With the Leica M10-P "Reporter" the german camera manufacturer wants to honor the hard work of reportage photographers. The camera housing has a particularly scratch-resistant dark green finish and is covered with Kevlar fabric - the synthetic fiber that is also used to produce ballistic protective clothing. The M10-P “Reporter” is available at specialist retailers and only 450 units will be available worldwide. As part of the celebrations marking the 40th anniversary of the Leica Oskar Barnack Award, Leica Camera AG presents a special design variant of the Leica M10-P: the M10-P “Reporter” is an uncompromising reportage camera, suitable for even the most challenging conditions. Many Leica cameras throughout the company’s history have been developed with the needs of press and reportage photographers in mind. This is illustrated by exceptional models such as the Leica 250 of 1933, whose film cassette accommodated 250 exposures, or the Leica MP of 1956 – a Leica M3 variant which was equipped with the Leicavit rapid winder, following the suggestions of renowned photographers Alfred Eisenstaedt (1898– 1995) and David Douglas Duncan (1916–2018). With its dark green, particularly scratch-resistant finish and Kevlar camera trim, the Leica M10- P “Reporter” brings to mind the extremely challenging conditions under which many of the most remarkable reportages of our time were created. Kevlar is a synthetic fibre frequently used in the production of ballistic protective clothing. Through exposure to natural UV rays, the camera’s body armour will gradually turn the same colour as its top and base plate. The armour’s diamond-weave texture makes the Leica M10-P “Reporter” especially grippy and comfortable to hold. All of the camera’s engravings are inlaid in light green, resulting in a more discreet effect than the white inlays customarily used on black-finish cameras. In terms of its technical specifications, the M10-P “Reporter” is identical to the serially produced Leica M10- P. The Leica M10-P “Reporter” is available at specialist retailers. farnz Posted January 21, 2021 Share #4 Posted January 21, 2021 I'm a little surprised that Leica didn't also offer a matching 'Reporter' lens (unless I've missed it in the advertising puff). With a camera body that's intended to become more 'stealthy' as it ages then I'd assume that the degree of 'stealthiness' would be undermined by a black or silver lens that doesn't match the aged camera body. But I would like to see it first live and in daylight. The type of green comes a bit close to a WWii military Colditz sphere. And if I would like it, these 450 copies will be gone to pre-orders from collectors who will report with it. Haven't they got something in UN peacekeepers blue? Kwesi Posted January 21, 2021 Share #11 Posted January 21, 2021 I hate to point out the elephant in the room but why wasn't this issued with the new 40mp sensor and the top logo script? that would have made it truly unique amongst all the other M10's. As it is now its a beautiful camera but outside of the collector market it only has functional appeal to an existing standard M10 owner who has no interest in the upgraded sensor and doesn't mind forgoing one of the hallmarks of the P series - the logo script 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

RexGig0 Posted January 21, 2021 Share #16 Posted January 21, 2021 (edited) Well, it is as affordable as other M cameras, if I can manage to budget for it, but I will not know until early March whether I can hope to spend that much money this year, on a camera, and would be unable to pay for it, before the end of March. I reckon that collectors will have pre-ordered all of them, before then. If I do buy a ruggedized camera, in 2021, it will probably be a D6. Whether M10-P Reporter, or Nikon D6, buying a camera in 2021 remains an “IF.” I am not a reporter, but worked big-city police patrol for 33+ years, until I retired in 2018, and my honorably-retired police ID card/credentials might enable me to get somewhat closer to some reportage/photojournalistic situations, if I were to decide to try my hand at doing that. (I just might be able to talk my way right into a police formation, or an incident scene. I still have a Kevlar helmet, and hard body armor, as I bought my own, while still actively employed.) I did not attempt to do any PJ-like shooting, in 2020, because my wife has co-morbidities that would seriously complicate a case of COVID-19, so we have both been avoiding unnecessary contact with people. I am not a PJ, but did work big-city police patrol, mostly at night, plus some extra assignments at large events, and so, saw some PJs and documentary photographers in action, from time to time. I am thinking that a working reporter/PJ would be using a moderate-resolution camera. My current Leica cameras are only 24MP, but my 50MP Canon 5Ds R “demands” that I use lenses with Image Stabilization, when shooting hand-held. Said with respect.
