LVSBB6 Posted May 3, 2010 Share #1 Posted May 3, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) As the title says, would you replace all your existing R gears with the S system providing the money you can get back is adequate for the "upgrade"? Advertisement Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Hi LVSBB6, Take a look here R owners, would you sell all your gears to get the S?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Sandokan Posted May 3, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 3, 2010 Similar weight and only a bit bigger but 3 times the pixels, leaf shutter possibility and autofocus? Yes, immediately.
jaapv Posted May 3, 2010 Share #3 Posted May 3, 2010 No - the lenses for medium format that I would need would be huge, heavy and prohibitively expensive - even assuming Leica would build them,.
farnz Posted May 3, 2010 Share #4 Posted May 3, 2010 No way. The selection and character of my R lenses is not replicated in the S system. Pete.
leicaman94044 Posted May 3, 2010 Share #5 Posted May 3, 2010 Absolutely not. There are no 400/560/800 mm APO equivalents and as jaapv said they would weigh a ton and cost more than a house were they available. The S2 is an ill-conceived piece of jewelry for those few who have the discretionary funds, and it will die an early death. Lawrence
topoxforddoc Posted May 3, 2010 Share #6 Posted May 3, 2010 No! No! No! Why, oh why would I want to sell my DMRs, 80 lux, 180 cron and 280/4APO. You'd have to be insane or as rich as President Medvedev. Even surgeons don't get paid that sort of money.

rsh Posted May 4, 2010 Share #8 Posted May 4, 2010 No. Why would I sell a camera system I have spent years putting together, tailoring to my needs and my wants.
stunsworth Posted May 4, 2010 Share #9 Posted May 4, 2010 Even surgeons don't get paid that sort of money. I think one of the problems is that surgeons are constantly being asked to make cuts. Hopefully not always too painful.
Overgaard Posted May 4, 2010 Share #10 Posted May 4, 2010 So far the S2 haven't presented lenses that can make the look of the 80/1.4 but has some other distinct qualities making it worth having. It's tempting to do a spring cleaning and get rid of the old and get some new but my experience is that when you sell old gear, you tend to miss it. And if you can't get an amount "worthwhile" the efforts of selling it's often better to just keep it and buy some more and new stuff. The 180mm S lens seem to be a killer, and the 35mm could be a very interesting lens as well. The 70mm is great but not one you will love to bits for a special look. I guess when the 350mm comes that will change the game completely for some.
stuny Posted May 4, 2010 Share #11 Posted May 4, 2010 I'm with a number of you - The lenses I'd want are not available, and the cost, size and weight of them would not be something I could tolerate.

earleygallery Posted May 4, 2010 Share #15 Posted May 4, 2010 As the title says, would you replace all your existing R gears with the S system providing the money you can get back is adequate for the "upgrade"? Literally, then yes i.e. if someone wants to swap my R3 and few lenses for a new S2 kit then yeah, I'd risk it. Am I interested in buying an S2 otherwise? No.
andybarton Posted May 4, 2010 Share #16 Posted May 4, 2010 No. The R and the S are two entirely different types of camera. Even if the S were a "sensible" price, for me, I wouldn't be that interested.
lct Posted May 4, 2010 Share #17 Posted May 4, 2010 Too big body, too big lenses, too big hole in my bank account, too big for me.
mgcd Posted May 5, 2010 Share #18 Posted May 5, 2010 For the "S" system? No. For a Nikon D3 or D700 + a Nikon F6? I'm getting more and more tempted to do just that... Leica's betrayal of long term R users has a cost... Cheers,

Leica's betrayal of long term R users has a cost... Cheers, When I moved to the D700 I felt that here was something that easily outperformed my R8. It looks as though the S2 is in yet another league again.
