. It operates by German standards. I don't think that thing is by Leica Camera AG at all.

When The Leica Society visited Leica Duke Street last November we were advised that the Duke St. Team have a good laugh about Leica Rumours' "RUMOURS" ... rumours having no foundation and more a case of, "Well ... they would say that ..."  ... and a few of Leica Rumours' incorrect 'stories' were quoted  ... As long as Leica Rumours continues to pump out their 'rumours' ... their 'news before it happens' , their followers will continue to read and follow ... but, and it's an important 'but',  they will also see and maybe read their adverts!!

Of course they are 'R series' cameras. R refers to the lens mount, any R lens mount camera is an R series camera (essentially the same mount as the earlier Leicaflex but with more couplings for the TTL metering and the later ROM electronics).

Not sure there was anything Minolta in R8 and R9 cameras but i may be wrong as i never used one.

If you look carefully there are quite  a few Minolta parts there, albeit rearranged.

🤣 Leica Camera AG is not the CIA.
Wetzlar is quite far away from Langley.

It’s certainly just an email in reaction to forum different threads about the future of CL and to customers asking about a CL2.

What has that to do with anything? Leica is not the CIA; the CIA is not the Roman Catholic Church, The Roman Catholic Church is not the Cremlin; the Cremlin is not ...

There are many organisations which want their secrets to remain secret. Hence, they declare the documents that must not leave the house, the documents that are not to be disclosed before a certain date, the documents that customers or competitors are allowed to see, and so on. That's called a classification. Leica do it.

What I am saying is that nobody inside Leica will track down the leaker, like the CIA will for classified documents.

It is not sensitive. It is a just a guideline to help answering customers and dealers growing questions about CL2 not showing up at the party.
