Hi Jono, nice sunburst here. I recently bought a Q2Mono and have been very disappointed with the way it renders sunbursts ....... the rays appear in a grid-like pattern that look very artificial like a reflection off the sensor grid. Have you had any problems with that? Thanks, Jeff

Hi There Jeff

Indeed, I have seen that with the Q2M, but it doesn't always happen, I think that controlling what happens with such difficult situations as sunbursts and overexposure generally is very hard, and different sensors behave differently. Certainly not all lenses render sunbursts well, and I think it's more often a function of serendipity rather than design

From my experiences shooting the CL into the sun, sensor reflection patterns appear more when the lens is stopped down. Opening up to f4 or wider tends to make them go away.

New guy on the block here.. just registered today after lurking for a week or so (have had my Q2M a little over a week now). The Q2M is pretty much a perfect compact camera for me and I look forward to taking it with me just about everywhere I travel to...

Wish I could upload more images but it seems there are some limits.. I do have some on my site if I'm allowed to share that link?¿

[PS the compression and loss of detail on here is killing me 😭]

Ruskkyle, Thanks so much for this observation. Much appreciated! Oftentimes when shooting into the sun my tendency is to stop down to avoid blown highlights so if it is better to shoot at wide apertures to render optimal sunbursts I guess low ISO and high shutter speed would be the way to go. Has that been your experience?

Best,

Jeff

Yep exactly. Luckily these cameras have electronic shutter which means you can shoot straight into the sun at basically any aperture. No need for ND! Just leave ‘extended shutter’ activated in your menus and the camera will do the hard work.

Feeling a burst of energy this morning, I ventured into Glasgow City Centre with my (relatively) new Q2M:

From a short walk in Patexuent River Park (Maryland, USA) today.  More about the Park is here.  Of course, resolution improves considerably when the shot is viewed on the light-box.  Thank  you.
