I have also noticed new ones coming with builti in hoods? i cant see hoods in above mentioned pictures? correct me if i am wrong?

The current aluminium bodied 50LUXFLE have built-in non detachable hoods.

The current brass bodied 50LUXFLE have clip-on hoods, which in the above two images have not been attached.

The present 50 Summilux ASPH E46 have built-in hoods; whether black aluminum or silvered brass. Special edition E43 versions, like the LHSA or recent brass black versions, have clip on hoods. Other silver brass models may be the pre-ASPH 50 Summilux

This is incorrect. The two finishes are identical in terms of design on the current lens, and the chrome has a  built in hood.

Cheers, if i were to remove hood from Chrome version? would that be possible?

Why would you want to remove it?  The hood retracts to back below the filter threads. With the hood extended i would guess it blocks about 5% of frame lines at close focus, less at infinity focus. It is not a problem, and a factor you will need to get used to for the majority of lenses.

Thanks, Actually i made up my mind later this noon, as i was going for pre-owned ones. i had option to choose between silver and black.

Since i have silver M and after looking at pictures i pressed the trigger!

  • 1 month later...

Wondering if anyone has used the heavier version of Summilux 50mm asph!

I believe its 100 grams heavier because of brass frame.

How does it feel on body compare to the lighter version?

Anything else one can share will be appreciated.

thanks

Tim

i once used one. I have to say, it is heavy. it goes well with the silver m240. but I traded it in for my 50 apo. don;t get me wrong, it is a great lens, but the chrome version is indeed heavy like a brick :D my suggestion is if you really like the look of it, try it on first before u buy it
