The Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn on Dec. 21, 2020.This photo was a huge challenge. I used the Leica Q2 and digiscoping adapter connected to my Swarovski ATS-80 Spotting Scope and on a Sky Watcher star tracker aligned to the North Star. On a tripod of course. Settings are 1/5 sec, f/1.7, ISO 1600. around 30X power on the Swarovski eyepiece. Processed in LR and PS which was fairly extensive to pull the moons out of the background noise and calm down the exposures on both Saturn and Jupiter. It definitely will not win any awards, but I like doing things with the Q2 that are otherwise uncommon and quite challenging. One can almost make out that there are rings around Saturn which is amazing for this very suboptimal setup for astrophotography. The moons of Jupiter: Callisto, Io and Europa are visible. Ganymede is actually in front of the planet and not visible.

Leon. A gentle suggestion. The white balance looks very blue. The snow should be white. Otherwise a nice image.

Thank you Leica Guy, I wanted to do it that way to accentuate the presence of cold....

Thank you for suggestion.

I have a correct white balance here, but still I like the first one more.

I too liked the first one more, you could feel the cold...so much so that I had to turn up the thermostat.🥶

Leon. I seriously like the second one better, but it is art and your interpretation is by definition the right one. Wonderful photo. I love the foreground detail and the two intermediate distance prominences. Trees. Fog on the ground and the distant mountain. Very nice. My least favorite part is the sky. I might consider replacing it with more dramatic clouds. I’d have to play with ideas and not go too crazy. I would not mis-represent it if I did change the sky. It’s art. Well done!!

This is much much better. Beautiful in fact. The other has too much blue.

Are you talking about using something akin to Topaz AI to sub in a different sky altogether?

I would have thought that was a big no-no on these forums. I’m not meaning to criticise though - just wondering if this is common...

I don’t use Topaz AI so not sure about it’s capability. However, yes, some technique for switching out the sky. Photoshop has sky replacement now and a set of stock photos that I’d think will be ver overused. I often photograph skies and keep them available in Lightroom to use. Mostly I detest gray, featureless clouds. In the picture in question I’d think clouds with more structure would be nice. I do occasionally switch skies. I always note that in my description of the image. I’ve never thought that violated any forum rules.
